    SCP-505 │ Ink Stain │ Keter │ K-Class Scenario SCP
    Item #: SCP-505
    Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-505 is contained in a 50 m x 40 m x 10 m room at Site-██. SCP-505's containment area is to be sealed other than one secure airlock and a series of pipes allowing transport of SCP-505-1 to storage tanks in the event of SCP-505-1 reaching levels in which it poses a danger to containment. Sprayers for 4 M NaOH are to be available through SCP-505's containment area and the rest of Site-██ to combat a containment breach. In the event of a spill of SCP-505-1, the affected area should immediately be covered with an absorbent material (commercial blotting paper is currently standard for this purpose) and doused with alcohol or acetone if NaOH is not immediately available. NaOH immersion is the method of choice for SCP-505-1 containment, followed by incineration of affected material if practicable.

A lot of people are arguing for this to be classified as Euclid, but I believe that a classification of Keter is actually *too* soft. SCP-505 is physically impossible to permanently contain. As described, any container must be repeatedly emptied. Unless the foundation is capable of safely ejecting exuded SCP-505-1 into literal space, which poses a wide range of it's own risks, this should be potentially classified as Apollyon. There is no way with Humanity's current technological capabilities, anomalous or not, that the spread of SCP-505-1 can be permanently halted. Eventually, a large-scale containment breach is garaunteed, and when this occurs, it will almost certainly lead to a K-Class event. It is, by definition, uncontainable, and eventually will produce the end of the world.

Everyone saying “505 itself can be contained in a locked box, and 505-1 simply needs a giant box, with backup boxes in case of reaching full capacity; therefore this should be Euclid or Safe” seems to be forgetting that 1:38 says “there are [numerous] secondary contamination site, with variable containment status” and 1:50 says “# sites are unable to be fully contained”.
That alone says that this is Keter, as contamination outside Foundation sites has already happened, and containing such external contamination sites is proving difficult, if not impossible.

    • @KyleJordanGaming
      @KyleJordanGaming 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

^ Indeed. If it was just the pen itself which could *potentially* create infinite amounts of ink if containment failed, I guess that could be open to interpretation? But the fact that there are already numerous contaminated areas (that they’re aware of) and full containment of even one is virtually impossible, and it’s constantly increasing... yeah, that seems pretty straightforward. I mean, even a single thing that is *impossible* to contain- with irreversible effects upon breach- I’m pretty sure that’s already pushing the limit. But multiple instances? If anything, that’s beyond Keter. That’s some full on ‘Shenanigans’ Level nonsense, if you ask me...

I get why people say Euclid, though in SCP 2006 the quotes at the end
"Keter entity, regardless of how innocuous it may seem. No, SCP-2006 is not a rampaging demi-god, nor is it a regenerating super lizard. However, it possesses the same level of danger as any other Keter that the Foundation has contained.
Think of SCP-2006's purpose. It wishes to scare people. Imagine what would happen if SCP-2006 broke containment, and found out what really scared people. Imagine if it saw the horror and fear of war, or the concepts of paranoia or phobias common to each and every human being.
Imagine if it found the true horror of a nuclear holocaust or an XK-Class scenario. Now couple that with an entity that possesses shape-shifting abilities with no known limits, and you'll understand why it's classified as Keter."
So what I'm saying if it gets out of control, it will be dangerous in order to get this liquid contained if they can. This liquid could spread quickly in areas of water, imagine the animals that would be consumed by the liquid, that is what I find this SCP to deserve the Keter class.

    • @ravenbadger9108

I think 2006 would be a good example of “containment class: Euclid”, “disruption class: highest”, if it were to ever be adapted to the new classification system.

Which in turns exponentially increases the need for storage, drainage and monitoring of the substance, until the very reasonable point in which the foundation is unable to construct storage space fast enough or the planet simply runs out of space.
This is not accounting for what a single drop could do if it ever reached any water source, ground water etc etc, requiring an inordinate amount of manpower assigned to simply look for new instances of 505-1. Fulfilling every requirement of Keter; Being an absolute bastard to manage.

