Oh Sweet Dino Martino, He was called the King of Cool. By the way, he was singing in Italian, close to Spanish but definitely Italian. Such a beautiful voice And face, I might add. I'm 70 and still have a crush on him!
Omg chocolate wrapped in silk- perfect- I’m 72 and my dad used to sing dean martin songs to me- when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie…I’ve laughed my whole life from that song. There’s plenty more of his- enjoy! He’s the best. Thx 🙆🏻♀️💜
Dino Paul Crocceti, from Steubenville , Ohio. From an Italian family, he didn't learn to speak English until he was 5 and started school. He had many jobs before becoming a singer. ( worked in a steel mill, was a boxer named Kid Crochetti, worked in an illegal casino as a dealer and a crupier) before setting out on a singing career. Met up with Jerry Lewis ( a comedian, both working in the same club), were paired together to firm an act and remained together for over several years. We discovered ANF then made movies together for 16 yrs. until they split and went their separate ways. Dean did many dramatic movies and.westerns. Then met up with Sinatra in Vegas and together with Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop they became the Rat Pack. They ruled in Vegas for many years and did some movies together. Then Dean was offered his own TV variety show. He did that for many years ( it was a great fun show) and when he stopped doing that he had a show that came on ( I want to say maybe monthly) called The Dean Martin Roast. It was alll comedy ( no singing) and Dean was just the host who let comedians of the day roast each other and other celebrities. Both of his shows can be seen on TH-cam videos. Check out these Dean Martin songs and videos: "That's Amore" ( video from a movie with Jerry Lewis) "Volare" ( album. sung in English and Italian) "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime" ( video from london....Sinatra was there too. You will hear him speak off camera) From Dean's tv show , check him out singing with The Mills Brothers..."Up A Lazy River". ( video) Also Dean singing "My Rifle, My Pony and Me" ( video from the movie Rio Bravo) Dean took his casual singing style from Bing Crosby and The Mills Brothers.
Harri, Dean was in a class of his own. I was born in 1962 and as I grew up in the late 1960s into the early 1970s, I listened to my mother's Dean Martin records and watched his weekly variety show on TV. What a musical gift to grow up with Dean! Two recommendations for you that will MELT you -- 1) "If You Were The Only Girl In The World" (from the Dream With Dean album); 2) "You're Breaking My Heart (Mattinata)". Both recording can be easily found here online. Please react to one or both -- you will NOT be disappointed.
I personally agree. His self-deprecating sense humor, I'm 73 now and the schoolgirl crush remains. His daughter Deanna and son Ricci wrote warm biographies of their days growing up. Warmth, good will, humor, and that voice! ❤
@@dmgiliam Perry was good too. I liked him, but no one could compare to Dino for that style of music -- & Dino was a good dancer w-a great sense of ad lib humor which he displayed on his weekly show.
It is not a Mexican-Spanish kind of vibe. It is an Italian musical vibe. Dean Martin not only was a famous singer and movie actor, but he had a television variety show that lasted for close to ten years. He was one of the most famous celebrities in the US.
I agree. Even here in Italy he always had his fans. I'm 51, but I remember me and my family when I was a little child, sittin in the kitchen watchin him on a tv show with Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis Jr. old style music and orchestra of course ❤
And a good dancer. He also had his own weekly series The Dean Martin Show which was a-m-a-z-i-ng -- w-famous people appearing, & he never rehearsed -- he was very much ad lib & very funny, the love of my teenage yrs.
This reminds me of my mom....😢 Before we got a TV, she was always listening to her records....all the 'crooners'.... What a wonderful time to be alive.
Another great reaction, Harri. Thank you for doing a wide variety of generational music so younger viewers can discover and appreciate singers like Dean Martin. I highly recommend you react to more of this talented singer's music.
Dean is one of a kind ... with that rare ornamented vibrato but soft at the same time. It's just genuine that Italian style voice ... and the mandoline along with the the old country accordion accompaniment just whifs you away back in time. The man was truly amazing.
One of the best crooners ever. Effortless and perfectly in tune. Not to mention his charming personality, cool looks and very funny side. To me,the best of all Rat Pack members.
Dean Martin and Elvis both remind me of my deceased Dad so much. Dad could sing both of their songs. Dad was shy, but he sang to my Mom and I...thanks for the memories.
Another great cover of this song was featured on the soundtrack of the TV show “The Sopranos” by no other than Bob Dylan. It is hauntingly beautiful. My Italian friend’s grandfather said that is the way the song was meant to be sung. High praise indeed!
Oooo Dean Martin is smoooooth. As a kid I loved to watch his old movies with Jerry Lewis, but now, I could listen to him croon all day. This my favourite song of his, also him singing Mele Kanikimaka, is one of my fave Christmas songs. Thanks Harri, you're smooth also. ❤
I learned to love Dean Martin when I was young. My grandmother had him playing on her record player often. If it was Dean it was another Rat Pack member on her turntable. I always loved King of the Road.
Dean Martin was a great singer and actor. He and Jerry Lewis were a wonderful comedy team until they broke up in the 1950's. He was of Italian descent and often sang in Italian in some of his songs. He was also a part of Sinatra's rat pack shows in Las Vegas. He sang many different types of songs but was especially good singing romantic songs , not always ballads. You would like His That's Amore.
I have been watching you on TH-cam for awhile and i know you are an Elvis fan; Dean was Elvis's favorite singers. Elvis didn't have black hair he dye it!
Ahh! Yes Dean Martin was maybe my favorite crooner. He was also entertaining on his TV show and as an actor. A “lady killer” for sure, creating many a swoon from his fans.
My mom's favorite so grew up hearing Dean my whole life. Nitbonly is he chocolate and silk, he excudes sex appeal nomally with a martini and cigarette in hand. And that smile was killer. Thanks for acknowledging one of the greatest. Beats Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby for sure.
One of the most beautiful songs ever. I always loved Deans voice. Had a very successful career. Also a successful TV show on NBC mid 60s to mid 70s. I believe I read he was debating leaving , joked I'll stay if I'm paid 50 million. I'm almost certain he did get a 3 yr contract for 50 million.
Deano was quite the lad. He was a member of the "Rat Pack". Hollywood's most talented, bad boys. Being Italian-American, he sang a lot of traditional Italian songs in English. One of his biggest hits is played at Christmas time. "Baby It's Cold Outside".
My mom used to wake us with dean martin music, when we heard his beautiful voice we knew it was time to get up. My dad used to yell his head off. I liked my mom's way better.
Tony Bennet, Frank Sinatrat and Dean Martin were born when Pluto in Gemini. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis turned the world on its side with laughter for ten years, from 1946-1956, with their on- stage comedy duo routines and movies. But Jerry turned out to be a real butthead, and Dean broke up the association after '56 to pursue his own comedy and movies, plus the Dean Martin Show, a tv variety show. I second 'Memories are made of this'.

