We really like our 2022 Outback Touring, but HATE, HATE, HATE the climate control adjustments on the LCD screen. It requires you to take your eyes off the road to turn on/off and adjust. This is a big safety issue. Then the driver monitoring system yells at you when you adjust the climate control. I love the fuel efficiency in our Tutbo. I drive efficiently and am getting 33 mpg actual measured over a few fill-ups.
Have you had the software update yet that makes the climate controls touch screen buttons larger? It's not a perfect fix but it sort of addresses this. Plus it makes the heated seat controls much easier.
@@alexpmo I followed your advice right after I bought my 2022 and had the new software installed. My dealer didn’t even have the new software after you recommended it. I had to wait about a month but it made all of the adjustments quick and easy. I think every sales person should recommend your TH-cam channel. Your content is very useful. I don’t have to keep calling my dealership or going over there to solve problems. I just tune into your content and I get the information I need and usually end up learning about some great features that I didn’t know existed. Thank you!
@@alexpmonext time I’m at the dealership (Budd Baer, Washington, Pennsylvania) I’ll have to ask about that update. That might help. I was really sad about the controls when I bought my ‘22, my ‘19 was much easier to use. Thanks!
If your Outback is equipped with it, you should take a few minutes to learn how to use the Voice commands; My '25 Forester is so equiped and you dont even have to take your eyes off the road. Just touch one button on your steering wheel and order the temperature you want. Alex has a nice video on that system. Check it out!
I have a 2022 Outback Limited XT and I couldn’t agree more with you about the Turbo. My last Outback was a 3.6R and with the XT I didn’t lose any HP. Accelerating is faster and driving in the mountains is effortless. My last two Outbacks have been metallic gray, which is probably pretty boring, but I’m old and I like what I like. One thing I would really recommend is putting a ceramic coating on. It enhances the gloss and makes washing a breeze. Also, I don’t know what the upsell package is called, but I’ve been really happy that I got the door trim protector package. Thanks for all the great information and your honest feedback. When you’re ready, go bold on the color and enjoy your next Outback!
@ I just like taking care of my cars. I didn’t pay a penny for them because I negotiated with my salesperson to get them included in the price. I might be a rare customer, but when I turn my car in to get a new one, it looks pretty close to how it did the day that I picked it up from the dealer. Some people take a lot of pride in the scratches they get while exploring the wilderness. When I was younger, that’s how I felt. Now I just have different priorities. ✌️
I have a 2015 Outback with the four cylinder engine. It has the sunroof which I never use. Has about 67,000 as I don’t drive much. Has the memory seats which I have not used. Heated seats. My driver seat is falling apart as the material has dried and cracked falling apart. Does not have eye sight system. Has all the traction control systems. Had hail damage but they did a good job and look fine. Has a CD player! My fourth Subaru. I really like it. Less electronics to mess up. I like it as it has a simple dash layout. Looked at new models, 2024-25 Outback and Foresters. Mine has all the features that I need.
I have the 2024 option 15 no turbo and I get 30 to 32 mpg most of the time but I set the cruse at 60 mph most of the time . I live in the hills of East Texas . But I am retired and drive my age so every mile counts on my income . Have a blessed day .
Well he’s going for safety….Subaru beat Toyota and Lexus on reliability and safety. You probably didn’t hear that. I think there’s some good Toyota TH-cam channels. But you’re always welcome here. ❤️🌵🎄
100% with you on the memory seats. My 2021 Outback limited has the memory seats and the driver cam. I’m 6’2” and my wife is 5’2”. She usually moves the seat a few inches back so I can get I. And the car does the rest. Living in Michigan, the heated steering wheel is the best luxury. I sometimes regret not getting turbo and wish I had the front camera. Love my car.
I absolutely love my 2024 Forester Wilderness, in Geyser Blue, which we got in January of this year. We just got back a couple of weeks ago from a 10 state 3314 mile trip. The car was flawless and averaged 27 - 30 mpg. The only thing I would've considered is turbo. It pretty much has everything else. Thanks again, Alex, for a great video.
Alex in 2020 I purchased a Subaru Outback Touring XT. I wanted the 2.5ltr turbo engine because I travel back and forth from AZ to CA for business purposes. Since 2019 (Nov. 1st), my car's odometer reads just over 46,380 miles. Except for two replaced windshields and a gas cap cover "rubber spring", the car has performed as expected. My Outback is loaded with accessories. Since traveling back and forth from AZ to CA for business purposes I had my frontend, fenders, hood and side mirrors film protected. Still look brand new. Outback has splash guards, door cup, edge and horizontal door protection (no dings but I'm careful where I park). Interior bulbs that were incandescence are now LED bulbs including bulbs beneath front doors as well as the bulb above the spare tire area (donated donut tire to dealership replacing it with full spare tire), plus backup light bulbs. The fuse box cover was replaced with fuse box container storage tray - holds coins etc. The center console cups for drinks have cup coasters plus a cup cell phone holder when traveling. Behind my headrests I have car seat hanger hooks. No more groceries flying all over the place since now the grocery bags are on hooks. I also have front door scuff protectors. My rear seats are rubber protected, rubber mat plus a cargo net. Thanks to Alex I learned Subaru's cargo net has TWO zippers. Just turn over the cargo net and surprise surprise another zipper. I have a Subaru trailer hitch I ordered from the factory but wasn't available prior to delivery. Dealer installed it without any labor fees since I had ordered it from the factory. I also have a hitch-mounted bump step. In parking lots, the step affords rear end bumper protection and I can tell you it works great. Except for the cup coasters, cup phone holder, LED bulbs, fuse box storage tray, door cup and edge protectors, headrest hooks plus hitch-mounted bump step the remaining upgrades are Subaru accessories. And now you know the rest of the story! Ken
One thing I would like Subaru to provide is a 7-pin hitch option. As far as know, Subaru only provides A 4-pin. To tow our teardrop trailer and handle trailer brakes and charge the trailer battery, as well as have brake lights, we needed to locate another place to have that installed. But our 2019 Outback seems to handle our light (1400 lbs + gear) trailer just fine.
