After a week with the 4a, I honestly can't imagine ever shelling out for another flagship, as long as companies keep making phones this good for the midrange market. The 4a does exactly what I need it to do with minimal frills and no fuss, and at an unbeatable price. The camera is a marvel of software and processing - it's actually a challenge to take a bad picture with it. I don't really notice the lack of superwide or telephoto lenses - the 4a's standard focal length is plenty wide enough for my day-to-day photo taking, and it does just fine with close-ups. I also don't miss wireless charging - it's neat, but not a deal-breaker for me. Not sure how the 4a's lack of water resistance will play out over time, but my phones are never around water anyway (I'm paranoid, even with IP-rated phones). The clean, minimal Android interface and integration with Google services makes setup a breeze - less than 10 minutes out of the box and I was good to go. Basically this phone is a treat, and I can't recommend it highly enough for people who want a user-friendly phone with a shockingly good camera that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
I think he meant the animation speed because while he was doing that there was 0 lag. I always turn down the animation time to .5 because it just makes things take less time. But some like those animations. It's all personal preference.
Also since he himself said he just came down from top flagship phones, I guess his eyes are still accustomed to 90hz or 120hz displays. Along with that ,maybe the animation speeds on pixel are slower which can always be changed.
If its similar to the 3a os, it does feel clunky. In my experience apps do open fast but switching between apps or from lockscreen to an app can be bad. Something about notifications is off too
@@spreak2623 I have a 4a, and it's not like the 3a... and it has nothing to do with the OS, and had everything to do with the hard drive that was in the 3a. My 4a feels snappy and hasn't had any issues opening apps or unloading them.
It's probably comparing to the flagships. I mean I'm using a mid-ranger from 3 years ago as my daily driver so I'd probably find it a huge upgrade, but for MKBHD it's just... okay.
@@officialhideyo Well Motorola has been sold to Lenovo since, Blu is not good enough lets be real, and Pixel phones always seemed to lack that something before. The 4a finally seems to deliver everything you could ask for at $349.
Proud Pixel 4a owner here. I genuinely do not understand how someone could buy an iPhone SE over this. There's no IP rating or wireless charger, but the iPhone SE also has an ancient screen from 2010 who cares if it has the latest apple chip.
I've had mine for a couple weeks. Big fan of the incredible battery life compared to my Pixel 3, the headphone jack, the uniform bezels, and so on. I sort of miss the wide-angle selfie lens, even though I didn't use it very often, because when I did it was incredibly useful. Otherwise, I am very happy with my purchase thus far. Gesture navigation has become very easy to use, the stereo speaker is pretty good (not as good as the Pixel 3, but good enough that I don't mind using it), and the camera is always the star of the Pixel show.
"The performance isn't that great" *Me about to switch from a Samsung J3 Star (Exynos 7570) to this phone:* "Wait, smartphones run at more than 20fps?" Not joking, my current phone (Samsung J3 Star) takes 8 seconds to load TH-cam, and starts lagging when you scroll through the app drawer. It runs Minecraft at about 15fps on the lowest render distance. Edit: First of all, I was seriously not expecting all the replies to this. And second, I can't buy the OnePlus Nord because I live in the U.S. but I would've preferred the performance of it over the cameras, and I'm not going to buy the iPhone SE because it looks outdated, has bad battery life, and because I greatly prefer Android to iOS. Also, I can't afford any of the Flagship phones since most of them are at least $1000
Update as of April 6th 2022, still rocking the 4a (got it a month after it came out) and can confirm it still runs just like it did when I first got it. No major problems thus far and still a solid experience on Android 12.

Technology keeps going, everything has evolved. Using an old Note device might suit you, but you're actually heavily outdated and you can't run most of the new games and apps out there. And you of course you won't know anything about those features as long as you haven't tried them, and I highly doubt you can revert back to your Note after using something as simple as this Pixel 4a, all you're gonna miss is your pen if we're talking about an actual Note.
WE just need a good battery, a good camera and a good software that's it.

"it's kinda forgettable" is why I love my pixel 3. I don't think about it, I love the stock Android no bloat etc.
Yup same
Bingo
I have the 3a also. Love it
The Google app hiding in the background is the bloatware. Much better to use LineageOS.
Yup, just works and does what I need it to do with no fuss.
What about battery life ?

"The phone just doesnt feel fast..."
He says as he whips around the OS showing the dozens of apps open....come on.
And after that just casually shows how fukin smooth the UI and UX is :D this guy sometimes I swear....

Probably with opening apps. Sliding through the homescreen isn't really that intensive performance wise.
It's probably comparing to the flagships. I mean I'm using a mid-ranger from 3 years ago as my daily driver so I'd probably find it a huge upgrade, but for MKBHD it's just... okay.
