I much prefer the new location of the BSA for two reasons, well one really 1. When it is active, only the driver can clearly see that it's active and it's not a distraction to other drivers. 2. When it is active and you turn your blinker/indicator on, it rapidly flashes (to get your attention) - you don't need to be distracting other drivers with it. Great vid! As always

My 2016 has the BSD alert light IN the mirror. My wife's 2018 has the BSD on the mirror housing. I prefer the mirror housing location as a driver. I find that the IN mirror location isn't visible in many lighting situations, plus it requires that you to refocus your eyes to see it. That said, when I am overtaking a car I like it when I observe the other vehicles BSD light lighting. I know that the other driver has an alert that someone is in their blindspot (but whether they 'see' is another matter).
Alex, I want to thank you.. For several weeks I noticed my blind spot lights weren't coming on. I didn't know what it was called; thought it was lane change warning. After watching your video I immediately turned the feature on, took it on the road and it worked ! You saved me a lot of anxiety, time and made my driving safer. BTW, what is RCTA ?
happy I could help! RCTA stands for rear cross traffic alert. This will alert if a car is coming from behind down the road while you're in reverse. The example i use often is backing out of a parking spot at the grocery store. While you're backing up, you may not immediately see if another car is coming up quick down the aisleway. RCTA will audibly alert you so you don't accidentally back into them. If your car has the blind spot detection, it should also have the RCTA. You'll see RCTA on your touch screen to the bottom left when in reverse.
I’m a huge Subaru enthusiast ... not sure why anyone would want to turn that safety feature off. It doesn’t beep just gives you a heads up with the orange light. I currently in a ‘20 Outback Limited. ❤️ Subaru!!

I'm not sure either. Subaru does have eyesight now as a standard in all trim levels though. So you can get a base model and still have safety features like pre-collision warning/automatic braking
Please tell me how to turn on the beeping on my eyesight when I am changing lanes on the highway. Subaru dealer says he's never heard of that. I took my car to get checked , and someone touched something. Now on t he highway the beeping sound is not working only the light.

I recently just got my eyesight services back after putting in a new windshield. I’m noticing that the Blindspot detection, while it does blink orange, it does not beep when there is a car in my other lane and I put on the signal. I thought I did before, but I’m not 100% sure. Hey Matthew! I’ve learned recently that the audible alert for the BSD only comes on when you try to merge into the lane next to you while it’s already occupied. Other than that, there won’t be an audible alert.
Like the new version with the large light on the in side of the mirror. The old light is too small to see when in traffic. Trying to figure out what years and trims have the large light mirror.
Same question I don’t have bsd on my Impreza. However before an update done on my car. When someone approached me the circle on side view mirror would come on. Not sure if it flashed now it doesn’t work. I’m not crazy it did work. Any ideas?

I get distracted when changing lanes because 2 lights are potentially blinking (turn lights and blind side detector). So when a car is next to me and Im trying to change lanes, its possible they are both blinking and its distracting. I had an older mazda and it had the blind side detector light and sound alert it beeps when there is a car next to me while trying to switch lanes.
when im to close to the edge of road or lane my car warns me but when im backing up in reverse it is no longer warning me a vehicle is coming and it always did before. do u have idea why this is now happening. i have 2024 suburu crosstrek but dont have any of the butoons u showed in your vehicle
My Honda Odyssey gives an audio alert should you turn the blinker on and someone is in your blind spot. Is there an audio alert feature too on the Forester? I looked in the settings. The light is nice on the mirror and a good size. My wife’s Odyssey has a much smaller light within the cabin itself. My Forester beeps when the lane keep assist kicks in, but not blind spot monitoring…

Hi Richard! The Legacy Premium with the BSD package will have an audible and visual alert on your back up camera screen when you're backing in too close to a wall or another car. Most people like this feature but there is also a way to turn it off if you didn't want it on. As of right now, the Android Auto can't be enlarged. Hopefully Google developers will allow Subaru to change this in the future. The Apple CarPlay on the other hand does have the full portrait mode screen.