ToughGuyLevi, do not say you're sorry to that rude person I am glad you put all those items into your post!!! Getting ready to buy a new Subaru thanks so much!!
@@donnaneeley9920 The 2026 Subaru Outback XT has changes. I know some of them ie the entertainment screen I'm told is horizontal instead of vertical plus there are control knobs on the screen- cup holders have been moved off the center console. Relocated because many owners complained the holders/shift arm were too close. Body looks beefier and a bit longer. Taking more after the Forester/Ascent. Dealers viewed the new 2026 models in Las Vegas in June. No photos allowed. 2.4 L Turbo is the same but did some changes to the CVT transmission. Donna - when I was in my Prescott's Walmart parking lot, new 2025 Subaru Outback XT owners knocked on my window when I was parked and asked me about my accessories. I showed them a couple and they asked if I could email my accessories to them. I said yes and also informed them about Alex's Subaru knowledge in his TH-cam channel. When I viewed Alex (I'm a subscriber) wish he didn't buy or what he should have accessory purchased I decided to cut/paste my email in the comment section. The couple didn't know a full spare could fit replacing the donut plus other accessories I have that are game changers. LivTee (Amazon) headrest hooks keep groceries from rolling all over the place and IMHO a safety factor. Again thanks for the kudos- Ken
The customized driver seats & mirror adjustments can also be enabled by associating them with the key fob; if two drivers each use their own fob, the seats & mirrors will begin adjusting as soon as the fob is recognized when your hand is on the door handle. Once again, very good info to be shared. Thanks.
PS I never used the facial recognition and found it irritating for the 3 1/2 years I drove that Touring! The car was constantly nagging me that it wasn’t set up (duh!) I actually blocked it out of my mind along with the power button that put down the rear seat, which I didn’t remember it had! Thanks for reminding me! So refreshing to have an honest guy like you saying what you regret getting and miss having! You rock! Happy Holidays, Michael Albuquerque NM USA
The wireless charging pads are Qi compatible which works better with Android phones. The iPhone uses MagSafe proprietary wireless charging. Since the contact points are slightly different they will not align perfectly causing the charging pad to work harder in turn causing your iPhone to heat up. Don’t use wireless charging if you have an iPhone. Plug it in to charge. Love your videos! Very informative!
Magsafe IS Qi charging. You can stick an android on an apple magsafe charger and it will charge the android phone just the same. Only difference is the magnet. It’s not proprietary.
I have owed two used Subarus over the past 20 years. The first one was a 1998 Outback which lasted for over 200,000 miles and now I have a 2010 Impreza with 191,000 + miles. Remember to change the timing belt and water pump around 100,000 miles and the car should last another 100,000 miles. Subarus are built to last.
Yup. Also get your high and low pressure coolant lines, crossover tube gaskets, and thermostat. It’s not much work and not much money if you do your own work. Even on the F series engines with timing chains, I still change water pumps every 100k preemptively. The TCU is a different story, but the newer new engines have done away with it for an old-school thermostat again. I still pull the intake to get a look underneath every 50k in order to check for leaks and clean the intake valves of GDI crud. It’s worth the 30min of work.
even if you aren't a good car owner, it will probably last. I have a 2011 Outback 3.6R and I got it in my early 20s when I didn't care about car maintenance lol and it's still going strong at 220k miles. I've never changed anything really except the oil when I remember. I should probably look into the belt and water pump
I have the 2024 Onyx in Autumn Green and so happy I got that color. I also had mine custom made with the wind deflectors on the windows since I had them on my previous Legacy and I will always get them. I do have the standard engine, but wish they still made the 3.6R 6-cyliner because they had the power of the turbo but accelerated much smoother and quieter than the turbo.
I have the 2024 Outback Onyx with turbo. It is an awesome vehicle. I change the oil every 4,500 miles because the turbo component runs very hot and breaks down the oil faster. It is a compromise between 3,000 miles and 6,000 miles. What an absolutely awesome piece of technology this SUV is!
Finally, you mentioned about the XT. Good point. I purchased the 2023 Onyx 2.5 at the same time with you. I already switched to OBW. The MPG didn't drop too much. Love the turbo!
I was almost in the same boat! I opted for the NA 2.5 after trying out the Wilderness and ended up preferring the NA for my family’s needs. Didn’t like the way the CVT played with the turbo and in 2 years I have yet to run into a situation where I wish I had one (I’m hauling kids so I’m resigned to driving slow lol). Reduced maintenance costs were the icing on the cake. Love those StarTex seats though!
I have the 2022 Outback turbo XT. LOVE IT! Bought it new. No problems at 67000 miles. Average 25.6 mpg in overall driving.. As for the charging pad which is in my model. I took the rubber pad insert out. Charges much better and now allows for my large smartphone protective case😊
We have a 2023 Onyx 2.5 without sunroof or gps. Built in roof rails sit lower than Wilderness and allows entry to our garage with roofbox on. Agree on hot wireless charger, so I flip phone over to fit in spot without charging. Wireless car play is better with newest Subaru software update. We get over 30 mpg on road trips, 4-500 range, only 25 mpg combined in town. Startex seats not as hot as leather on hot summer day. I would like memory seats, surround camera and a hybrid….but for $35K this car is a great value. Our master Subaru mechanic steered us away from the turbo since we keep cars for a long time.
