I'm happy to see an hour long fifth between these two. This a close battle. SU started off good but after round 4 jsu song selections started putting them ahead. Both had some hiccups that kind of washes each other out. Jackson's trumpets are still getting drowned out on pieces, the mellos at times too. The arrangements, and overall polish is much better than years past. 12 to 15 more trumpets and a few more mellos and the higher brass can be on par with the lower brass. SU baritones 🔥🔥🔥🔥. The arrangements fit the instrumentation well. I heard a few missed notes, some fluffing, and bad attacks time to time. Jackson had these too but not quite as noticeable. I was expecting more selections like power but that didn't quite happen. By the slimmest of margins I would give this to JSU. The song selections is what really did it for me. I think SU had better energy and selections against Alcorn.
Ok after watching all channels footage, I give this battle to jackson. Southern "woman's worth" the whole prelude was beauty, it was their best song and I thoroughly enjoyed jsu "lately" right after. Now I'm ready for this Alcorn jsu battle to close the season out 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Anyone with half of both ears working could hear the complexity of Southern’s arrangements. This is every year and not just this year. Inner and outer voicing, color and the ability to solidify the ending of a great arrangement as well. This is where the rest of the SWAC bands stop comparing and competing; including JSU. But, this is also why Southern is the Human Jukebox.

If I was a visiting band director ain't no way I'd squeeze my band into that little section. The J-Settes couldn't even fit into the stands. Hell luckily last week FAMU was missing 40 members or they wouldn't have fit.
They sell the section right in front of the band, on purpose, so that the J-settes in some way will not be seen... They only do that when JSU plays at SU.
Trumpets - it comes down to trumpets and song selection. I abstain. I have judged battles all over the world, and now I know for certain a sound that can not be duplicated.
Southern played with precision and power throughout the entire battle. They took everything JSU played and continued to eat. The song selections and arrangements were on point. Oh and don't act like you didn't hear dem Baritones and Trumpets feasting. SU took this one.

JSU is right in front of southern
@@trk327 you can clear see they are not in front of SU
@@trk327 Not true sir. JSU was in the corner. SU was in the middle of their stands which is customary. In the past, the visiting band was in the opposite corner.
THE BOOM!!!!😳💪🏾🔥🔥
Hands down the best battle this year! Salute to both bands, you gave us what we needed during this season.... THANK YOU!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Need to watch one more time, but off first viewing, I'm going with SU. They had a better song selection IMO, and they also several moments where my headphones were turned up too loud and their power was bout to rupture my dam ear lol! Great job to both bands for showing up and showing out 🔥🔥💯
That woman worth was something different
i would love a playlist for both bands anybody
Listening to a different band reviewer and he made it seem like JSU was horrible. Pleasantly surprised to hear the sound quality from Killa Kev and both bands hung tough with each other. Different styles. Different strengths and weaknesses. Excellent 5th qrtr
SU was good but JSU came with that BOOM & Precision for the win. SU been skating all year, POWER (which is a classic for SU)has been pushing them to wins not in this battle though.
Man I miss the old su euphos these boys now are just good for a couple loud ass notes or the last note like 2017 they played the whole thingggg
Both bands sound good but SU get the W frfr 💪🏾🔥💯
JSU rocked that Rick James "Ghetto Life"!!!!
I would love to see a drill to Ghetto Life! It is driving !
Damn Jackson tuba section 'juicing'💪🏿💪🏿😳....That song that start @21:58...Them boys was showcasing true Talent ya dig...That song is just 'Horrifying'
Dem lows is in the mf trenches u hemi 🤣🤣
Trumpets - it comes down to trumpets and song selection. I abstain. I have judged battles all over the world, and now I know for certain a sound that can not be duplicated.
SU university perfect loudness beauty the best 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥The Monsters🐲
Great thanks both bands sounds great 👍
Man this battle was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Southern played with precision and power throughout the entire battle. They took everything JSU played and continued to eat. The song selections and arrangements were on point. Oh and don't act like you didn't hear dem Baritones and Trumpets feasting. SU took this one.
JSU!💪💪
Good battle!!!! I was cringing on JSU's second song tho because half of the drum majors were literally just waving their arms!! How tf don't yall know where beat 1 is?! The band director and one drum major had it right but the other ones clearly don't know the music
I could do this every weekend!
Nothing jsu played did anything like the Juke's arrangement of A Woman's Worth. No consistent sections blended more eloquently in jsu's ensemble than SU the entire night. Arrangements separate bands from good to elite. The Jukes have been elite for decades; especially in the arrangement department.
I enjoy both of these bands but I’m gonna have to give the edge to JSU! Great battle!🔥
Really good Classic!!!
Southern Got them wit every woman 💪🏿
This is what's it's about good band's doing their thing love it because I played trumpet for cater g woodson band and St Augustine high school
Sheesh I don’t know who got this one 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ I’m gon give it to JSU but then SU got it too wiit that Beethoven intro tho so hell it’s a tie
Killa Kev you are the GOAT!!!!
From the first song I knew Jackson state was the better southern sounds so good but Jackson sound even better southern always gonna b the truth I can’t lie it’s time for some new energy J state the best band in the land
What was the first song JSU played
It’s not that Jackson sound bad at all, SU is more musical and just to much damn power man!!! SU Baby Once Again!!!!!!!
Su with the dub.
Bruh! Every time I hear that song “Power” by Kevin Gates!! I look away that song tooooo damn powerful!! Southern y’all put a stamp on that!! That song alone knocks out about (2) JSU songs!! GAHDAMN!
