Look at Yujo's circles when he fires purple and compare them to when Gojo does. Gojo's circles always overlap, Yujo's don't. Purple is going to missfire.
The fact that people think Gege Akutami won't stick to his word is pretty funny. Remember, all but Yuji survives OR ONLY YUJI survives. Yuta and Toge are just sacrifices in my opinion, when Kashimo died I personally had the realization that as an author Gege Akutami is "toeing the line" so people believe Sukuna might lose to the group. This is an underdog story, if Gojo represents Collectivism and Sukuna represents Individualism, the underdog would be Sukuna's Ideology. Collectivism has BEEN LOSING, the most Circular form of story telling would have Yuji win as an individualist and then herald in an age of collectivism as the new King.

It could be that only Yugi survives AND all but Yuji survives. Everyone but Yuji dies, then Yuji or someone else defeats Sukuna, then the culling game ends with everyone merging into that one massive and powerful cursed spirit, everyone is already dead or something. Yuji then activates his domain expansion (perhaps in a fight or not), which would thematically be the opposite of Sukunas. Aka instead of literally destroying everything, it will heal everything. Aka sacrificing himself to revive everyone that died...
