Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-2852 is to focus on tracking and disruption of incidents, where possible, and general monitoring of SCP-2852 compatible population centers. All individuals involved in Blue-Level and White-Level events are to be monitored extensively, and their identities are to be given to local law enforcement as potential terrorist threats. Even when disrupted, individuals involved in Blue-Level and White-Level events are to be cataloged, and their names are to be sent to local law enforcement agencies. Individuals witnessing the disruption of either event are to be given Class-B amnestics.

This is actually a very clever SCP if you know about Christian dogma (especially in Roman Catholicism and similar denominations) and the fact that cicadas in folklore are associated with immortality, resurrection and carelessness.

So that's the point. I was wondering what the point of this SCP was, it seemed like its only purpose of existance was being gruesome.

I wasn't sure where the cicadas came in but I assumed it was a parody commenting on the ridiculousness of family gatherings at religious events.
I'm sure most of us can remember going to events where we saw family members for the first time and had no idea who they were but acted like we'd known them for years. We've probably even excused some of their crazy behaviour and found them likeable.
The bizarre disgusting rituals I'm guessing are simply a massive exaggeration of what really happens, nonesense rituals and people's willingness to go along with it without stopping to question how retarded and/or dangerous it sound. Catholics believe that communion bread and wine literally turns in to Jesus' blood and body for example. Religious circumcision is a better example, hardly anyone stops to question how messed up it is to mutilate a child's genitals and they aren't aware of the short and long term risks including psychological and sexual damage.

Sorry, but even as a Lovecraft-Fan, Cousin Johnny is something so fucked up that it's even beyond Lovecraft. And I mean that in a good Way.
While Lovecraft rarely gets this explicit some fucked up shit is implied. Should the old ones return the madness of the last days of humanity might very well eclipse that of the Rituals described in this SCP. The big difference is how utterly uncaring and inhuman the forces of Lovecraft's Cosmos are. They would not bother choosing a human form and they would have no relationship to catholic/christian tradition and rites.
Baalur I’m not sure if nyarlathetep is an old one or not, but I know it sometimes takes a humanoid form. What makes it lovecraftian is less how fucked up it is, and more how it’s incredibly powerful and influential while still being completely unknowable or incomprehensible

The detail about this scp causing a large amount of d-class cases, who would later probably die a horrific way at the hands of some other scp, is easily the most horrifying part of this.

It’s sound like a black level event is simply to dangerous for all involved or for those trying to stop it. The effects will just spread and can’t be stopped. So it might be best to watch, record, and monitor the effected individuals

I love horror stories that seem like they’re gonna be all goofy silly like the clown breeding one but then end up being some of the most dark ones imaginable. It’s great!
This is by far my favourite SCP. The level of unexplainable strangeness, the disturbing nature of the entity itself, and anomalies that it causes in its victims are just so perfect. 10/10 entry, this is the type of Keter SCP that works best.

this one actually hits somewhat close to home, specifically the blue level event. something masquerading as human abusing a child, causing a lifelong personality disorder and chronic problems for other people present sounds a lot like what happened to a close friend of mine, though it wasn't related to a religious denomination.
the part about the initial event, while seemingly physically traumatic, not causing any immediate harm and nobody present recognizing it for the atrocity it is is especially stomach-turning.

Man, the author of this one had something real bad happen to him at some point, involving cicadas. I can't even begin to guess what it might have been, but it was clearly really bad.
In seriousness, I'm not sure about this one. Horrific and unsettling, yes, but it's extreme to the point that it borders on trying too hard. It feels like an attempt to one-up some other gross SCP, rather than being it's own thing. Not to mention the implication of it being so widespread, and the long term effects being so excessive, actually make it hard to suspend disbelief that it could be covered up.
EDIT: Just read 3004. Never mind, I get it. It's good.
Plus the fact that it's impossible to stop, track, or divert kills any kind of storytelling that could possibly come from it.

Cicadas are my favorite insects. That’s why I like this SCP. The rituals are creepy and bloody especially the White event and it spreads severe effects on the families.
If you think that's creepy SCP 3004 is another cicada SCP, it’s related to SCP 2852. I think there’s one other SCP that’s also related to SCP 3004.
SCP 3004 is one of the most terrifying terrifying SCPs, it’s an entity that could easily take control of christianity and cause an XK-class scenario but the good news is that it's neutralized.

You know, I've always wondered why scp content isn't turned into a tv series or show. Now i understand why, it would be bloody terrifying. Jesus.
It would probably be rated R+, if that even exists.
The real reason is SCP stories are covered under a "no commercial use allowed" copyright. So fan films given away free are fine, but movies or tv shows that earn money are a no-no. Plus not knowing the real identities of 99% of the writers.
You might be able to do something if you make a show that has a similar premise to the SCP foundation.

