hiryu. Still, if it has high enough quality justifying its price, it doesnt suck, even if you dont dont like the look. Btw i think Every bass fodera makes is magnificent.
I remember when I started playing bass. Sharp frets, rusting screws on the bridge, no tuning stability. It's great to see companies stepping up their affordable ranges. Nice video!
It's good to hear someone demo a bass with a clean sound and not distorted like most others do. Also we can actually hear what the bass sounds like with the way you play it. Not everyone wants a million notes a second! Love your videos. Very informative and entertaining.
@@joshuavanscoyk9404 You will not regret spending around 10,000 dollars. It is far less. Just do it, what have you got to lose? Yeah, that other cheap bass is cool, too. And a second hand one could be better value for the same money. But maybe it just isn't. Whatever you do, it's okay. Buy it, play it, see if it works for you. If not, you can say, you have learned something, sell it and really, how much money would that set you back? Not that much, you will not lose all your money, will you? Four or five string, that's a different problem. The simplest way to describe it, are the words love, cheating and divorce.
Where does Van Scoyk come from? In my country half of us is a Van Raalte, Van Leiden, or some other town. But Van Scoyk I need to Google. Belgium family, perhaps? Aha, Dutch, Van Schaik is another way to write it down. If it ain't Dutch, it aint mutch. Watt?
I know this is a fairly old video, but I would like to say something... ATTENTION BASS PLAYERS! Just because he is playing with a pick amd doesn't play it the way you play it, DOESN'T MATTER! What matters is how it sounds! And to be fair, his playing sounds pretty damn good to me 👍
A few days ago I went out and bought a Ibanez bass, the exact one in the video along with a Fender rumble 25 amp and am in love with this combination. I would definitely recommend both of them as a beginner bass player.
Jack Bruce of Cream played an EB-0 bass. He had two or three different models of Gibson EB basses that played: including, one with a “violin” body. Later in his career, Warwick made a fretless EB-0 type bass for him.
19:25 that looks like jatoba. They come with both options, but I think that one is jatoba. I have a treated NZ pine on my Ibanez mikro, and its much darker, less porous. mikro also came with the jatoba option for most volors, and at the beginning also rosewood
I've got the GSR200 (last one) It's absolutely the best under 500$ bass I've ever owned. Setup out of the box was perfect and the everything was and is fantastic. Out of all these I recommend the gio!
I've watch you many times cool show, learn a lot. But I was wondering if you could play with your fingers instead of always playing with a pick. To demonstrate the tones while using your fingers for those of us who play primarily with our fingers and not a pick? Thank you
i have the tmb-100 i looked into the arcives and my bass was in the last batch with rosewood fret boards. also i live in new zealand so i have great pride knowing that new zealand pine is being used for fret boards
Being a bass player/singer, I have grown very fond of short scale basses. I would love to get my hands on one of the Ibanez Talman short scales. I have a long scale Talman, and I love it!
The title is correct-None of these basses suck. But each has issues. 1) EastCoast-you hit the nail on the head-if you CAN afford a Fender jazz, why buy a copy, even if doesn't suck? 2) Ibanez-I detest a bit too much fret buzz. 3) Music Man-See 1). However I can more easily justify this one, as it is still a Music Man Stingray, just a downscale. I would equate to a Fender Squire.Whatever, I've never been a Music man fan. 4) Epiphone-There's something about the mid range I don't like in this one. 5) East Coast-nice. This would be my favorite for metal. Although, the difference between the neck and bridge pickups is small. I bet you have to roll the tone all the way down to get a significant difference between the neck and bridge pickups 6) Ibanez SR -considering everything, this is my favorite. nice look. versatile. great boost. reasonable price.
This video and the one preceding it are exactly what I needed. I've been thinking about getting a bass and learning to play for a while, and I had no idea where to start as far as buying a bass. This has a about all the information I want to start my search. The basic configurations and what they sound like, all in one place. You're the man.
Just got that Stingray (they don't call it the Sub anymore apparently) in that finish with Rosewood neck and 5 strings. The quality of the thing is really outstanding and it sounds great. If I were a pro I would not be at all embarrassed to gig with it. An incredible bargain.
I would love to see you review the Hofner HCT-185. I’ve been looking at them lately. And they kind of fit in with price range and the theme of these videos... in case there’s another episode of these ;)
hello i like your video i am looking into an 3/4 bass because my pinky will not reach the top string on an full size ibanez gio thank you for your video
No one was more surprised than me when I went out one afternoon to maybe buy a new bass and I came home with the EB-0. I had always discounted it as being a pretty ugly beast but once I had a quick demo I was hooked and didn't even bother trialling the other guitar I had my eye on. It's comfortable, well balanced, and the SS neck is ideal for me as I have arthritis. The only downside is the glossy neck which I would much prefer as a satin finish (like the fantastic Squier Jaguar bass the Missus bought me for Xmas). The quality of entry-level guitars these days amazes me...I bought my first, a Squier Strat in 1989, and it was terrible! The body actually is made of plywood...I still have it in a cupboard, rusting away to nothingness like the Titanic. Bloody kids of today don't know they're born!!!
