It was really pleasant to watch Josh drive. For a relatively unexperienced driver that he still is, he's extremely calm and collected, and excellent in sticking to his routines. I understand that the need to glance at the gear lever is something that couldn't just go unmentioned, but I think that there's the goal you aim for and there's life: honestly, I don't consider it criminal at this point. Yes, you don't want to let it become a habit, but for somebody driving an automatic in their daily life, there's no escaping the drop-off in their manual-gearbox skills. I think that Josh did exceptionally well with his clutch control -- and he had one pretty steep hill start on a two-lane road which wanted you to pick up speed quickly! -- and he showed perfect awerness of what gear he should be in at any given moment. His changes were also smooth and swift. Actually, I think his shifting skills were very impressive for someone who only had used manual cars for learning, but then spent a couple months picking up his own driving habits in an automatic. Yes, it would be perfect if he didn't feel like he had to glance down at the stick, but, overall, considering his ability to coordinate his actions, I think it's no big deal: when you're checking your blind-spot, you're also taking your eyes off what's in front momentarily; as you do when you need to operate some auxillary control of less frequent use: there are many operations related to driving which don't require immediacy and which you can perform safely only after you've ascertained the road situation and thus made it possible to take your eyes off the road. Again, I'd feel very safe in a car driven by Josh.
After a year of lessons, building my self confidence, reducing my anxiety. I can happily say that today I passed my driving test in Kingstanding (bham) with just 3 minors. I just want to thank this channel as it has massively helped!! I honestly must have watched at the videos by now 😅. For those with their upcoming tests you’ve got this stay calm and keep trying. ❤
Ah oml congrats!! I’ve got a test booked in late Sept for Kingstanding. Hello Aman. Ibrahim in Canterbury here. Just subscribed to your channel. I actually passed my driving test in 1978 (yes 45 years ago, and on first attempt). However, I'm humble enough to realise there's always something new to learn and that I will never be a perfect driver. I'm also considering signing up for the IAM Roadsmart program and taking the Advanced test at some point. I take a huge amount of pride in my driving. I've watched a bit of your videos and although they are geared towards learners, there is more than plenty that us so called "experienced" drivers can also learn. Especially as we may have picked up bad habits over the years. Plus various driving concepts and rules change over the years. Very much like your calm and professional approach...and with the occasional good humour thrown in. Anyhow, I have a lot of catching up to do with your videos. For the record, I'm British, Canadian & Egyptian, born in Cairo. Vancouver Canada is my other home. Update: Just discovered you also have a personal YT channel which is more about you versus driving. I'll take a look at that too. Sorry I missed your recent Q&A video live but will play catch up. Thank You, Ibrahim in Canterbury

What a great drive from Josh. Slight bad habit creeping in (looking at gear stick which is perhaps understandable) and turning right at roundabouts, but yeah still looking at mirrors before turning and doing the manoeuvre. No minor or major faults, you don’t very often see that.

He should have been allowed and encouraged to familiarize himself with the car. For someone with such little experience as Josh, that was an excellent drive.
Well done Josh on your mock test with Aman. As a full licence holder for over a year prior to this video, you have proved yourself worthy of your full licence holder status. A very good video demonstrating your competence and safe driving ability in negotiating roundabouts. I'm well impressed.
I watched lots of your mock tests before my test. They were really helpful to learn and build up confidence in driving in UK. Actually I watched failed mock tests early and learnt a lot and got corrected my errors and passed mock tests which I watched closer to the test date and they were really helpful in building up confidence. Today I passed my driving test with zero faults on second attempt. Thank you very much ❤
I feel spiral round abouts are easiest if you know how it works. U only need to correctly enter n remain in the same lane. And it will lead you to the correct exit. Thanks 😊
Well done Josh. I think driving a manual after an automatic was brave. I haven't driven a manual for 30 years and would find it difficult. You should consider taking an advanced test; IAM or RoSPA. I'm sure you would do well.
Its great calmly watching your video's after i have passed on (july 14) you quickly realise once you pass no matter what its not worth stressing over 😊🎉

Passed the other day. Although i have been driving since 2007. Im just on my 8th month here in the UK. Your videos were definitely very helpful to prepare me for the test. Thanks so much!!
Good Drive Josh! Roundabouts are funny things, we all get used to our local ones and how to handle them, then we go somewhere different and it's "oh how do you do this one?!

Not sure if you're still replying to this! Got a question on roundabouts.. If there is traffic/queue to go into the first exit (our left), and the right is clear, should we still enter the roundabout and queue in? I'm getting mixed responses, some have argued that - unless I can fully enter the exit, I should not enter the roundabout even if there's space. Those have referenced HWC Section 185: Check the traffic has moved off in front of you before you proceed to enter the roundabout
I’m looking for some advice, I recently decided to start driving again after maybe seven years of not bothering with it. Right now I’ve done around 30/40 hours in the car driving with my partner. Including dual carriageway driving (A19) and also some country roads as well as built up areas and little towns. Just wondering when would be a good time for me to go with an instructor (the recent driving was because I had zero confidence and now I feel OK). I was looking at maybe doing a crash course as I can also book time off work to be able to do this as I work full time night shift and I don’t think me having a lesson after a night shift would be a great idea. I’ve booked in to do my theory at the start of next month as I’ve been studying and currently I’ve passed 8 out of the 9 mock tests I’ve done on the official theory test app. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
Hi! You can definitely use an instructor any time from even no experience, I think you should get one as they will know the test procedures and you can get used to the test to pass. All instructors work different- mine gave me a different day every week, some instructors work evenings so maybe you could do one before your shift so you’re concentrated and not tired for one hour. Hope you find a solution! Good luck.
As someone who does lessons every week in mk. They still through a lot of people off. Especially the spiral roundabouts. The funny thing is, people who have passed their test tell me, u just enter and exit when u feel like it, noone follows the rules. And this is true so us learners struggle. 😭
He turns his indicator off before he’s been turned into the road fully after a round about which wouldn’t be very helpful to cars waiting. Also, I do believe the advisory control of steering should be a minor as I’ve seen you give them before for less.
Any tips if I'm struggling to get over my fear of taking the 3rd exit, going towards the bollard after the 2nd exit? I get nervous changing lanes in a roundabout especially if there's cars behind and judging if it's safe to get into the left lane before my intended exit
It seems that there's always long queues leading up to these roundabouts. If i was going straight, I'd get in the right before hitting the queue then get back in the left when it's clear.
