To little honor is given to the gem who co-wrote this movie and directed it. She even plays in it. Her name is Bonnie Hunt and she is the one playing the sister. I think she is a comedic genius and this movie was very well written and directed.

Several of her family members have small roles in the film as well. The boy who takes care of the dog is her nephew (How do I look? Tall). I actually met her once and like a dorky fan I mentioned how much I loved this movie. She was super kind and down to earth.

My former boss is a cardiologist and his wife is a nurse practitioner specialized in heart transplant.
In some cases she needs to get the heart from a donor within 6 hours then lock it into a case with ice
and fly back via a helicopter to a surgery operating room full of surgeons. When one family's loss and
selflessness can help to save another person's life, she says, that's the meaning of her job.

Something my sisters and I love about this movie is all the somewhat random bits of humor that are found in everyday life. It's like what you were saying about side characters. One of my favorite moments is when Bob gets his truck back from the valet driver when he makes his getaway from the disastrous blind date, he has to move the seat way back because the valet driver was so much shorter. Such a simple moment that isn't important to the story at all, but it gives the movie a sense of reality because we've all experienced the need to adjust the seat in the car after someone else drove it.

Y’all should watch David Duchovny in this movie called “House of D”. He wrote it, directed it and played a roll as well. His ex wife had a smaller part as well. It also stars the late Robin Williams and the late Anton Yelchin and Robin’s real daughter Zelda. It’s one of my favorites and really made me become a huge fan of Anton, his performance was phenomenal.

So funny story: back when I was about 5-6 in kindergarten my mom actually rented this movie back when it was first released like 2001 from Blockbusters, it was one of my earliest recollections of BB. Fast forward to 2020 pandemic 20 years later this movie pops back up as a recommendation of all days “Christmas” fun little blast from the past I got to rewatch with my mom. ❤

I always wanted you to see this movie, one of my favorite Rom-coms. Now you have to watch my favorite - It Happened One Night (1934). Directed by Frank Capra who also directed It's A Wonderful Life. Oh and watch Mr Deeds Goes to Town too.

I’ll admit this is a film I'm not overly fond of. My mom really likes it a lot though. One moment I do get a big kick out of is when Jim Belushi’s character jumps to the wrong conclusion about Bob being married, and how he gets protective and offers to beat Bob up. And after he hears the line, “Grace has Bob's dead wife's heart!” upon processing the rather odd statement how he calms down and says, “He's not married? Huh. Ok.” That part I do like.

My wife and I saw this movie in the theater. We walked out in complete agreement that David Duchovny and Minnie Driver were good, but they both received an absolute masterclass in acting from Carroll O’Connor, Robert Loggia, Eddie Jones, and William Bronder.

You´re right about the importance of side characters in these kind of movies. That´s what makes "When Harry Met Sally", "Sleepless in Seattle" etc. so good.

This brings back memories. Writer/director/actress Bonnie Hunt used to talk about this movie on her talk show. She is also a former nurse. Carroll O'Connor, the grandfather, played Archie Bunker on the TV show All In The Family for 9 years. The guy with the hair transplant, Don Lake, was Bonnie's sidekick/comedic partner on her talk show. I remember him from Canadian TV commercials.

I’ve re-watched this reaction three times now. I love this movie and love watching you fall in love with it, too! If you like behind-the-scenes stuff, I highly recommend getting the DVD and watching it with the commentary. Bonnie Hunt, who plays the sister, was one of the writers and she tells a lotta fun stories!

Glad you guys enjoyed this so much. Such a great "date night" movie. Minnie Driver is a fabulous actress. If you liked this, try watching "The Vow" with Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams. A very similar type of movie - maybe more drama than comedy, but it's based on a true story and you'll fall in love with both characters. Love watching your reviews!

The leading man is David Duchovny, also seen in the comedies "Evolution" and "Zoolander".
The best friend is Bonnie Hunt(who alsodirected the movie!), well-known for her voice work in films like "Momsters, Inc.", "Cars", and "Zootopia".
This film was a beautiful finale to yhe career of Carroll O'Connor(Grandpa Marty).
Oh, ad the Sinatra song you were thinking of was "Fly Me To The Moon".

Thank you for watching one of more favorite movies. It’s a hidden gem for sure. This movie takes place in Chicago and another fun fact is that Bonnie Hunt (she plays Megan) actually wrote and directed this film. A similar movie I think you girls would enjoy is “A Stranger’s Heart” it’s a Hallmark movie made in 2007.