Alex the grass is always greener my friend! I was the only driver of my 2020 Forester Touring in White over Saddle, which was stunning! I set the memory seats “far” to get in and out in a heavy winter coat (plus I’m chubby!), and “close” for driving and when the service tech dared to move my seat! I’m so glad to be back in my simple yet very nicely equipped 2023 Crystal Green Silica Forester Premium with my “always adds” hood deflector, side window deflectors, hitch, all weather mats and rear seat back protectors! Cheers, Michael Albuquerque NM USA, PS I must admit while Onyx and Wilderness trims each have their niche and are definitely cool, I really enjoy looking at my Forester from the front and side with its clean uninterrupted lines! Just a lot of green!
Thanks for this. My husband is likely to get the Outback when his 2011 CX-9 totally dies. I have a turbo Touring fully tricked out 2018 Forester and am urging him to go with the Turbo engine and whatever level also gets him the steering responsive headlights. I would not change a thing about my Forester, and am enjoying adding black things to my white vehicle. Door handle protective cups in black, wheel arch covers in black, mountain decal in black. White color allows you to really go to town on personalizing the car. At 6 plus years in I still have under 40k miles on it! I expect I will own it into my 80's. May be it is my last car!
I have a 24 OBW and really miss the memory seats from my ‘19 Ford Escape. It’s my daily driver during the week and on the weekends, we use it as the family car. It would be nice to not have to readjust everything on Monday morning after my husband has been chauffeuring us around all weekend. I do love the turbo; it makes passing and merging easier and safer. The heated steering wheel is definitely my favorite little luxury. One year and 34000 miles later, my Outback is still my dream car. Driving it is truly a pleasure, whether on paved roads or when getting to out backcountry trails. I’ll never drive anything but a Subaru ever again.
I am pleased with my 2022 Outback Wilderness. It has 24,000 miles. I just need to have the infotainment software updated. The dealership tried and said there was an issue and replaced the whole unit, but the settings are the old style (which is not driver friendly). Hopefully at the next service, I can have them update the software and hopefully like the new settings.
@@JustAFlyover we almost traded our 2020 outback for a 2022 wilderness but the wilderness did not have the memory seat buttons. We just got a 2025 outback and it scans your face and adjusts the seat to each driver. You can set up four ot six, I don’t remember. The two memory buttons are still there but I'm not sure why since they have the face scanning thing now.
Good review of the 23 Onyx Edition. I also bought the 2023 Onyx new as I didn't want the turbo model as I do a lot of long distance road trips and wanted the additional mpg's. The 2019 Outback Ltd that I traded in with 120K miles I was disappointed that the Subaru leather seats did not wear as well and the Onyx had that Startex material that has so far worn beautifully. The seats still look new. I now have 54K miles on my Onyx and have taken two trips to TX, one to FL and up into Canada three times. Mostly highway. The recent trip was 4K miles over two weeks from CT to San Antonio TX. We did a northern route to San Antonio and returned by way of a southern route back home to CT. The Outback ran flawlessly as expected. There are three features I don't like in my Onyx. One is the lane assist, the second is the Auto Start/Stop and the third is the wireless charging that cooks my iPhone 14. Other than those things, I love my Onyx Edition. My Outback is serviced at my Subaru dealership and I change the oil and rotate the tires every 5K miles. I do follow all of Subaru's service recommendations with one exception, I have the CVT fluid drained and filled every 30K. I have a good relationship with my sales guy at my Subaru dealership and with their service team. My wife has bought her Subaru's at this dealership for the past 20 years. The Outback makes a fantastic long road trip car with very comfortable interior and great fuel economy. Thanks for your video content.
I am living in SAN ANTONIO :) yea , I am interesting 2025 onyx edition, without turbo. I always drive to Houston with my old corolla, but I would like get a subie for safer and comfortable .
On my 22 forester sport I wish I had Memory seats, heated steering wheel, latches that fold seats down in trunk. Wish it had good built in GPS maps too. Glad I got the blue floor lighting and hitch and many many extras.
I bought a 23 Forester Touring and put in a wireless charging pad myself for around $100. I love the manual climate controls and the 8 inch display is fine. Love the car!
Thanks for yet another helpful video, Alex! I was a little apprehensive about watching it since we are picking up our first Outback later this week and I was worried we had made some or all the mistakes you’d be talking about. We had to place a factory order because the trim, color and options we wanted were not available within a 50 mile radius. We went with an autumn green limited XT without a phone charger. Whew! 😅
I had a Subaru Forester 2022 Loved this car but the one thing that bothered me if it was raining or snowing. The wipers didn’t turn off when you stopped the car. This was bad especially in snow and cold conditions. I now have a Toyota rav 4 which I’ve had for a year. I hate it Comfort wise Subaru is so much better. Getting in and out of my Toyota is very difficult as it’s a huge step up and in .. as soon as Subaru comes out with a hybrid I’m going back
Agree so much about the memory seats and phone charger. I got the 24 Wilderness and for the price point, memory seats (even without facial recognition, just buttons) would be expected. And don’t get me started on that useless charger. I had it removed at the first oil change. Damages phones due to overheating and it won’t even maintain the charge on iphone while using google map thru car play. Cheers ! Thanks for the honest review.