Dino Crocelli was a suave Italian who didn't speak English until he started school. His voice is pure silk - not enough o's in smooooooooooooth!

Same, but I was 1960. I always thought he was the best of the crooners, miles above Sinatra.
Of all the Crooners of the 40s, 50s and 60s Dean was the best. That includes Frank. His voice and style was the smoothest.
Perry Como was pretty good too.

Definitely! Dino blew Sinatra out of the water with that velvet voice and his style. I could listen to Dean all day long! Couldn't bear Sinatra!

I agree.
And I like Frank Sinatra's music.
Beautiful! Everything he sang seemed effortless. He also had a wonderful personality and sense of humor.

Dean Martin. The king of cool.
Absolutely the best, well deserved title King of Cool.
Also give "Memories Are Made of This" a listen.
my all time favorite, not only could he sing he was the coolest guy on the planet

Oh Harri, love this song. In the 60,s. I had such a crush on dean.💕💕. He was so gorgeous & could sing like a songbird.
From that era of the “crooners” he is my favorite. Since I was a kid if his song was playing I would take notice.
That voice and those words in Italian are pure ecstasy. Loved your reaction!
One of the greats. Other songs of Dean Martin to listen to include "Memories are Made of This" and "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime".
Another great reaction, Harri.

Italian strings, after all Dean was an Italian American crooner, one of the best. 😊
Wow now this is music❤❤❤❤❤😊
There's a good movie of the same name that used this on the sound track.
I love that film, with David Duchovny and Minnie Driver.
He was also gorgeously handsome and funny.
Definitely my favorite crooner. A real charmer in every way.
That is a mandolin and he was speaking Italian, his first language. Italian, the romance language, highlighted here in this song.
Uncle Dean!!!! Powder Your Face With Sunshine ☀️ I have all the Rat Pack recordings at The Sands in the early ‘60’s…CLASS
Love this song. In 1967 there was an Italian restaurant that always played this song.

I love this guy for me personally for me best singer in the Rat Pack the others were good but he was fantastic very romantic singer
LOVED that Harri!!
😍🤩
Smokey Robinsons inspiration. He said "Dino's voice was like velvet. "
He was also Elvis Presley's vocal inspiration.
You should watch the movie of the same name with Minnie Driver and David Duchovny. It's really sweet.
A tear jerker.
Great memories ! Dean such talent ! Cheers !
Love this so much. There's a movie called the same, tragic and funny at the same time.
It does my heart good to see you enjoy this song so much. Thank you.
Harri At that time just about all music was recorded for radio and it was they that determined the length of a piece. I have always liked Dean Martin.
They say he was known as "The King of Cool". Born in Steubenville, Ohio.
He is one of the few who could sing without any instruments at all.
I learned to love Dean Martin when I was young. My grandmother had him playing on her record player often. If it was Dean it was another Rat Pack member on her turntable. I always loved King of the Road.
Love your reactions, Harri! Thanks! 🤗
He was an actor and singer ❤
& a good dancer

It was actually Elvis who gave him the label King of Cool
I absolutely love this song. I like most of his songs actually. Thanks Blue Eyed Kansan and Harri.
I have been watching you on TH-cam for awhile and i know you are an Elvis fan; Dean was Elvis's favorite singers. Elvis didn't have black hair he dye it!
He also sang a song called "Shutters and Boards" that was written by Audie Murphy, arguably the most decorated soldier in US military history...
I remember that. Audie was also a good actor, after he returned from active duty.
My mom played his records all the time, on the big wooden stereo cabinet/ tv/ bar. :)
He started in movies and TV as a comedy team with Jerry Lewis.
He was a popular singer first before he did movies with Jerry Lewis
@@careyplaylist Yes, I know.

Liked Dean Martin. As a kid we would watch his variety tv show wondering how plastered he would be that episode 😂
Apparently the "drinking" thing was a myth. He only acted as if he was "plastered".

I love your show but sometimes your lack of knowledge amazes me
Im old and you are young so that explains it
Deano was singer before he became a hammish actor
Matt Helm comes to mind
His talking voice was melodic so singing was an easy transition
Sad how he ended up
Losing his son was the final straw
Every song his sang was a treasure
Engelbert Humberdink
