I think it's smart standing up against embargos. More content creators should do it because it's very anti consumer and frankly stupid.
It makes no sense. Imagine being the shoe company that talks about future shoes. And let's TH-camrs talk about it. It would get way more exposure. Way more hype. Which would end up putting it in front of more eyes. More wallets.
I think there's two very rational reasons for embargoes. (1) it annoys consumers to see images of a shoe update when they just purchased a shoe (the comments for my novablast and Nimbus reels are full of them, even though the content came off embargo well over a year after the prior novablast release)
(2) without an embargo, the shoe is anticlimactic when it does release. like, we've been seeing images of the SC Elite 4 for like 8 months now. and it still doesn't come out for a few more months. I feel like there's a lot of lost momentum.
That being said, a lot of information needs to be conveyed to buyers. and some media doesn't have the ready access that I do, such as the international media outlets that need to get footage now while they can. I think in that situation, I'd be much more tolerant of embargoes.
Overall, I actually do like embargoes. I like it when a shoe is secret. but the embargo can't be too long. otherwise it's just annoying.
I totally agree with you @bryliang. At the end of the day, we’re just talking about shoes here, so it’s not that deep. Embargoes seem to be self-important on the part of brands (and some social media runners, not Kofuzi). Thanks for showing the content you can show, Kofuzi, my favorite running TH-camr!
You only know about these embargoes because content creators share them, otherwise you wouldn't have clue anyways. Not sure what there is to stand up against?

Running is fast becoming like cycling and golf, where you just always see something you want to buy. Gone are the days when you were with 1 pair of running shoes, shorts and shirts. Everything just looks so good.

I was on the fence about sharing it, but since Kara specifically brought it up that I had said footage, I felt like it was time to release it
Also, I was not the only one who captured it. I’ve seen reels from people who had vantage points from the balcony.
It provided wonderful material for their podcast and I think handing it off to Kara (“from my friend Mike Ko” she said) was respectful and also hilarious-💯their vibe.

Seems weird to ask someone who's job it is to share their opinion and experience on things to not share their opinion or experience on things. Also a shame that shoes are losing style by the minute, hopefully some brands will see that form doesn't have to suffer for function
I see it as the brands are super excited to share what they've been working on. I don't begrudge them for having embargoes. but it's tough for me because I don't like to sit on secrets

My number one recommendation for running stores is purchasing a treadmill. I see many don't have one and the only way to know if a shoe is good is to run in it, ideally outside for several KMs and several times, but second best is the treadmill. Walking a few steps back and forth in the store doesn't tell you shit.
We had one at the store I work at and got rid of it. Liability issues - unsupervised kids flying off the back of a treadmill is a bad thing!

I think embargoes are good up to a point. companies want to keep things under wraps, so any emergency last second tweaks can be made, and it's always interesting to have your feed be only one thing for a few days. being too strict on the agreements is never any fun though. being able to show us 50x50 pixels of a shoe that is just outstanding shouldn't be off limits 🤣

I think someone already leaked/showed what ON had at the booth, so I wonder if they’ll get in any sort of trouble if ON’s shoes are in embargo
It seems like leaks frequently come from either wear testers, retailers, or I guess even employees. Regardless, it’s someone with access, and leaking is a pretty easy way to lose that access.

I have long stated that Adidas forfeited the right to correct the American pronunciation of the brand name when they collaborated with Run DMC on the song, “My Adidas” back in 1986