I’ve now had one crosstie and two outbacks, all three white. Best visibility so maximizing safety! I did really like the green that was only available on the crosstrek hybrid for a minute, but it wasn’t worth the money, torque and spare tire.
We have a 24 outback w turbo . A couple things; I don’t like is the touchscreens ability to cast from our iPhones. If I am able to call up maps, it is a hassle changing to work from my husbands iPhone. We never wanted the sunroof, but it came with it.
I wouldn’t change anything on my 2023 touring xt. It is an amazing vehicle, although it is not perfect for all types of winter road conditions. Years of experience have taught me what you just described - we have a list of things we look for when buying
I drive a 2017 Forester that is great, except for control screen. I had not driven a Subaru since my 1976 DL in college. First front wheel drive car I had seen.
Based in Australia, and have just recently taken possession of a 2024 Subaru Outback XT Touring and I have to say, it is a superb vehicle. The upgrade from the 'standard' Outback is well worth the money in my opinion. The memory seats are great, as is the Nappa Leather (tan option on mine), but the turbo is where I really feel I'm getting a significant upgrade. I was surprised by how this seemingly modest vehicle performs, particularly in SI (sport) mode - it's made my drive to and from work a pleasure. I'm averaging between 9.2 and 9.5L/100 (no idea what that is in miles, sorry!) and I'm not a particularly conservative driver. Adaptive cruise control, certainly helps to ensure fuel efficiency.
Thanks Alex, I really wanted the white Subaru but at the time I ordered it the only models available were the new blue and it turns out I really like the colour, sorry you find yours boring. I do have the automatic seat adjustment and love this option as I'm short and my hubby is tall so he has to just hit #2 and the seat adjusts for him. I do however wish I opted out of the automatic charging, it doesn't work properly and like you said there's no room to store anything. I would have liked to see more storage for sunglasses or a cell phone. Maybe the 2026 models will be different. I have a 2024 so I'll wait and see what the new models offer.
My 2025 OB Touring XT is getting 27.9mph overall. Not bad with my 60/40 mix of city/highway. Oh, and it's got the turbo, no wireless charging pad, and the memory seats. The only thing I wish it had are the bronze wheels from the Forester Sport. Previous car was a 2009 OB XT, with 5sp manual. Last of the manuals, last of the previous turbo models. My best highway numbers were never as high as the overall mileage I'm getting now. Loved it for 15yrs, now love the 2025 even more (my 5th Subaru wagon).
The white looks good The color is a Flimsy regret in my opinion. We have the 2025 Limited and I must agree set control buttons are a HUGE difference. I am 5' 10" and my wife is 5.0 and going back and forth between drivers is a game changer. We have the Cosmic Blue and it is fine.
I have a 2024 outback wilderness, in this white. Im getting 30 to 3q mag in town, driving in Tucson. But, on the hwy, traveling the Rocky mtns to Jasper. This turbo is a beast❤
As you said, the Crosstrek has more room for the wireless charger - except I always have to keep shifting the phone around so it charges continuously. Otherwise the yellow light flashes meaning it doesn't charge. I had previously leased a 2021 Outback Onyx and the 2.4 turbo was a GREAT engine although I wasn't crazy about the fake shifts with the CVT. Like you, I also highly recommend the 2.4 turbo if you get an Outback. I miss my Outback Onyx XT but agree with you on having memory seats. Those would have been nice.. Also the earlier Outbacks had issues with the wired CarPlay connectivity and the need for them to reprogram the infotainment system. The 2023 and newer models with the wireless CarPlay (including my Crosstrek) are much more reliable! The only other thing I wish it had (which you did not mention) was a heated steering wheel, which I think is only on the top editions of the Outback. Especially since this is sold as a winter car, heated steering wheel should be standard, just as heated seats are. It also is not available on the Crosstrek, and with all the other safety stuff that comes standard, adding a heated steering wheel shouln't be a stretch.
I've really enjoyed my outback..; it's plenty snappy without the turbo. Frankly, unless you're towing a trailer there's really no need for a turbo, IMO. I do get 33 mpg on the highway with mine, 22 or so in town, no doubt to my leadfoot - it accelerates deceptively fast. The criticism given many times of the sluggish control panel is a well warranted criticism. It's the one thing I don't like.
Same here. Our subie is a kid hauler so there is no need for the turbo for our situation. Lower fuel and maintenance costs are more important to me than trying to pull on someone. Diapers are expensive, man.
We had memory seats on a few Saabs we owned before getting our first Subaru. Worked fine. With our 2015 Forester Touring, no memory seats and it takes me all of about 20 seconds to readjust the seat and mirrors after my wife drives it. Not a big deal to me (and I can adjust the seat to how my crappy back is feeling that day). We took delivery of a brand new Ascent Touring earlier this week which has memory seats (kept our Forester too). Now I'll have to remember to use the feature. We opted to have the wireless charging pad installed as my wife really wanted wireless charging... We'll see. They're pricey, but at least the dealer gave us a discount on accessories when we bought the car. I'm glad that the 2.4 turbo can deal with regular gas (at least in the Ascent). We opted for the 2.5i in our 2015 Forester because I was tired of buying premium fuel for the turbocharged Saabs. When we started looking at new Ascents, I really liked the Autumn Green. My wife hated it. We considered blue, but already had two blue vehicles (including the Forester). We test drove a red one and thought that looked good. They had an Autumn Green one in the showroom (with a dead battery so we couldn't drive it) and, probably thanks to their clever choice in lighting, my wife decided that it was not a bad color after all. So we bought the Autumn Green one. Ironically, when we were taking delivery, they had moved the red one into the show room and I had second thoughts, but the hitch and wireless charging pad had already been installed on "our car", so I didn't say anything.