The Keter classification on this one makes me think of SCP-2006. It's not Keter because it currently is world destroying, but rather it's Keter because of its potential. I think it was an SCP-made definition, but a sort of explanation for what "Safe" is in the Foundation is like how a bomb that's not armed and sitting on its own is safe. Think of this SCP in that manner. SCP-505 is like a nuclear bomb that has a core that's constantly reproducting uranium, perpetually nearing criticality, and constantly needs to be emptied of uranium.Yes, it's sitting on its own, not bothering anybody, but what if we forget about it and leave it for just a little too long?

Keter isn't a threat level, it's a containment level. A button which destroys the world can be put in a box and left on a shelf. It's Safe. A skip that randomly teleports itself to a random person's living room every Wednesday and just says "hi" to them, and nothing can stop the teleportation? That's Keter.

Being as they have some control over this one might think Euclid. Unfortunately this ink is dangerous and easily get out of hand. There is also mention of areas other then main site. Unless better containment can be developed the object should remain keter.
Addendum: I know the idea of a pen with endless ink sounds useful. Imagine a pen that never ran out! Unfortunately this is what happens if something like this leaks. Worst thing is the ink spreads on its own. Whoever made this really didn’t think this through!

If it was just the pen itself which could *potentially* create infinite amounts of ink, I guess that could be open to interpretation? But the fact that there are already numerous contaminated areas (that they’re aware of) and full containment of even one is ‘impossible’... that seems pretty straightforward. I mean, even a single thing that is *impossible* to contain, I’m pretty sure that’s already pushing the limit. But multiple instances? If anything, that’s beyond Keter. That’s some full on ‘Shenanigans’ Level nonsense, if you ask me... but that’s just my opinion, man...

