World’s Sharpest Katana - (Razor Sharp!)
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 18 ก.ย. 2024
- I tested a cheap katana against a Japanese mat - it failed. So, I decided to make my own, but not just any katana...
I used 11 razor blades, each replaceable, to craft a katana that's not just sharp, but maintainable.
See for yourself as I slice through materials effortlessly, including that mat.

Hello
Where can I get those safety slippers?
11:12 BRO WTF
Just seen a vid on Alec Steele's channel where he used welding rods to make Damascus and they turned into hexagons. could be a good idea for a futuristic looking Damascus sword.
So... Were you really bored and decided to make something ridiculous or were people constantly asking you to do this and you finally got tired of the whining?
It's cool to see you do goofy stuff once in a while instead of making museum quality masterpieces all the time
It's fun!
Def do more!!!!
@@KyleRoyerKnives и получилось на удивление хорошо в плане реза 👍😅
The fact that he put that much work in the memiest sword I've seen in a while just amazes me, like true mastersmith dna, this was just for giggles but was flawlessly constructed, other channels don't put the effort even in their main builds.
You say goofy but Kyle made everything other detail besides the blade correct...... Also he did it with Harbor Freight tools which I think shows how its not the tool but the person
what the un-employed friend does on a Tuesday morning
If you could do this you aren't unemployed as you could definitely make nice money from smithing and making content, but yes, funny joke
Up until recently, i used to be that friend. I miss those times. Now i work at Subway
If thats the level of drive they have then gonna be self employed friend soon
“Unemployed friend in Tuesday morning ” activities
Now we all want to see Kyle make the fanciest katana ever uploaded to youtube.
Yes!!!
Oh yes!!!
HELL YES!!!!!!
lol yeah i pretty much just said the same thing before seeing your post
what do you mean?! he just did!
Somewhere in Japan, a blacksmith that studied all his life to learn traditional katana making just had a stroke.
This video feels so different to the usual yet it somehow resembles him well 😂
Of course it does! Who else in the world would have the patience to carve and refine slots for the disposable blades? 😂
This is proof that even at his least serious, Kyle is far better at making sharp things than I will ever be.
Also, did he deliberately choose the slowest and most infuriating ways of doing things for this vid?
I think it's more showing you can make cool stuff too, everything he used was very easily and relatively cheap to obtain to the normal person as opposed of using large purpose built machines... just my observation
@@MrTbone4112 He used bottom shelf harbor freight power tools on purpose me thinks.
I'm both amazed and offended for some reason. 😂👍
13:21. Thank me now.
"Engineers like to solve problems. If there are no problems handily available, they will create their own problems." - Scott Adams
The fact you pull it off with small/hand versions of shop tools you could get at local store is a nice nod to the enthusiast starting out.
It's nice to see you experimenting with the traditional methods the Japanese swordsmiths would have used historically, very educational
Not traditional method

People taking this seriously. RIP sarcasm
This Is the most elegant MAKESHIFT approach to make an unnecessarily complicated Zombie-Apocalypse katana, made by a guy that usually makes GOD LEVEL LEGENDARY ITEMS FOR NO REASON

💀
Why Kyle should never be left alone! 😂😂
I can't stop laughing at how utterly UNHINGED this whole video is, thank you for the laughs lmao
This... is some cutting-edge content!
Nice pun
Hahaha, I straight up thought that broken sword was the one you had been working on, Kyle Royer is the best!
bro you are awesome! gave me a lil scare at 14:00 I thought you were going to swipe your leg .
me too!
@@KyleRoyerKnives 🤣
Great video! From 13:15 when the watermelon got devoured, it just got more and more unhinged!! Brilliant!!
love the foot 0:14
I bet you do
That's awesome. Especially because you don't even have to sharpen it, just replace the edge!
Awesome idea, man.
Not gonna lie, I love this. It's so silly but done so meticulously I cannot help but admire it.
The fact that this actually cut as well as it did had me.. impressed? confused? idk you tell me
They are razor blades. Why wouldn’t it cut well?
Surprisingly, razor blades are where the "razor sharp" expression come from
@@jamesbizsbecause just because something is sharp doesn't mean it will cut tatami mats. It's got plenty of very slightly misaligned corners that can catch on things, and razor blades are flimsy as hell so it surprised me that they held up for more than one cut without snapping in half. Of course it's going to be sharp, but cutting through tatami mats takes sturdiness too.
Seeing you randomly slash the bush at the end with your new sharp sword is probably the most relatable thing I've ever seen you do on your channel
It cut much better than I thought it would.