For me, this is easily one of the most disturbing SCPs. Not only are the actions it causes horrific (self-harming infants, eating vomit, etc.), but something about an entity who just waltzes into people's lives and completely ruins them gets to me far more than if it had just killed them like other SCPs would.
It's nice to watch as my family comes over for thanksgiving dinner

What if the foundation attempted to stop a "Black level event" by destroying the church with drones? (Possibly equipped with Flame throwers or acid of some kind)
Then they would just kill everyone inside.
I mean yeah that would do something but most churches are in very visible area so try explaining to the public that a church needed to be burnt down by drones without mentioning the cicada demon and a casket full of blood.
I remember at my nephews baptism, I was so glad to have johnny there I was so nervous before the event, I had never been a godfather before you know? But johnny reassured me that it would all be fine and that I just needed to keep chewing. Classic johhny!

I knew there HAD to be an upside to having a highly dysfunctional family that hasn’t had a family reunion since the mid 90s. Oh yes, there have been numerous attempts throughout the years to reconcile and reinstate the annual get-togethers; but, it’s never worked out. Now I know why.
Some have claimed that the breaking point was the “Funeral Hone Throw-down of 1997.” Basically, a low-level fist fight that erupted between my aunts at my grandfather’s funeral when they couldn’t agree over which one was his favorite daughter.
Others have suggested the final straw was the “Great Godzilla War of 98,” when my uncle, Terry, and his wife, also named Terry, were visiting their cousin’s house, who had an 8 year old child. The Terry’s refused to apologize or return a Godzilla toy, after learning that their 5 year old son had taken said toy home with him. The 5 year old had stealthily removed the figure from his a toy box in the 8 year old’s bedroom while the cousin was in school.
I’ve even heard a small number of family members claim that the death blow to our clan unity could be traced back to the “2001 Hors d’oeuvre Incident” which involved one of my great-aunts correcting her sisters pronunciation of the word “hors d’oeurve.” My great-aunt Dolores - who everyone referred to as Aunt Doe (“Ain’t Dough” phonetically) - believed it was pronounced “whores de-vores” while her sister, Jeanette (“Ain’t Jeanette” phonetically), pronounced it as intended. Angrily, Doe threw down the box of “Assorted Frozen Hors d’oeurves,” and accused Jeanette of being “a stuck-up ninny” who wore too much makeup, making her look like a “gussied-up harlot.” At that point, Jeanette calmly put out her cigarette, walked into the kitchen, and proceeded to dump all of Doe’s persimmon pudding into the scrap bucket which, in turn, made Doe yell for her husband, Wally, to get the car ready and they promptly left.
I had even postulated my own theory for the split, tracing the beginning of our family woes to the “Illegal Deer Hunt Maiming of 1995.” For the uninitiated, in North Carolina, there are a number of Les around deer hunting, including; one must have a hunting license, one must hunt in an approved area, and absolutely no “spotlighting” - hunting at night while utilizing a bright light rendering the deer frozen in place. So, the incident occurred when my stepfather, Billy, and my uncle, Randal, were driving down a country backroad, “spotlighting” in Billy’s Chevy Vega hatchback. Let me pause here and add: another excellent hunting tip and general rule of thumb, which may or not be addressed by NC state law, is to abstain from smoking crack-cocaine whilst illegally hunting. Details do become rather spotty at this point, but, it is agreed upon by both men that someone saw a deer’s eyes flash in the tree line; someone excitedly yelled, “There’s one,” Randal set down the crack pipe, and he attempted to pick up the shotgun - positioned between his legs - while, simultaneously, Billy firmly applied the brakes. One misplaced finger over a 12 gauge shotgun trigger later and... well... uncle Randal found himself receiving a half-off discount on all tennis shoe purchases for the rest of his life. Billy, unaware that Randal had discharged the firearm directly into his right foot, backhanded my uncle and yelled about damaging his Vega - to be fair, it was a unique vehicle.
What a fool I’ve been! I spent my entire adult life believing my family was, at best, embarrassing and, at worst, borderline psychotic. Instead, I find out that they were selflessly sacrificing their reputations and relationships to protect us from some crazed insect-man and a horrifically painful demise.
I’m so sorry I ever doubted them and I pray they’ll forgive me for my naivety.
EDIT: Upon a secondary listen, I realized I’d somehow missed the “Catholic/Anglican” requirement for this creature to target a family.
My family have always been either Quaker or Independent Fundamental Baptists... so...
Turns out, they weren’t selflessly trying to save anyone from certain doom.

I say this as just an honest catch and hope to just bring it to your attention because the narration of these is so high-quality:
Slough is only pronounced slowe (like the name Howe or ow) when it's a swamp (or in North America a side channel for water).
When dealing with the act of something shedding like described in the narration it's pronounced sluff (like tough) either as a verb or noun.