    SCP-505
There are currently ██ instances of SCP-505-1 points of secondary contamination outside SCP-505's primary containment area. Containment in these areas is variable but efforts have been made to make procedures as similar to those of the primary site if possible. Of these secondary contamination zones, █ are unable to be fully contained at this time resulting in the spread of SCP-505-1 throughout the environment. These sites are to be monitored at all times and countermeasure development is of the highest priority. For a complete list of SCP-505-1 secondary containment sites, see Document 505-14A-███.
Description: SCP-505 is a Model ████ Faber-Castell fountain pen, produced in 2001. For documentation of its acquisition by the Foundation, see Addendum 505-2. It is identical in all respects to a standard fountain pen apart from its association with SCP-505-1. SCP-505-1 is the black ink produced by SCP-505, which exhibits the property of self-replication. SCP-505-1 spreads at a variable rate, affected by the substance it comes into contact with and the amount of SCP-505-1 present. Quantities of SCP-505-1 have been shown to increase at rates between 0.5 and 540 mL per second. Standard ink-removing chemicals are able to partially remove SCP-505-1 and inhibit its spread; however, sodium hydroxide is necessary to remove SCP-505-1 contamination completely, and has shown to be ineffective in environments with particularly high SCP-505-1 concentrations. Fortunately, the growth rate of SCP-505-1 appears to be inversely proportional to its quantity at high concentrations. Whilst the observed effects of this are negligible in most cases, this inverse growth phenomenon provides the only explanation for the partial containment of SCP-505-1 despite a number of cases of large-scale environmental contamination which were projected to otherwise lead to an NK-class end-of-the-world scenario.
Whilst SCP-505-1 exhibits no unusual properties other than its constant spread and partial resistance to removal, it nonetheless poses serious difficulties for control. SCP-505-1 will flow across non-absorbent surfaces and pass through porous surfaces in an identical fashion to normal ink. All liquid or solid objects or beings in contact with SCP-505-1 will be contaminated. SCP-505-1 will still adhere to non-porous surfaces such as metals, but newly produced SCP-505-1 will constantly flow off. Non-porous materials are thus catalysts for SCP-505-1 spread and all SCP-505-1 contamination should be covered in porous materials such as blotting paper for this reason. It is not possible to permanently contain SCP-505-1 in a non-porous container as said container's contents will gradually increase in quantity, leading to increased pressure and subsequent rupture. All containers being used to contain SCP-505-1 must therefore be drained periodically to prevent a containment breach.
SCP-505-1's effects on its environment are identical to those of an equivalent quantity of standard fountain pen ink. SCP-505-1 exposure will inevitably lead to the death of living organisms; plant matter will be killed due to inhibition of photosynthesis, whereas animals will be killed due to chemical poisoning. In humans and other mammals, SCP-505-1 contact will most likely be via the skin, where it will spread until it reaches an orifice or a break in the skin and subsequently enter the vascular system through mucous membranes. SCP-505-1 will spread through the vasculature and have catastrophic effects on all organ systems it reaches, as it continuously replicates and is unable to be excreted by the urinary system. Cause of death is generally multiple organ failure, although in most cases affected individuals will be terminated and decontaminated prior to this. For containment procedures in these instances, see Addendum 505-1.
SCP-505-1 also has an increased rate of spread through non-viscous fluids such as water, as would be expected of normal ink. Any contamination of the water table with SCP-505-1 must be prevented at all costs, due to the potential for an NK-class end-of-the-world scenario. It is unknown whether SCP-505-1's aforementioned property of an inversely proportional rate of spread will manifest in fluids, as experimentation with such high quantities of SCP-505-1 is strictly forbidden. Thus, any environmental SCP-505-1 contamination in water sources must be met with immediate damming and drainage into storage tanks of all affected areas.
Addendum 505-1: Procedures for dealing with SCP-505-1 contamination in humans
Administration of multiple-dose activated charcoal has been shown to slow the progress of SCP-505-1 contamination in humans but is unable to halt the process. The only known methods of treatment for SCP-505-1 contamination in humans are by immediate excision of the affected area or continuous application of ethanol to an affected skin region. Topical ethanol treatment will not prevent the affected individual from transmitting SCP-505-1 to other surfaces and is thus highly discouraged except in the cases of essential personnel, in which case containment procedures must be observed as in all other sites of secondary SCP-505-1 contamination. In theory excision or amputation of affected areas would be the gold standard for treatment but contamination of surgical instruments and personnel remains a problem. Therefore, all cases of SCP-505-1 contamination in humans other than essential personnel should be dealt with by termination followed by standard procedure of 4 M NaOH immersion and incineration of the remains.
    Addendum 505-2: SCP-505 retrieval history
SCP-505 was acquired by the Foundation from the town of ██████ in Oman, when the town in question was quarantined by the Omani government due to reports of a black fluid beginning to seep out from the town's post office and causing the deaths of a number of its inhabitants. Fortuitously the arid and remote location of the incident prevented wide-scale environmental contamination of SCP-505-1. The Foundation retrieved SCP-505-1 with ██ casualties. No other anomalous properties of the town's post office or the town itself were detected. It was deemed necessary to terminate ████ civilian inhabitants of ██████ who were deemed likely to be contaminated. The incident was reported as a non-extranormal chemical spill.

Dr. Miller, as it stands, SCP-505 should stay Keter due to its XK scenario capacities. It's no different from why SCP-2006 is labeled a Keter. No matter how harmless or straightforward an anomaly seems to be, it can still bring about the world's end. However, if you have any containment ideas you wish to share with the containment specialists, please send a detailed letter of your thoughts to [REDACTED] at Site-[REDACTED].

Yeah, the purpose of Object Class is how manageable is containment. Keter: It can't be contained (Imagine a single song on the radio that will play no matter what happens, changing the station does nothing, and it can happen anywhere in the world. Automatic Keter.) Euclid: Through decent effort, it can be contained. Safe: It practically contains itself or has no spreading features. Thaumiel: It helps you contain other things. (Which is why I think that man made time travel device you did a while back shouldn't necessarily be classes as thaumiel, but that's for another day.)
By that logic, this is keter. It is continually expanding and can contaminate a location which requires special resources to remove or maintain.