Perhaps counter sunken screws from the backside so they don’t protrude. 12:09
thing is, this is actually genius for a zombie-apocalypse situation, where the main weakness of a katana as a melee weapon(vs zombies) is its durability, a fully replaceable blade completely solves that problem. razors like that usually come in oiled-up packs, too, so you would likely find them in still usable condition for several years.
You’ve sparked the idea, now you have to make the most finely crafted katana the worlds seen. Combine your perfectionism and flare for the dramatic in the steel and make a katana an ancient Japanese lord would make you untouchable for.
It's crazy hoe much craftsmanship is still on display in this goof build. A joy to see.
Wow, I never would've guessed making an authentic japanese katana requires so much precision work. Excellent job!
this was the best and quietest 14 minutes I've had in a while
This is just ridiculous...i love it!!!
"Cover me. I need to reload my katana" is both the scariest and silliest thing and thats all i could think of
This is not about making a knife . It’s one man’s quest to video perfection.
This is one of the funniest videos I’ve seen on TH-cam. The fact it’s such a silly idea but you shot the whole video silently when your other vids are on very serious artisanal masterpieces full of your goofy jokes is just the beginning. This is the comedy version of the incredible knives you normally make, 10/10
Kyle Royer, amazing content keep it up
Royer Stanley Blade Katana, $14,000
It looks kinda genius but, it's missing the Fuchi, Kashira, Seppa, and the Saya (scabbard). I would like the tsuba (guard) it's a bit bigger.
Also the Japanese swords always comes with Mekugi (bamboo pin). So they don't use glue to attach it.
Anyway, I think this is more like between a Wakizashi or Kodachi sword. But overall, good work.
My brother, in Christ, he screwed razor blades onto the edge of a steel stick and made a sword around it.
Let’s not sweat the details too much.
man, feel like this would have been a perfect video to uploaded on 1st of april, but still the attention to detail is hilariously good !! keep up the good work
The part with the rayskin was hard to watch
This is hilarious and had me laughing out loud all the way through, BUT it's also a testament to how the right tool is often the one you have. Every goofy fab decision in this video had a lovely result. Thanks for all the great content!
I like how Kylie Royers, fun, half arse projects are still better made than most other TH-cam blade makers
I only realised today I wasn’t subscribed to you, as someone who also works with metal, the sheer time and effort to get the finish on what you do and for it to be technically immaculate is nothing but a stunning achievement of discipline and I almost feel people don’t appreciate that aspect for the way you almost make what is incredibly hard to do to look naturally effortless, regardless of inherent talent, it is consistency over years with unwavering focus.
Sometimes it's fun to watch you building crazy stuff 😂
Always inspiring to see a master smith working at the highest level of the craft with only the best materials.
I can't believe this was never a myth buster's episode.
" can a katana be sharper than a katana made of razor blades?"
The beauty of comedy at it's most pure form... excellent craftstmanship!
This dude is just amazing, that personality and humor yet highly skilled and intelligent. Right down my alley.
You got a box cutter? Yup... That's not a box cutter; This! is a box cutter. :) Excellent work as usual and a creative way to solve a problem that no-one was having, ha ha. Keep up the good work.
Using different brands of razor blades randomly along the edge could have produced some beautuful damascus.
Feels like an old unhinged YT video from back in the day.
Razoro's new Kutana.
now create a REAL katana!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11000 LAYER STEEL
A"real katana" dosent need 11 000 folds just enough to makeit strong, it needs ceremonial ballistic hammering and the special multi layer edge.
@@keganburzynski3936 you don't know your history. there is 11k folded katana that was famous
@@keganburzynski3936 average folds for real katanas is 1k. research it
@@jackmeoffer9334 lmao I never said it never happened? I said a "real katana" dosent need 11000 folds that's not the origin of the katana...or do you not know the history of the katana..lol
@keganburzynski3936 yeah ok oh mighty keyboard samurai 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched this month. Congrats to the editor too.
It's not often that a video gets a like from me within the first 30 seconds and when it does, it's usually because of the humor. lol at the guy holding the form with his foot. the bandage was a nice touch. Edit: Also, alternative title: "World's Most Dangerous Way to Open An Amazon Shipment"
On the one hand, I won't even suggest this departure from the usual format wasn't enjoyable; in fact, I very much liked the cinematography of this unusual (for Kyle) video. I'd even go so far as to claim that I now understand the things Kyle did (does) without needing him to explain every step. On the other hand, I'd very much be lying if I said I didn't miss Kyle's explanation/narration of the process (he has a very soothing voice...).
