- Installation and operation of a generator enclosure for Honda eu2000i. It is a work in progress, and we plan on adding more vents, particularity to the bottom of the cabinet. Maybe a second fan as well. Lots of vents is the key - otherwise you can blow your self up, quite literally, or blow up the generator by overheating it.
I also have ordered fiberglass pipe insulated (rated to 1000 DEGF) to cut down on radiant heat from the exhaust pipe

StoveTop FireStop - note this is NOT an approved installation, as these are designed to extinguish stove fires. But I found them on eBay for cheap and why not?

I may add fiberglass duct insulation (stiff) as well to the walls to deaden sound.
I am going back tomorrow to cut two 2.5" holes in the bottom and then rivet chicken wire over them for increased venting - and also to drain any water that might get in. Temperature leveled out at 115 DEGF on a 88 DEGF day. One problem is that the hot air exhausted from the left vent is sucked into the right vent. I may put a baffle behind the box to help reduce this.
Works great so far. With the additional holes in the bottom and the fiberglass pipe insulation on the exhaust pipe, the inside temperature is no more than 5-10 degrees more than ambient when running. Easy to use and quiet, too. Handy when you are loading groceries in the camper on a hot day. Just start the generator before you go into the grocery store and run the A/C (Note: Turn OFF all the breakers except the A/C and make sure the refrigerator is set to gas and the hot water heater is off). The eu2000i will run the A/C - just barely - and nothing else. Leave "ecothrottle" to "off" and set the A/C fan to high.
We've been on the road for three months now, but have only used the generator a handful of times, so far. It is cold in the Adirondacks!
Now, when we go to Florida, that might be a different story!
@ Robert Bell, where were you camping at in the Adirondacks ? I am originally from Saranac Lake, about 12 minutes west of Lake Placid, deep in the heart of the Adirondacks..
@@kevinswinyer3176 Sorry to have missed you! We were camped for a while at the Lake Placid fire house! Met some nice folks from Montauk. Boy did they party!