Scp 505’s classification is best at KETER. This is because while there is a “death timer” for the foundation, last resort options like dumping the ink into other realms like SCP-860, 024, 106, and much more. It is not Apollyon, there is options to the foundation. But that doesn’t change just how insanely difficult this anomaly is to keep in its box.

  • @CJ-nv6yw
    @CJ-nv6yw 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

The method of containment described in the article is sufficient for long term containment containment. The ink needs to be covered in a porous material to slow its spread and reduce its concentration to a treatable density. Once low density ink is emersion in a relatively low concentration of NaOH and incineration, that ink loses its anomalous properties.
The carbon in the burnt blotting paper will re-enter the carbon cycle and can be re-harvested from whatever plant you want to make your paper out of. So long as human industry survives, this process can be sustained indefinitely. The only problem is that if the ink is generated spontaneously, even if it becomes inactive through treatment, it will slowly increase the mass of the earth until a black hole is formed. This violation of conservation is mass is never addressed in the article, which leads me to think that the foundation science ghouls don't think it's a problem. Either A) The spontaneously generated mater is annihilated when treatment de-activates its anomalous properties, or B) The time scale on which gain of mass happens is so long as to be largely irrelevant to human life.
As for the object's classification, I think that depends on how bad the situation is at the secondary contamination sites. If one or more of these sites has penetration deep into the soil, absorption, treatment and incineration at a high rate may not be possible and a water table breach may be due any day now. In that event, 'Keter' or 'Apollyon' classifications may be warranted.
If penetration is minimal and the ground water has been drained/ does not exist in this area, then 'Euclid' may be more accurate.
In any resepect, 'safe' is off the table.

Special containment procedures: supplies of SCP 505-1 and appropriate pens will be sent to several hundred thousand freelance magazine writers , bureaucrats, paperback writers, political columnists and public relations people with the instruction that they produce their written materials using only the pens and the ink in them. It is estimated that the written bloviations created by these individuals will in fact use up SCP 505-1 fast enough that, despite its self-regeneration capabilities, it will be consumed in a matter of a few years. The writing paper used to contain SCP 505-1 then can either be incinerated to generate electricity or recycled into new paper.

I see a lot of people worried about the storage and drainage issues of SCP-505-1. Let me assure you, there will be no "running out of space" to contain this anomaly. It's threat is in it's ability to cause a runaway environmental shift, not it's containment. Allow me to put your mind at easy by quoting from the document itself.
"In the event of a spill of SCP-505-1, the affected area should immediately be covered with an absorbent material (commercial blotting paper is currently standard for this purpose) and doused with alcohol or acetone if NaOH is not immediately available. NaOH immersion is the method of choice for SCP-505-1 containment, followed by incineration of affected material if practicable."
The absorbent paper is the slow the spread of the SCP while the NaOH is a destructive agent to halt its progression and destroy it. Fire is then used to incinerate all effected material where applicable, if not it is washed in NaOH. This is due to SCP-505 being no different from standard commercial ink aside from it's replication process.
To repeat, this skip is not indestructible. It's destructibility is precisely why it can be contained at all. The problem we have with it is it's replication factor. It is very likely the sub-tanks are used to capture overflow then moved elsewhere for disposal, as the main containment site is likely at a low or predictable rate of replication, thus monitoring of the full tank for pressure. This skip is not an existential threat so long as it is within containment. The problem are the partially contained sites of exposure.
NaOH is shown to be less effective when dealing with large amounts of SCP-505-1 and incarceration of the environment would likely require glassing of the environment to ensure the skip does not simply replicate in the environment all over again. Such an action is not practical, nor would a sunspot on the surface of the Earth be healthy for humanity or be effectively covered up.

Thinking Keter or Appolyon. This is terrifying, actually.
