After 8 years of people complaining about JSU trumpets I don’t think they care. They continue to produce nice clear sound/ their woodwind section is one of the best so why cover that up/ produce some of the best battles and it’s always JSU/SU SU/JSU clearly it’s not broke to them. At this point it is what it is.
If they trumpets start overpowering their woodwinds it will definitely takeaway that classical sharp clean sound woodwinds have It blends so well together. And I ain't saying no names but another band is definitely incorporating woodwinds more in their arrangements... and they should just go back to the old formula cuz it ain't it.
I feel like the trumpets get drowned out a bit by the rest of the band but if you hear them in person they do have a nice sound. Being so powerful on the low end hurts trumpets and woodwinds but I still love their sound as a whole

For the longest, Dega was like a bad trend that wouldn't go away. This the FIRST time I've EVER heard them hold their own with a top tier band. What stands out to me is their POWER. I love their trumpets. THAT BEING SAID...they still JSU lil cousin right now. JSU's combo of power, Tubas and arrangements put them out of Dega's reach.
Talladega didn’t plan to respond to anything JSU played… the reason they played a marching tune in the 2nd round was to take over and JSU ended up responding to Dega the rest of the battle
I try to tell people over and over. JSU is more polished band than Dega when it comes to their sound. Arrangements, phrasing, control, and execution is something Dega has to work on.
Great reaction my G. This was a close battle and Dega sounds so much better but like you I give JSU the edge because of their polished sound and arrangements. People get on JSU for their lack of screaming trumpets but it is done so that the woodwinds can shine and make them sound as clean as they do. Woodwinds add color and clarity to music. This is the reason they have such a big woodwind section every year.
Agree. However he feels jsu trumpets are weak. I can clearly hear the trumpets playing blended notes. Jsu trumpets is done with screaming until someone comes along and give jsu trumpets a reason to scream. After 2013 jsu started to move away from screaming trumpets to allow the wood winds to be heard. This is why now u see a lot of comments on jsu woodwinds being loud and heard across the 50. Theres no way on earth that woodwinds are louder than trumpets. Its not even possible. Jsu doesn't allow its trumpets to be aggressive. Su trumpets never stops screaming as SU arranges 90% of its music around the trumpets. Jsu trumpets aren't competing with su or dega bcuz the bd arranges music to allow woodwinds which gives jsu a more distinct musical sound. This further differentiate jsu from su. Dega on the other hand shares jsu and su sound minus the musical piece. Alcorn does the same it just doesn't have the same numbers as dega. By the way alcorn and dega gave su the business before. Alcorn has given jsu the business before as well.

I would’ve done the same. Dega sounds great. Much better than previous years! But they absolutely have to work on their arrangements, phrasing, control, and execution. They’re getting there. Bands like JSU and SU have figured out their sound and Dega has to do the same. If you close you eyes and listen throughout the battle you hear a clear difference in the bands in those areas I mentioned.

I don’t even know if KB Recognized Swoop Which Is One JSU Signature Songs @ 39:01! Dega arrangement was ok they executed it well but it would have been nice if JSU would have played it back!
This is the best battle of the season so far. Dega finally cleaned the sound up. It's still not there but night and day compared to years ago. JSU took this though. They are just more polished and the arrangements compliment the instrumentation better. Dega had stronger upper brass but not as clean. Dega put up a good fight though.
As hard as this is for me to admit as JSU fan…. It Was a tie through beginning and middle but I have to give dega the edge at the end… they seemed to have the momentum… they must have a new arranger because they’re writing to degas strengths… I think JSU underestimated dega… but if there’s gonna be a crank fest JSU will be ready.

It just seems everyone has their own opinion and we as people can either do two things : agree or disagree 🤷🏽♂️. Brotha here had his own valid opinion. We have our own. At the end of the day this battle was the highlight of the season! Though some of us in the band head community don’t agree that some songs were allJSU. some ,like myself, can say that jsu had some songs, but sadly talladega has really stepped up a notch. this is the day that talladega got it’s name more deep into the band head minds. That’s a solid W for me tbh💪🏾
One of the reasons J5 stopped dancing while the band was in the stands in the early 2000s was because that's the time for the JSettes to shine. Dega DMs should give the same consideration to their girls.

