    Hi Team GCN! I love both the GCN Show and GCN Tech Show and look forward to new episodes every week. I was wondering if you know how many of the viewers view both shows and how many are "unique"? I've noticed that the two shows cover kind of the same topics (in the Hot Tech and Cycling Shorts). If you watch both shows you kind of get the same items twice. Of course, if the viewers group is completely different this doesn't matter. However, if there are many like me, that watch them both you might consider to not cover the same news twice.

      I ride in a place that hits 36C and 80%+ humidity in the summer. Not a lot of shade. Road or gravel, 60-180 minutes. You have to stuff up pretty badly to overheat. I’m talking about truly overheating, not free sweating.
      Dress for the heat. Padded shorts but everything else mesh and breathable. Short sleeves or no sleeves. Light on the sunscreen… it traps heat.
      Push hydration… like a litre of low sugar fluids an hour. Insulated bottles… or freeze one bottle for enjoying mid distance. Don’t forget electrolytes. A bladder pack and drinking tube helps take in fluids incrementally.
      Pace yourself and you’ll be fine.

    GCN promoting industry fluff hype - as usual. Try to be original - do not sell your soul for a buck. Wide tyres are better, waxing the chain is better ----get back to the real world.

    • @paulgrimshaw8334
      @paulgrimshaw8334 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have to say that both are true, though for different reasons. Wide tires are smoother running, which improves the ride experience and speed over rougher roads. Such roads are more the norm than the exception.
      Waxing chains is hands-down a winner. It’s less expensive, lasts longer, and more economical due to reduced chain wear. I’m on my 10th chain waxing on a 500g bag of wax that cost less than $50. I’ll probably get 15 chain waxing out of the bag. My chains haven’t recorded any wear… none… according to my chain checker. And I’m not having to spend up to 20 minutes clearing my chains of road grit.
      Don’t try it for yourself. I want the demand for chain wax to be low to keep prices low and supply high.

    So many of your recommendations are for the top 5% of money spenders and not for the "normal" amateur cyclist (i.e.: Temperature sensors for 250 dollars and custom made shoes/insoles!!!)

    • @lovemesomedetail
      @lovemesomedetail 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm with you on the temperature sensors; although these things can be mentioned and everybody is free to chose if to spend money on that, it surely is quite annoying for most viewers to watch all that stuff so regularly... Main content should be for majority of viewers!
      With the insoles I disagree though, cause not every insole is really custom made for hundreds of dollars, the main takeaway is that you should maybe look into getting different insoles for your feet, cause everyone is so different. There are good priced ones you can cut into shape and add inserts to different regions to further shape it to match the feet. And that really is worth investing... Money spent on a decent insole is much more reasonable than exchanging your alloy handlebars to some carbon ones for example or buying expensive aero jerseys when they actually dont make you more comfy and efficient

      @firehazard1792 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      lol, out of all the snake oil the bike industry hucks, you choose the one thing that is a legit fundamental.
      Like bikefits don't even need to be professionally done. It is just matching frame, stem, crank, seatpost, etc. in way that fits your body. Not everyone of the same height has the same proportions so ready-made sizing can only do so much. If you only do shorter rides or have the most average body around then you can skip this step, but if you do many long rides, you owe it to yourself to have your bike fitted to you. You can do it yourself with some studying.
      Next you will say putting tires on your bike is "snakeoil."

    everybody says "get a bike fit" - and yes, when you have a bike fitter who really knows his staff it's a good thing. But their is the problem: there are so many people doing bike fitting who blindly follow either a dogma or a software - which both does not help in many cases. Best example is an article in a big German cycling magazine some years ago where they presented the same rider with the same bike to different bike fitters and most of them changed his position massively... but some in one direction and some in the exact opposite direction, some didn't do significant changes at all. That does not give much confidence that any bike fitter will get me better on my bike than the position I find in almost 40 years of cycling. I don't want to fly to Australia (from Germany...) to Neill Stanbury and I really don't trust a bike fitter in my area. Sad but true...

      Yeah, I'm not entirely sure about the value. If I have no pains, problems etc. I only wonder in terms of "you could be getting extra performance if you did this" I suspect a lot of the industry is around people that barely end up riding their bikes, don't/don't know how to make minor adjustments themselves (saddle, cleats, levers etc).

    Wider tires make most sense with wide inner rims. A 28mm tire on 25mm inner rim will be roughly 32mm wide and ride a lot smoother and just as fast compared to the same tire on a 15c old style alloy rim. Where it will sit only 26mm wide, measured.
    But even if you don't want to or can't (rim brake bike) run a new wide rim, it makes sense to spend the money on two wider tires nonetheless. Just not as dramatic of an impact.

    9:17 if only Curve could stop their bread-and-butter road bikes breaking: I've seen 3 with cracks around their seat tube at the BB in my workshop in the last couple of years, and heard tales of a dozen more. Doesn't really inspire confidence in a new model of bike that's designed to ride on corrugations all day, duzzit? Perhaps that's why you shouldn't offshore your production to a factory where you don't have direct oversight of the production process, hey? Conor's so tall when he rode off on the Titanosaur bike IT ACTUALLY LOOKED NORMAL! I know it's carbon wheels and all, but does he have to change his fitness due to the new circumference of the 36" wheels? That's a lot of rubber for those tires. I can't wait to see how he rides on those new tires on a separate video soon. Have fun and be safe, Conor!

      Science suggests that the bigger heavier wheels take more energy to get moving. However once in motion they have greater inertia and will keep their speed better than a 700c or 29" wheel (assuming that the aero drag and rolling resistance characteristics are identical or negligible). You would only need a short burst of higher power to get them started, something larger riders are naturally more capable of.

    This "really large" grave bike from Curve make it where it's only a matter of time where you start seeing full-suspension gravel bikes. Essentially we're going to get drop bar XC bikes soon. Not that it's a bad thing, but the comfort components is definitely there. We already see it a little bit with front-sus and suspension seatposts, but for "extreme" cross-country backpacking....full-sus gravel bikes will come.

    Interesting how much the opinion on waxing chains have changed since not having muc-off as a sponsor. It was actually muc-off that convinced me to go to waxing 6 years ago as their 'lube' attracted so much dirt and grit that I knew there had to be a better solution. As for more expensive I paid about $5 canadian for 6+ years of wax from the grocery store along with a $15 Amazon slow cooker I've more than broken even. I've changed the wax completely once and still have enough for another change so I'm well ahead on costs considering I've been waxing chains for my 3 road bikes, my fat bike, my gravel bike as well as the bike on my smart trainer. I also appreciate that cleaning the bike takes less than 1/4 the time and I can touch and replace my chain without getting any grease or oil on my hands or anything else

    I'm interested in how the smart trainers can increase the resistance to simulate climbing hills....do you need to be on a direct drive trainer or can a wheel on trainer work.

    • @trepidati0n533
      @trepidati0n533 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Electromagnetic Resistance. ELI5: Magnets attract metal things. The stronger the magnet the stronger the attraction. You can make an "electric magnet" by pass a current through a coil of wire. Since using electricity to make the magnet, you can use electronics to control them. So if the program says you are going up a hill, it adds more current to the coil of wire to make it harder.
      Of, course it is a bit more complicated than that.....but that is the crux of it.