Interesting to hear your mpg numbers. I just bought a '24 Forester, and so far I'm getting 33-34mpg overall, without really trying hard. This is mixed driving & roads. The Forester was rated 26-33, av. 29 on the sticker. I'm happy! On the controls, being a tech nerd I wanted the new "tablet" head unit, but now I'm happy with my Forester's 2 screen plus buttons version! No menus to hunt through.
Alex, I watch all your videos. I was so happy when you got your Outback Onyx. I have 2015 Limited, in white. Personally, I always loved the white. But I am now shopping for a new one and looking at the Onyx XT. Wished that Subaru offered newer colors for its last year with this body style. Perhaps a new blue-grey or some lighter green. The dark colors don’t show the contrast of the body cladding and black trim of the Onyx. I may end up getting white again. (Yours looks awesome, btw.) I’m glad to hear you say you’d prefer the turbo. I have the seat memory, but never use it. I adjust my seat so often, and it may depend on what I am wearing or what shoes I have on. 😂
My '24 Onyx XT (turbo) averages 21 - 22 mpg, FWIW. But I love the power! Crystal Black Silica! The best color... even in hot Florida! After a wash, it looks awesome... for about a day! LOL! Of course I agree on the wireless phone charger. Worthless! Mine was already installed, so I had no choice. The only thing I'd add to the Onyx XT is the power folding mirrors.
2024 XT Turbo 4th Sub (2)WRX & Crosstrek. Tows Seadoo Switch effortlessly. 58 years and 25 vehicles later, couldn’t ask for more in ride, comfort, handling and power (OK, I’m old now, but still miss my Jaguar E-Type Roadster)
I love my 22 Subaru Outback but am disappointed in these 3 items: 1. The full economy is terrible 2. No usable storage around the driver, and 3. The tailgate auto open never works when I have items in hand, but does when I just walk by accidentally.
What are you getting for fuel economy? My ‘20 does about 24 city, 33 highway but I noticed that I did get a nice 2-3 mpg bump after getting throttle body and PCV serviced
I wish I got over 30 on the highway. I get 30 under perfect highway situations. In town I get just over 20. My vehicle only has 44000 miles and I have never gotten good gas mileage.
I really love my 2021 outback which I bought in Australia. I know it’s a slightly different model to the US version but it’s pretty much identical except right hand Drive. I added a third-party wireless charger which sits in the vent in the middle of dash that works really well and it’s fast charger. I also purchased a third-party wireless Apple CarPlay plug-in which also works very well and finally I bought a third-party heads up display which are three of the things which we’re missing from my version of the outback.
nice video; LOVE my Subie Outback Wildnerness from 2022. AGREE with the hot/awkward charger station. Didn't recall even being asked about memory seats (my wife and I have SUCH DIFFERENT bodies, LOL).
I have a 2024 Onyx XT and love it. I do wish I had the seat memory. However, the Onyx XT comes with a full sized spare, which I wanted more. My primary reason in getting a new car was that I started doing road trips this year.
Every last thing that was mentioned, I would NOT have. Every last thing mentioned is something that will fail or cause parts to wear out prematurely. If I need to tow something, I tow it with my 3/4 ton 4wd 300 HP pickup truck, not with a small engine supercharged to work itself to death. There is a beauty in simplicity and minimalism.
I am on my 8th Subaru Outback (2024). White is okay for Florida because dark colors absorb the heat. You are correct about memory seats. Not convinced with the Turbo. For the most part we always found the standard motor works for us. Also, the Turbo might increase the possibility of breaking. We had a wireless charger but got rid of it for all the reasons you mentioned. I would also suggest getting a heated steering wheel. We also always get the winter package. Since you have charging ports in the rear, you can always do wire charging. You can use different cables so you can charge items with different connectors. We only use WAZE for navigation so didn’t have to take Tom Tom. One should always get side protective siding. We also avoid the moon roof because we did not want sun beating down on us. And, it is another feature that could break or leak.
We’ve considered a new vehicle over the last two months. One of my wives must have item is the memory seat and heated steering wheel. My daughter test drove a Subaru 3 years ago, but went with the Hyundai because it had turbo. So many choices, we’re looking for something with decent gas mileage.
I really love my 2025 Subaru outback Limited so comfortable to drive very little road noise and great gas mileage non-turbo and for the price point top notch
I don’t want a turbo. Higher maintenance costs and reliability issues. Color is always a tough call. I went white for neutrality however I do love some of the other colours more. Certain colours date the vehicle as well.
I have a 2019 Forester Touring. I wanted green, but all they had at the time was red and blue. My wife wanted the blue, but I took the red because it just came off the truck and only had 4 miles on it. I bought a wireless Android Auto adapter, but I don't really use it because I'd rather have my phone charging. I do wish the more powerful engine is available on the Forester, but turbos can add to reliability problems also. Overall, I really like the car. The biggest problem has been that it eats batteries. I finally bought an Odyssey battery and so far, so good. I do live in a very cold area. I never use the seat memory since I'm the only one that drives it. On the way back from the hospital once the drowsiness alert kept going off ever minute or so, and I'm not sure why, because I had recovered from my surgery and was looking and paying attention to the road. One of my favorite things is the adaptive cruise control. This is the first vehicle I've had with it.
