A 50+ minute battle?? Yeesh. That alone is epic. No clear cut winner and anyone talking about either band with an easy W is obviously biased. Gotta admit, I came into this one expecting to hand the quick win to Jackson, but Dega is very impressive. So much cleaner and good improvements.

Dega has improved vastly over time but I still prefer the more polished sound of the Boom to be honest. (As a former Boomer, I will admit defeat when we've been bested.)
Dega's trumpets are piercing through the entire stadium. They need to join a football conference in order to get a feel of what other bands do in order to get a well rounded seasoned sound. Performing in a game setting will help a lot. They sound great but imagine how they'll sound once they get a football team and scheduled performances.

Dega's trumpets pierced through at certain times and on certain parts of songs... The difference is their trumpets projected better here... Dega had a number of tempo issues. Overall, this was a juicy battle.

OH MY, this was surprising. This is the Dega that EVERYBODY been waiting on. They’ve come a long way from that 2014 “Southern lil brother” phase. The Boom was the Boom 🤷🏾♂️. Overall, great battle……probably the best heavy weight battle thus far this season
This is an underrated comment… and I said as such earlier this season. Dega came out of nowhere with momentum years ago, but never fulfilled what I thought they could be. They finally arrived this past weekend… gotta give it up where it’s due. 💪🏾

And to make matters worst, the majority of their arrangements, the ones that didn’t come from from SU, were just a series of whole and half notes with the occasional quarter note mixed in. They sounded like a overpowered high school band 🤷🏾♂️. But now, they’ve had time to mature the program and sound amazing.

Dega sound so damn good. I BEEN saying yall need to put some respect of they name. Dega came to this battle prepared. Those arrangements of the Show and Swoop spoke volumes to me, the fact Dega's "Oh No" was a full song compared to a call out gave them a edge imo. This was one of the best battles ive seen in awhile, i give the w to Dega. Shouldn't underestimate your opponent, JSU should have took them seriously like this was the boombox classic.
Damn Dega sounds good! They improved a lot in the sound quality department. Phrasing still need a little tweaking but they definitely made steps in the right direction overall. Wow this was a great battle, being a true JSU fan though, I have to give much credit to that 43:08 mark when Talladega did JSU rendition of the infamous “The Show” that was a good combat selection, and those drumajor was getting it 👏🏾 I can tell had practice, the cohesiveness of being together! This annual BOTB challenge needs an invitation, to Dega's band, each year... This was way more a structural and entertaining battle, than any other battle that season... Though Dega's band director is a SU-Juke alum... M. Bonds, did not come with gimmicks... This was a clean and respectful battle... Dega impressed me, within the style they delivered.

Talladega has come a long way. Great power and a lot more cleaner. I still feel like on some songs they fade off on the less powerful parts, which is still a little high schoolish to me but I feel like they still executed very well and get the W in my book. As a jsu fan till the day I die, there has to be some serious upper brass recruitment. Dega’s upper brass smacked them all day especially the trumpets. Some of the songs jsu plays have WOW potential but lack the impact because of the upper brass mainly trumpets. Gotta offset those btones because they are on steroids!!
And I want to be clear jsu still has the better overall band but dega really showed up with energy and purpose so that’s why I give them the W. That song jsu plays at around 16:20 is major heat!!

First off…. Hats off to Dega. I admit I was down on them (and said as such) earlier this season…. But obviously their kids and directors read and take note (unlike my school smh)… and came back right. Although there was some minor intonation problems with the trombones, they corrected it for the most part as the battle wore on. Dega came with a better book to match J-State. Overall well played and good job. ✊🏾
J-State did J-State things… first week of October and they’re already in endgame form. From the prior weeks, I thought Jackson might have a little issue with Southern, but not that is not the case. Those kids play with force, quality sound, and a ton of heart.
This is one of the best battles I’ve seen in quite some time, and it’s surprising one end of it was contributed by Talladega. Good job to both programs. The crowd and people who see this on TH-cam are the winners of this one…. 💪🏾🏆

Great Battle. Dega improved a lot or just stepped up from the 2019 whoopin. Props to the Boom for going toe to toe with a band that’s built for this. Most bands would’ve ran out of songs. I was entertained by both bands. It depends on what you like.

I remember when Dega started; they were SLAW (Sorry, Loud And Wrong). My, my, my, how far they've come 👏. Good performance from both sides.
Tbh they sounded great from the beginning, but it seems like they finally went from tryna only be loud to cleaning it up, ALOT. And still be louder than jsu, maybe su. It’s truly an amazing program, maybe other alabama school will get back to they feet (stillman, ect)

Man! Man! Man! Let starr by saying i marched in the band at JSU 87 crab. You dont get many 50 min battles now days and when you do they become epic. After reading some of the comments and seeing some of the youtube personalities its funny how many different people say who won. Like some i expected Talladega to give me what they mormally give. I was pleasantly surprised! Both band did an outstanding job. If you listen to both band what you got was a difference in sound. I judge the battle in servarl ways. One was round for round and i was surprised i got a lot of ties. Very few rounds were stand outs that ga e me a score of 4 to 4. I went back and looked at the battle what song follow the next i still got 4 to 4. Lastly i look at the battle what i liked and technically and i was surprised to see that was also 4 to 4. I think this boil down to what band and sound you liked and if you like what song and arrangement. The horns for Talladega rocked. That was the onky over all thing that was more than a tie. Talladega had the number.it was a hell of a battle. If thus happen next year. I think no. I know i will be their to see this. This was better than the boombox classic.

Jsu sounded great and the tuba line is straight beast mode the best this year but Talladega took the W they grooved on that ass after at song 3 they just took over and waxed the whole band was grooving. I love the head drum major he a beast he nasty with it. I found myself looking at the DM routines more than the girls them boys danced they ass off. Them boys demand your attention. Jsu that was your warm up for Boombox Classic at the end of the month Dega is baby jukebox and y'all to really being y'all changed your style to ours. Dam dega came with it they sounded great.

I speak the truth always no hateration here. The band was clicking on all cylinders here. They were very entertaining. Loved every minute of it. Mad respect. Power is great but it don't make you the best but when a squad make you want to dance with them they've done their job. Song selection is key in a battle and them babies were grooving. Started off on song 3.

I will never understand why people think screaming all the time is how the arrangements are supposed to sound. That's not balance. Especially when you're hitting bad notes amd can't control it. SU does the same thing, but they have more trumpets which masks the inconsistencies