Paul Mabley I fucking hated mine the bridge would always fall out when changing strings and the posts that set the action would always move out of whack. And the electronics were fucky. It's good you found a nice one though. I loved the sound of it when it worked though.
They weren't cheap either. I paid £189 for the Strat which is [quick Google] about £325 in todays coins. I paid £179 a few months ago to buy a Squier Jaguar bass which is gorgeous.
I have a Jackson JS2 JS that did not run me too much. It’s my first bass guitar and I do like it a lot. I understand if people don’t but for a first bass it’s working pretty good. I’ve gone to stores and tried some of the basses from the videos. The Ibanez sr300 is great for me. I prefer the sr500 mainly due to the feel. However these videos have been a great help to me finding new basses to try.
I bought all 3 of my bass guitars for $40 because he was tired of them gathering dust, they are Fender Squire P-bass(the only one in rough condition), Ibanez SDGR, and a Kona KEJBN I also later bought a Epiphone Les Paul for $100 from the same guy
I've owned my ibanez gsr200b since around 2017. I also gig with it too and its a fantastic bass. Mines in a brown colour. It sounds absolutely fantastic. Even through my 100 watt stagg bass amp which costed around £40 which is quite a bargain 👍🏻
Dude that EB-0 sounds KILLER!!!!! I am a Rickenbacker guy and have a few 4001's and 4003's and also a couple Fender p basses, I've always kinda wanted a Gibson EB-1 but didn't want to spend mucho bucks just to find out I didn't like it but after hearing the epy I think I might pick one up!! thanx for the review brother!
I have the Thunderbird myself....solid piece for $400 and looks great next to my SG.. I love my Gibson but for a bass for fun I thought Epiphone was the way to go....
I've been playing drums for 15 years, and I want to pick up the bass now, i want to get into jazz both in drums and learn with bass as well. So do I just choose any one of these and go or what? The sub man got my attention. Help!!
Hey PMT! What bass guitars you'd recommend for someone with short fingers and/or a beginner? I've been highly interested in trying to play a bass guitar and am thinking of getting one (Sadly I can't from your store as you're on the other side of the world from me), but I have pretty short fingers that I worry will make it difficult.
I love that stingray sound and music man stingray look but hate HATE the bass humbucker and would personally go for everything that stingray had but make it a pj bass and have the j pickup where the bottom half of the humbucker would be and that would look good to me
The Tobias Toby is a very nice and cheap bass. I live these cheap bass videos. I have toured with major recording artists, both in the United States and internationally, and have never used a bass that was over 500 USD.
they are not known for the best basses, great guitars, though. if you are starting out, nothing sounds as good as squire basses for the price. if you wanted something that plays better, get a fender or if you have the budget, a really nice ibanez.
I have a Squier Standard Jazz Bass that sounds better than all the Fender Jazz basses I’ve heard. I need to readjust it’s neck, but it plays and sounds like a dream.
In my opinion the best choice if you want the Fender experience for a lower price. I own a Squier VM Jazz and it's just a solid and good maintainable instrument. And it has the block inlays. Maybe some brands offer a some better specs for a little less money, but i chose the squier none the less If it inspires you to play, its good for you
I currently am looking into getting a first bass. I play a Fender Jimi Hendrix Strat, and I'm looking for something that's sort of similar to the feel of a fender guitar but with a heavy, fuzzy sound. What's my best option?
Jazz bass. If you don't have the cash, get the Squire vintage series. Played both, the vintage series is definitely the closest I've seen to a legit Fender, and for a much better price.
Looking for a cheap full scale bass that doesn't suck with a thinner neck profile. Any suggestions? It would help if you added some information about the neck profiles with each guitar
I see you play slap in the slow motion clips but never noticed anything but pick when the audio is coming in. Just wondering why no slapp/fingerstyle made it into the mix?
Loving the West coast sounds, that music Man too. Would like to hear them all through a cheap amp like the 10 watt Marshall behind you, as that is what most of us will be using at home!
I own an Epiphone EB-0 Bass that I picked up from a pawn shop for $18. Not sure why the price was so low (aside from them not having any buyers.) this thing is amazing when paired with a TC Electronic Cinders OD pedal.
EZ James not entirely sure I hold my bass relatively low because it's just really comfortable that way so maybe it's just comfortable for them with the longer necks? However they have no access to the higher frets so maybe they're just knobs that want to look Cool?? 😂
That Ibanez TMB30-IV Tasman is nifty. I wouldn’t make it my main bass, but having a compact bass with a decent sound can be useful. I also think it looks kinda cool. I might replace the pickups on it, though. But it doesn’t sound bad.
I owned a Peavey Millennium BXP 5 String which sounded insane! I feel that was the best sounding cheap 5 String I had heard, it was a workhorse! Looked amazing in blue flame quilt top.
I started out with an eb copy by a company called "Life". Got rid of it within a year, it just didn't have any attitude at all. Getting a used fender jazz fixed that problem real good...lol
The ibanez is easily the best one. For a little more you can get the entry level Yamaha that wasnt shown but is even better but for the price, nothing beats that ibanez.
Well done on showing the basses and not showing off your slapping nor twiddling about on the top strings. Keeping your slip of the tongue and other mistakes made it fun.
Do a video on 7 expensive basses that suck
samuel morley
well there's that $11,000 Fodera bass that's the ugliest one I've ever seen