I have an Impreza sport and my left mirror when a car approached my blind spot. Well 2 was ago I got an update from Subaru cause the remote start didn’t work. Now the feature I had is gone and Subaru doesn’t believe I had it for 3 weeks and I did. Not happy at all.
2019 and newer has the BSD on the inside of the mirror cap (like the one in this video). The old version has the BSD light on the mirror so it made it more difficult to see.
Alex I need specific help with turning on/off BSM/RCTA on my 2019 Subaru Forester Limited. I have a very narrow garage door opening. So when I back in I am constantly getting alerts from the bam/RCTA. I have turned it off by the switch next to steering wheel but stil getting alerts. What am I doing wrong? No matter what I do I constantly get a loud alert signal. If possible I don’t want to hear anything when turned off. Please advise when you answer .
I recently had my rear driver side Bumper replaced. The blindside light goes on the mirror when I start the car and after I accelerate the BSP/RCTA WARING COMES ON. Will Subaru fix this Free of charge. It is a 2020 outback leased vehicle. If not how much should they charge to fix this. Since the light goes on it may just need an adjustment. Thanks for your help.
My BSDS hasn’t worked properly since the first heavy snow in 2018 when I got it. Took it to the dealership and they gave it a quick look and said it would take longer to diagnose what was wrong. I haven’t bothered because I prefer to not be getting jolted by loud beeps when I am driving or sitting in a parking lot! So, now that I want to sell my car back at he end of the lease, I want to get it fixed. I can’t find the sensors to see if they need cleaning. Where are they?
Frankly I'd rather see it on a low down heads up below the hood line as well as on the mirrors themselves just in case the one of the mirror likes my fail have a backup way and also, is it there a sound attached to that warning I thought there was I must have turned it off, 20/20 Subaru forester, I don't know where to look to find the sound for that particular same, all the other sounds are bothering me but you know I still want them.
That's a great question Cinci. I wasn't sure either until I had a military vet tell me it can be a trigger to PTSD. Some people can also find it annoying to have flashing lights in general so it's not for everyone.
I cannot believe my $26,000 2020 legacy sport does not have blind spot sensors. My 2010 milan hybrid does! This car is a decade newer, & does not have it. Also, the 2.5 NOT being on the "sport" model is absurd as well.

I don't know why the safety features are optional they could save you from an accident.

I wish it had an audible beep when my signal is on and it detects a vehicle in blind spot. The Ascent has a big blind spot in my opinion.

Yes, if your outback has the power rear gate there’s a button to open and close from the inside. It’s on the left hand side on the dash

Hi Julia, it will only blink when someone is in your blind spot. There isn't an audible alert option unfortunately

If the light is on dont change lanes. If its off iot is likely safe to change lanes. But I always look anyway just because I'm over cautious.

nope. the blind spot detection will stay set to the settings you last set them to.

unfortunately, no. You'll have to have it equipped from the factory.

on the 2022 outback limited, once you turn on bsd, will it stay on after shutting the engine off and restarting it?
Yes, for all Subaru models the BSD will always stay set to the last previous setting you chose.

Why on earth is there an option to turn blind spot detection off? That just confuses things since a person might assume its on when it isnt.
That's a great question Cinci. I wasn't sure either until I had a military vet tell me it can be a trigger to PTSD. Some people can also find it annoying to have flashing lights in general so it's not for everyone.
I cannot believe my $26,000 2020 legacy sport does not have blind spot sensors. My 2010 milan hybrid does! This car is a decade newer, & does not have it. Also, the 2.5 NOT being on the "sport" model is absurd as well.
I wish there was a beep when you have your directional on and there is a car in. Your blind spot.

The flashing light can sometimes be a trigger for someone who has PTSD. I didn’t know that either until recently.
I have a 2025 forester and I think it doesn't have a bsm even I look at the left hand side to doesn't have a icon button it's subaru premium 2025