I bought a lightly used 2023 Outback touring XT earlier this year. It did come with the wireless charger, and it's probably the most useless thing in the car. However, it seems as if that was installed at the New Jersey dock, as The wireless charger was on the window sticker, but all the parts from the original empty cubby were in the back of the car. I'm thinking about pulling out the wireless charger and throwing back in the cubbie to make it more useful. Mine was also white, and it looks really sharp and as you mentioned it's hard to keep clean. I was originally looking for a black or gray one. If I end up trading this one in for a 2025 or newer, I will definitely go back to looking for a gray or black color.
I have a 2025 outback touring XT and I have to say you are right on with the wireless charger. It gets way too hot. Doesn’t charge the phone very well. The center console is tiny because of the design, which is terrible. I do not like the eyesight in this year. I had a 2016 and it worked just fine this 2025 is way overzealous and has randomly applied the brakes on sharper corners when the cruise is engaged. The turbo is definitely the way to go if you want the power but longevity probably not 87 is not a proper fuel for a turbo model car. As for the memory seats, though that only works the mirrors if you don’t disable the driver monitoring once you do that, the car no longer recognizes you and no longer move the mirrors. You can only then move the seat with the buttons on the door.
I've got a '21 OB TXT and I love it. Granted I need to drive it more...just hit over 16K miles... But I wouldn't not consider a great trade-in deal for my OB on a '25 Forester Touring. :) The face recognition is touch and go...but I just open/shut my door another time or two, and it will recognize me instead of mistaking me for my husband (when my hair is pulled back)! LOL! Not big on the charging pad in my OB, connecting with the cord for Car Play works best for me (and yeah, charges better). The turbo is great on road trips...I love it. No towing, yet. On my 8 hour trip back from New Orleans, I was averaging 29 mpg so I'm very happy.
Personally, I’m happy that we didn’t go with the turbo. The 2.5 NA is plenty fast enough for a kid hauler. Reduced maintenance costs and better fuel economy are more important to me than performance; my days of trying to beat people at lights or pulling on cars to pass are well-behind me. Maybe that will change when I’m no longer hauling kids but for now the regular NA engine is perfect for what we’re using it for.
I would love if they would just include a faster processor in the head units. It’s so sluggish and faster processors for applications such as this just don’t cost that much more.
Alex, thanks for your advice when we bought our Outback Touring from you last year. We love all the added features and comfort. I'm glad we didn't get the wireless charging pad which you told us to avoid. As for the Turbo, I remember test driving the Turbo first with you and then the non-turbo. The Turbo was amazingly fast but I also was surprised how peppy the nortmally aspirated engine was. We ended up with the normally aspirated 2.5 L engine partly for cost and MPG too. We have rarely regretted it. It manages to merge onto freeways with no problem most of the time. We took it on a road trip to Maine and back and it performed great, giving us ~29-30 MPG average over the trip. This was with a car loaded with 2 people, 2 dogs and all our stuff. Only on a few instances, in hilly terrain did I wish for more acceleration. The one thing I don't like is the noise and drone under certain accelerations as the CVT tries to manage RPMs. It cause a slight slowing of acceleration on any gradual incline up, so I need to downshift with the paddles and step more on the gas which makes it buzz and drone. Subaru needs to program the CVT with a better throttle response. With that said, if we lived in mountainous terrain, I would have opted for the Turbo. Thank you again for all your informative videos!
Don’t be hard on yourselves. I traded my 2020 Autumn green Onyx XT in for my 2025 white Onyx XT just because of your videos. Yeah, memory seats are great, but we don’t switch drivers often enough to worry about it. The transmission shift position had changed by comparison, in my 2020 I was unable to remove my phone from the wireless charger while in park. Now, the 2025 doesn’t have that same issue.
We have a 2017 Outback with memory seat, however I can’t figure out to change the memory to a different setting, and our dealer can’t figure it out either. Also wish I had an option to automatically lock doors when car starts moving, as most other cars do. Finally I hear that turbos don’t last on all makes of cars, and wear out way before normal engines so beware of turbo. We love out Subarus! Thanks
I traded a 2011 Outback with the 6-cyl in on a new 2022 Outback Onyx XT. I probably wouldn't have traded had the XT turbo not been available. That year it was the only way the Onyx came. The XT has more horsepower and torque than the H6. If you like a spirited drive, the XT is the way to go. However, gas mileage is not as good as the H6. I get about 20mpg around town and upper 20s on the highway; once in a while it gets 30mpg. My old Outback would get around 30-31 consistently on the highway.
im from Melbourne Australia and a mth ago purchased a 2024 crosstrek 2.0ltr 'R' 2nd from the top in features it didn't come with memory seats inbuilt gps or factory sunroof but i dont mind android auto and i use waze , i was a ford buyer most of my life but im pretty sure im Subaru now and in the future . i watched all your videos in the week or so before i picked the car up and i found them very informative ,even tho the crosstreks sent to Australia are different trim levels to u.s.a , the memory seat for the driver would of been a nice addition
Subaru of America finally admitted that the wireless charger in my 2024 Limited doesn't actually work. They sent me over $350 in Subaru Bucks, which is about what I paid for it. I bought a $10 aftermarket charger, which works just fine in my Outback, except that, as you noted, there isn't much clearance in the factory charging slot. I removed the rubber map at the base of the charger slot, which frees up a bit more space. Lesson for my next Subaru purchase: make sure the wireless charger actually works, or insist they remove it.
2025 Forester Limited: I didn't realize it did not have the seat memory. My 2009 Sienna did as did my 2003 Chevy S10. I guess I assumed it was standard, especially on a car this expensive. Another thing I missed was the power folding mirrors. Not a big deal until I am driving on narrow streets with on-street parking. I can manually flip the driver's mirror but not the passenger and that's the one at risk. In my Forester, I tried using the wireless charger but found it worthless. I have it turned off as well. It charges just fine with the USB-C to USB-C charging.