Both bands work very hard. It's nice to see that Dega is much-improved, they sound good. I agree with you that Dega pulled from another band's playbook, and sometimes doing too much. (And loud is not always the best quality).
Stop playing with DA BOOM! Dega was better than they’ve been in the past and they tried to get their lick back from the last crankfest when DA BOOM slapped the taste out they mouth with “MAKE NO SENSE”. Unfortunately Dega still got work to do to catch DA BOOM.

Dega has a distinct sound and I'm diggin' it. Kiddos to their trumpets too, last video I thought they sound like trash but this one was much much much improved.. I think they also suffer from the massive low brass section just like Jackson. If you hold over or are the least bit out of sync the low brass will drown you out and make it sound muddy but this was excellent by both bands considering their instrumentation.. Bad part is you have to keep that instrumentation because that's where the unique sound comes from.. dega's mellos straight fire 🔥
Dega got some screamers on Trumpets something that JSU just haven't had fire a while. Let's not sleep on Dega Tubas, them boys be blowing. Something about DM's doing counts is tough for me to look over. Let the girls look cute and sexy
This battle was a intense battle, much prop for giving both bands love! However I have to question some of the things your said about JSU wining. True I see why you say arrangements but if all honesty what is a distinct way of saying what is a “collegiate” arrangement. A lot of songs now a days aren’t as musical as some were back then. Let alone the fact not every band wants to play the same song another school is playing. Other wise it wouldn’t be a battle of the bands but battle of best arrangements. Now In this battle honestly the battle seem more than in degas honor. Even jsu, su, tnsu fans are agreeing to dega winning. Jackson and dega both have minor issues to fix but truly this was degas highlight.

Last I recall they were not only low volume on high brass, trumpets squeaking wrong notes, their Fraternity and Sorority were off step strolling, only relying on low brass and it felt empty. was their arrangement loud ? partially. Was there a clean sound? Sure because of the woodwinds. But at the end they all as a whole weren’t collectively confident in the song. Talladega may had a rough intro tuba wise but all parts were heard, and it was groovy, not chopped up.Simply put, dega may not have the time adversity that jsu has but they were confident and consistent.
I purposely waited to see this battle after the season was over, with that being said Dega has always been trash to me but 👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 for improving but y’all still got a ways to go with them arrangements are kind of high school. JSU for the win 🏆

Dega has a distinct sound and I'm diggin' it. Kiddos to their trumpets too, last video I thought they sound like trash but this one was much much much improved.. I think they also suffer from the massive low brass section just like Jackson. If you hold over or are the least bit out of sync the low brass will drown you out and make it sound muddy but this was excellent by both bands considering their instrumentation.. Bad part is you have to keep that instrumentation because that's where the unique sound comes from.. dega's mellos straight fire 🔥
Dega got some screamers on Trumpets something that JSU just haven't had fire a while. Let's not sleep on Dega Tubas, them boys be blowing. Something about DM's doing counts is tough for me to look over. Let the girls look cute and sexy

This battle was a intense battle, much prop for giving both bands love! However I have to question some of the things your said about JSU wining. True I see why you say arrangements but if all honesty what is a distinct way of saying what is a “collegiate” arrangement. A lot of songs now a days aren’t as musical as some were back then. Let alone the fact not every band wants to play the same song another school is playing. Other wise it wouldn’t be a battle of the bands but battle of best arrangements. Now In this battle honestly the battle seem more than in degas honor. Even jsu, su, tnsu fans are agreeing to dega winning. Jackson and dega both have minor issues to fix but truly this was degas highlight.
Over the years especially most recent years, most would say Dawg Team was #1 in the game, including me. They have been that Ace in the hole for JSU. Well, Them Mofo's Got Company this year.

Last I recall they were not only low volume on high brass, trumpets squeaking wrong notes, their Fraternity and Sorority were off step strolling, only relying on low brass and it felt empty. was their arrangement loud ? partially. Was there a clean sound? Sure because of the woodwinds. But at the end they all as a whole weren’t collectively confident in the song. Talladega may had a rough intro tuba wise but all parts were heard, and it was groovy, not chopped up.Simply put, dega may not have the time adversity that jsu has but they were confident and consistent.