If he played bass, it would help. Those were guitar licks on a bass, with a pick. Let bassists review basses.
This guy is awesome! Born entertainer. Cools basses
About Van Life cool*
Yeah, not too many people would have the balls to play a bastardized version of Dani California with a pick and then put it on the internet.

There's no reason why you can't. If its comfortable, go for it!
Lol if you like it, go for it. The bass guitar is for you to play. Play and have fun.
Jack Bruce from cream played an EB3

Jack Bruce the bass player in "Cream" also played a Gibson EBO SG Bass...
EB3 I think

That last Ibanez is a Beast!! JazzBass Pickups paired with Ps, and the P neck, plus the all that PHATTT. Thinging of getting one. Ill let you know!
Your videos are useful and very entertaining - keep it up!

I have a Squier Standard Jazz Bass that sounds better than all the Fender Jazz basses I’ve heard. I need to readjust it’s neck, but it plays and sounds like a dream.
in my opinion it is a realy good bass, you can get the tipical Fender Jazz Bass tone for less then 300 bucks
In my opinion the best choice if you want the Fender experience for a lower price. I own a Squier VM Jazz and it's just a solid and good maintainable instrument. And it has the block inlays.

I like the Eastcoast BC300. I'm tempted to grab it. Looks badass.
What’s the name of the song you’re playing at 18:10? I recognize the bass line but I can’t remember the song.

jack Bruce played an eb 3 that's basically close enough.

You forgot the TBX Yamaha Bass. $225.00 I love mine