I agree with the auto seat changer, it would be handy! We have a 2024 Forester Wilderness and wanted it but would have had to bump up to a different package to get it!$!$!
I have a 2023 Forester Sport, and I wish it had more internal storage cubbies. I plug in my phone and stick it in the one and only cubby in front of the shifter, but it's too long to go in there sideways, so it has to stick out. If I'm wearing a pair of curved sunglasses, they don't fit in the overhead storage area, so they sit on top of my phone and go sliding all over. The little storage "slot" between the cupholders and center console is pretty much useless for much besides holding some change. If I'm solo, most of the items just go on the passenger seat. If I have someone in the car with me, I tend to use the cupholders as storage. None of these options is optimal, sadly. A previous car I owned was a 2006 Honda Civic, and it had way more storage than the Forester, so I know it's possible to do when it has been done in a smaller vehicle.
My 2012 Impreza is fantastic. Interior looks new, body shows signs of wear since we live in western Pennsylvania. No BS technology crap. 144,000 miles.
Good review. The charger is probably the capability of what your phone will do? Remove the case maybe. There was a version of the memory seat that was programmed to your key fob. Facial recon is new to me. The cup holder in the rear seat is a very Poot design. It’s almost unusable. The fix? 1 make the seats thicker so the cup holder is deeper. They are very shallow so a large drink at the drive thru will roll out of it. Fix #2 way more practical, and an accordion type expander ( like a collapsible cup) to make it taller. My favorite is the turbo ( ours 2024 Outback Wilderness ) you start to pass a car on a 2 lane highway you hit the gas to gain speed to back at the back of the vehicle you are over taking then merge left. Be careful as the turbo will get you to the back of the car your passing way quicker. The turbo adds horsepower and I’m told the gearing is a bit = performance!!! The wilderness is sprung heavier that also allows 1 ground clearance.8 inches higher, 2 tow capacity increased. Therefore the ride is less plush than the other versions of the outback. I totaled a 2021 Crosstreck then got the Outback way, way better to me. One this I really don’t like , on the steering wheel the radio volume control button location. It’s a toggle at the bottom of the cluster runs horizontal. There is a paddle toggle dead center that controls the tiny display above the steering column these should be switch or trade places. Over all the Outback Wilderness is a very good fit for our family. Loving it
My mistake was not waiting to buy a 2024 Crosstrek to get the improved, more comfortable, seats. I do like the physical HVAC knobs but the 2023 seats are not as comfortable as those in the 2024. Still really like my Crosstrek though.
I wish the intermittent windshield wiper adjustment knob was opposite than it is. Every car I’ve ever had adjusts the opposite direction. Also I hate the heated seats adjustment button it always starts with max power rather than setting it up from base power.
They should have a recall on those chargers and there is absolutely NO place to put anything. Deal breaker for me if I had paid attention to that. Love my 23 OBW. But it is so frustrating there is no place to even set your cellphone. That charger station is useless!
The electric seats are a real pain in the ass for me. My wife is 5’1” and I’m 6’5” so it takes at least 20 seconds of adjustment each time for starters then 4 or 5 more adjustments when underway. I think manual seats would easier and quicker. (Plus no expensive motors to burn out down the road. )
A couple of things, my 2025 doesn’t have the charging pad but using a usb stick to play music, my phone barely fits under it. So if it had less space it really wouldn’t matter. Also I considered the turbo but I’m glad I didn’t. The turbo likely would have got about the same mileage aw the full size pickup I traded in, it’s a pretty significant difference in fuel economy. Also it’s the turbo engines that have been having all sorts of problems. The base engine isn’t too awful, still faster than my old truck at least.
@@alexpmo No I haven't. Thanks, I will do it.
Door trim? Really?
You a car salesman?
How much they charge for those $1 pieces of plastic?
You are not alone my friend many people out there like simplify vehicle with out all the electronic garbage that we don't need.👏👏👏👏👏
I have the 2024 option 15 no turbo and I get 30 to 32 mpg most of the time but I set the cruse at 60 mph most of the time .
I live in the hills of East Texas . But I am retired and drive my age so every mile counts on my income . Have a blessed day .
For best fuel economy get a Toyota.
Thanks Ron! Glad to hear you’re enjoying your Forester!
Love my 23 Wilderness but hate the Geyser blue paint.
Alex in 2020 I purchased a Subaru Outback Touring XT. I wanted the 2.5ltr turbo engine because I travel back and forth from AZ to CA for business purposes. Since 2019 (Nov. 1st), my car's odometer reads just over 46,380 miles. Except for two replaced windshields and a
gas cap cover "rubber spring", the car has performed as expected. Ken
You have way too much free time. Spare us your dissertation. No one wants to read a long, babbling post.
@@sjs1555 I apologize for it's length. I was asked by a new 2025 Outback XT Touring to list my accessories - again apologize for the length.
My Android gets super hot on our wireless pad in our Ascent
If you love turbo Toyota as your option watch lots of Tacoma customers have problem with.lol😅
Cheers, Michael Albuquerque NM USA,
PS I must admit while Onyx and Wilderness trims each have their niche and are definitely cool, I really enjoy looking at my Forester from the front and side with its clean uninterrupted lines!
I love, love my memory seat settings. 2020 Outback Limited. I trusted my salesman to suggest my options package. He did very well.
