      I got the Plintervals t-shirt!! Plini and Aaron opening for Animals as Leaders...jeeeeeeeezus what an amazing show.
      Even better, Aaron played 2nd guitar during Plini's set, then Plini played 2nd for Aaron. It was all amazing, but 'Libra' kinda stole the show for me.

    Also, another song that will blow your mind is by a band called Ne Obliviscaris with their song 'and plague flowers the kaleidoscope'
    The song was studied at Sydney conseveratorium of music. The song was introduced to the curriculum by Professor Matthew Hindson (classical composer) the song was introduced as a exemplar in structure, mixing timbres, meters, modes, how to approach virtuosity, sound and noise, extended performance and techniques.

    I absolutely love the subtle things they've weaved in and out of this track. Like no one landing on the 1 at 4:17 except for the crash cymbal, then everyone nailing that "and" of 1 immediate after it. You know you're listening to a master when the tiniest detail like that earns the rewind to be listened to again and again.

    Nice one. Seen Plini twice live, they (or he) are the sort of band that look like they are just happy to be playing in front of an audience, best reaction to an instrumental band I have seen. Couple of others for you to look up - Gojira - Flying Whales (french Eco Metal about astral projection and saving the planet) and Animals as Leaders - Arithmophobia (complex technical Djent). Edit - and another two epics are Periphery - Reptile (Modern progressive metal, long track though with many styles) and Haken - Cockroach King.

    • @Isaiah_McIntosh
      @Isaiah_McIntosh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No, its prog metal. It's a different lineage. Things like mars volta would be more prog rock. The labels aren't super important or anything but when folks go looking for prog rock and hear other bands in line with plini and have their expectations not line up with the music they tend to get really annoying in the comments.

  • @lucasgeiser8036
    @lucasgeiser8036 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very interesting comparsion about the voicing thing (and the reverence to Tool). I think this is also a thing what makes prog stuff so intensive and interisting. Same with Danny Carey tuning his drums in a way it fits the d-tuning of the guitar and bass.
    The overall sound at the beginning of this song reminded me of Haken, a prog metal band. Give it a listen if you want to. Your opinion on the song "Cockroach King" would be very interesting (I recommend audio version for the solos ;) )

    When you said the word INTERVALS around the 5minute mark, i thought you were gonna do a comparison to Aaron Marshall of the band Intervals, another prog rock instrumental guitarist. Which, by the way I think you should do a reaction video to one of his songs, By Far and Away from the album The Way Forward!
    For me, Intervals provides that nice medium level inbetween the good songwriting of Plini and the groovy poppy jams of Polyphia.

    This might be too harsh for some viewers but check out Meshuggah - clockworks. If you enjoyed dissecting tool you'll definitely enjoy dissecting Meshuggah

    I love that you mentioned sax. One of my favorite guitarists of old is Brett Garsed. He is also an Australian solo guitarist but he is known for jazz rock fusion. He attributes his playing and composition advancement to listening to saxophone players structure of phrasing. You should check him out. I think current rock/prog has progressed to heavily emphasize polyrhythms and you’ll find less of that in Brett’s work, but it’s stellar nevertheless. I’d give Flight or Fight a check.

      Oooooo man do I love Brett Garsed!!! I'll find one to do though I know it will be genius already :)

      @@KeyOfGeebz Well since you are already familiar with him, I think you should possibly just react to the other request I had for Arch Echo below. If for nothing else, I think you'd be extremely appreciative of their synchronization between their lead guitarist and they keys player.

    ahhh you picked the same favorite PLINI track as me. Cascade.
    In that case I'ma recommend you look at Animals As Leaders. It doesn't really matter what track you pick, but if you need a suggestion, maybe the very first is a good place to start: Tempting TIme.

    Please give Tesseract a listen! They are doing a live cinematic show on the 12th, if you end up liking their music!
    Edit: and listen to the lead singers feature song a dream in static. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL vocals.

    Periphery's Lune would be a good one for you! Shows a little different side of their talent, very ambient and well composed. Another good one is 22 faces, has a very nice groove and great breakdown. Very talented band! Neo Seoul from After the Burial also well done.

    First vid I've seen by you and I felt like I enjoyed you enough to like and drop this comment.
    Aside from your insight into the music, I really enjoyed seeing your facial reactions to certain musical feels more than anything.
    PS: Totally bitchin, we aged together.