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!! This video is a testament to the notion of, just because you are the best at something and make amazing art, doesn't mean that you can't be a goofy guy!
I LOVE how you have become more and more comfortable in front of the camera over the years. And I love how much more goofy the edits keep getting! Keep it up, Kyle and Josh!
Barely any form, flailing it, still slices through like everything made of butter lmao Holy Frick!
That was cool to see you come up with something so goofy and then make it work is crazy. You are a true MASTER thanks for the entertainment.
This is unironically a good idea, easy to maintain, and stupid sharp.
I got at least 3 belly laughs out of this one. Excellent editing, too
Im Impressed that those bad razor blades are able to cut so well.
Out of factory they dont have their burr removed and tend to dull super easily
This is genius! It wouldn't hold up in sword on sword combat, but the interchangeable blades are a smart touch!
You and your cool family is one of the reasons I watch your videos!
Imagine if this was the only Kyle Royer video you'd ever seen
Now all your fans will want to see you do a serious katana build. You looked like you had a lot of fun with that, and we would love to see how you’d both honor the traditions of Japanese sword making, while incorporating your own unique style!
It's awesome to see the mind set of the master smith having fun! I have all the tools and could never come up with this..
I love these videos without commentary, its so relaxing and satisfying to watch
I would love to see the reactions of anyone who was told to check out this guy Kyle, he is one of the best blade smiths in the world, and this is the first video they watch😂😂
I sincerely hope everyone watching this video understands that this man is one of the best. This goofy “sword” is just a well I don’t know what it is. Compared to his usual work. This is the equivalent of broom handle that props open the hood of your car.
all I can think is this is a hybrid between a full katana and the swords from Attack on Titan. "just running to the drug store to sharpen my Katana!"
the razors flying around the workspace made me nervous for this whoooole video LOL. Really neat industrial look! This thing is way too dangerous, though, man. 😂 One errant swing and you're cooked.
also, very funny. loved the clap-to-open hood gag.
The mess that is accumulated near the end of video is hilarious😂
An absolute master blacksmith at work, crafting the finest blade, with the greatest of detail and precision, and to top it all standard health & safety Moccasin safety shoes.
Silliest thing I've ever seen done in an exceptional way. 10/10 No notes.
I approached the video a little skeptically.
And very happy that even with such a relaxed video, the quality has not been compromised. 😊
Very entertaining, and nice to see you going so basic. I could not get "Knives Project" out of my head.
@2:16 average Air Force pre-flight inspection
1. Blink three times if you're being held against your will.
2. Thought this was going end up bad.... it's bad... but somehow way better than I expected.
3. Fruity Pebbles off the ground and Hawaiian punch showers, I see you too are a man of culture!
This build was unexpected yet very much appreciated!
Kyle, your athleticism and talent are above and beyond,
Slo-mo ASMR is something I didn't realize I needed in my life. Thank you
What did I just actually watch? I have no idea, Kyle… but I freaking loved it 😂😂😂 the Fruity Pebbles had me dying 💀😂
My boy working with them razors laying around like they don’t cut 😂
As big a joke I'm sure this was, the execution is perfect! I love it dude
What a fun watch! On paper it sounds so dumb (and it still is, kinda) but the finished product looks VERY cool and it was a treat to see you do a little tsuka binding. Thanks, K!
Such an underrated channel. Love your stuff.
I actually really like how you showed how this can be done with less fancy tools!
It is amazing that even for a "goofy" project you manage to keep the quality of the build top-notch.
Amazing work, would love to see a series of a katana same as Excelsior and The Griffin Sword.
Josh doing everything in his SOUL to make these videos as Chaotic as possible.
Honestly this isn't a bad idea. If the blade gets dull you can just replace it. Razor blades are pretty cheap too.
I mean, you did the thing PROPERLY and I still laughed my head off. Well done!
so this is what happens when dad leaves the shop and kyle is left alone.
I love that you busted out all the old hand tools for this lol. Plus thats an eas one to sharpen haha
You know, it is good to see that most people can get away from being stiff.Necked, and have a little fun.I appreciate this video
Holy Cow... this is HOW TO BASIC
This is probably one of your best pieces, Bravo
Lovely to see a craftsman problem solve and execute a project. Unconventional but strangely beautiful,. Great stuff.
This is the best kiwami japan tribute ever.
the editing montage at the end was well worth every second