I see Alex trading in his Outback for a newer one with the options and a different color in the future.
On my 22 forester sport I wish I had
Memory seats, heated steering wheel, latches that fold seats down in trunk. Wish it had good built in GPS maps too.
Glad I got the blue floor lighting and hitch and many many extras.
I bought a 23 Forester Touring and put in a wireless charging pad myself for around $100. I love the manual climate controls and the 8 inch display is fine. Love the car!
The crystal black silica is the coolest color of all the Subarus! Love it on our 2025 Outback Tourting XT.
Yep! Best color!
Subaru of America finally admitted that the wireless charger in my 2024 Limited doesn't actually work. They sent me over $350 in Subaru Bucks.
@ great. I’ll give it a try. Thanks
I’ve now had one crosstie and two outbacks, all three white. Best visibility so maximizing safety! I did really like the green that was only available on the crosstrek hybrid for a minute, but it wasn’t worth the money, torque and spare tire.
I LOVE WHITE TOO, especially more visible at night
We have a 24 outback w turbo . A couple things; I don’t like is the touchscreens ability to cast from our iPhones. If I am able to call up maps, it is a hassle changing to work from my husbands iPhone.
We never wanted the sunroof, but it came with it.
Sad you had to pay for something you don't want. Next time consider a Toyota.
Thanks! You do a really nice job with these videos Alex! Cheers, Michael Albuquerque NM USA
Thank you! 😊
75000 miles on our ‘22 Outback Premium.. We love it !!
I love white onyx edition , cause its more visible at night. I have many experience about dark car turning at night almost crash it.
Thanks for sharing, Alex. Your insights and videos are really helpful and informative. Keep it up Subarumate ;)
You're welcome! And thanks for the support!
I love my 2021 Outback Touring,,, I do agree about temp control you have to totally look away from driving.
Can you use the voice command for temp control?
Just got a 2024 forester wilderness. Best suv ever❤.
The INFOTAINMENT screen and CLIMATE CONTROLS ARE BRUTAL!!!!!!
🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬
Very happy overall with a green touring xt, brown leather
Could not agree with you more !
owning outback and pick up?? where's the minimalism?? do agree pickups are for towing while outback for traveling
8th? They must not be good if you replace them so often.
I bought 1 Volvo 240 35 years ago and it still runs fine.
Bought a 2025 outback limited in July. Kept going back and forth on getting the xt , ended up getting the limited, so far it's been great.
I have Japanese 2022 Subaru Outback x-break, I have driver's seat memory for 2 passengers, Harman/Kardon music with subwoofer in the trunk.
Doesn’t every color get boring? White is classy and timeless. Your car looks great!!
I had a 2.5 Forester change it to a 2.0 crosstreck,it’s quicker and sounds good,I like it.
I drive campy and smoothly, but turbo would be nice on motorways or in the mountains.
Saying that, NA engines are easier to maintain 😂
I've got a '21 OB TXT and I love it. Granted I need to drive it more...just hit over 16K miles... But I wouldn't not consider a great trade-in deal for my OB on a '25 Forester Touring. :)
The face recognition is touch and go...but I just open/shut my door another time or two, and it will recognize me instead of mistaking me for my husband (when my hair is pulled back)!
45 yrs old, I don't need speedy feeling, just want to enjoy the trip with family :)
💯 spot on. Had several outback of different trims and agree with you totally. Just post the extra up front and be happy with it.
Thanks
Thank you for sharing the video!! Love your channel! Keep sharing!!Thank you!!
Thanks for the support!
Lesson for my next Subaru purchase: make sure the wireless charger actually works, or insist they remove it.
we have a 2016 got it new and still love it and yes we have put 220k on it with no engine problems and still going!
Curious if you ever serviced the CVT?
Going for my 2025 outback tomorrow……no turbo though. Not my cup of tea. Going with cosmic blue. Touring ❤️🌵 Thanks Alex. Your videos are awesome.
I find the non turbo to have plenty of power. I bought the exact car you have and completely happy.
Loving it
I have a 23 Limited, you are dead on!
White looks best with mud on it :)
yeah!!!
When will Subaru take these complaints and observations to heart and make the changes??
Hopefully for the 2026 redesign.
We totally agree with you about the wireless charging pad. Would have rather gotten the rear view mirror with the home link instead.
Appreciate ya Brother 👍🏾
My mistake was not waiting to buy a 2024 Crosstrek to get the improved, more comfortable, seats. I do like the physical HVAC knobs but the 2023 seats are not as comfortable as those in the 2024. Still really like my Crosstrek though.
I wish the intermittent windshield wiper adjustment knob was opposite than it is. Every car I’ve ever had adjusts the opposite direction. Also I hate the heated seats adjustment button it always starts with max power rather than setting it up from base power.
I absolutely love the turbo charged engine in my Outback!!
I only get 22mpg in my 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness…
I love the white!! I got a silver one.
Not far from mine! 🤣
Agreed about the charging pad. Mine doesn't hardly charge the phone at all. It's not worth the money.
They should have a recall on those chargers and there is absolutely NO place to put anything. Deal breaker for me if I had paid attention to that. Love my 23 OBW. But it is so frustrating there is no place to even set your cellphone. That charger station is useless!
Agreed! I'd like to rip mine out lol
Buy a charging pad and put it on the passenger little shelf thing in the dash. 😉
Subaru of America finally admitted that the wireless charger in my 2024 Limited doesn't actually work. They sent me over $350 in Subaru Bucks
Very useful video. Thanks.
I bought my 2023 outback 2 months ago. I wish it had mirrors that fold in.
