    One-eyed Jacks is ALSO one of my favorite Marlon Brando flicks. A late 1950s classic western also starring Karl Malden.

    Marlon Brando defined what actors now call acting. He wasn't afraid to bare his soul on camera and just let loose. His style of training albeit only a year, was the actor is in charge of his or her performance. He felt learning lines of dialogue was to redundant and hindered the actors ability to give a natural, realistic, performance. Unfortunately, his disdain for the show "business" side of it all ruined his desire for acting. He used & often abused the very system that he felt used & abused not only him, but that of how minorities are portrayed on film. He was woke decades before it was a thing. Like most in show business, he developed a "brat-like" attitude towards filmmakers, co-stars, & producers. He could have been an inspiration for generations to come but understand he didn't think of acting, or as he called it lying, as a respected trade for an adult male.
    He hated talking about his movies and felt the time should be spent discussing treatment of minorities in Hollywood.

    • @MrDaiseymay
      @MrDaiseymay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He should have spent an equal amount of time righting the wrongs and for the huge debre he left behind him in his professional and personal life. His family's destruction has no equal. Including many sexual affairs with Male Hollywood stars.

      I once heard a speech by Tippi Hedren in which she talked about how much of a jerk he was on the set of A Countess in Hong Kong. The director Charles Chaplin had to threaten him with legal action to shut him up.

    • @barcelonachair6487
      @barcelonachair6487 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't understand the times he started in film and if someone didn't speak up change wouldn't happen and a light wouldn't have been shown in that industry. He wasn't woke, as you call it, he was trying to achieve civil rights for his fellow actors that were not allowed to drink at the same water fountain as him or eat a meal with him. It was a time when Pima Indian stories in a film called 'The Outsider' were told by white actors in dark makeup such as Tony Curtis for just one example ( an excellent btw). Don't put today's thinking on history. Brando was a revolutionary in acting and as a humanitarian and of course his white co-workers would think he was a nuisance back then, he didn't follow his racial protocol and beliefs but because of him method acting is the standard and Hollywood has opened doors for minorities. There are no actors now who would do what he did.

    When I saw Brando in One-Eyed Jacks at 14 years old, I walked home from the theater almost in a trance. I had seen many movies and good actors before, but I had never seen a performance like he gave in that movie. I went to see all the movies he made before Jacks (which he also directed). I won't say much more except that your video left out other great movies and performances: his first time on film, The Men; Viva Zapata! should be in the top 10; Teahouse of the August Moon; The Young Lions, where he plays a WWII German officer, German accent accent and all, and Free Money,
    in which he uses a Swedish accent. The most brilliant American actor of all time!!! 🤣

      Brando’s Sky Masterson’s “Luck Be A Lady” in Guys and Dolls is a performing art of the highest caliber, arousing waves of contrasting pathos of hope and fear and vulnerability as he covered bets on the ground in the most mesmerizing masculine song-and-dance of controlled aggression.
      Never has there been anything like it on film, a tough guy’s heartbreaking fight for the love of his life, with heart and wallet laid on the line, riding on a single roll of the dice.
      That, and the fact that he’s the ultimate eye candy, singing and dancing and romancing the lovely Jean Simmons, should catapult “Guys and Dolls” to #1 of Brando’s greatest movies.

      So many put “ The Godfather” on their list. There were others who auditioned for the role. The producers were skeptical with Brando. His age and his difficulty to work with certain directors. But Francis Ford Coppola insisted on Brando. He stated this : I don’t even have to Audition him. He IS the GODFATHER. Without him, I won’t direct to movie. Coppola got his Brando. Another conflict was James Caan who wanted the role of Michael. But after auditioning Al Pacino just once, the role went to Pacino and Caan came in second with the role of Sonny.

    • @JmadiRN
      @JmadiRN ปีที่แล้ว

      Many felt Michael and Brando should had been nominated for Best actor. Brando won of course but refused the Award. Pacino was nominated for Best actor in Godfather 2. He lost to Art Carney for some unknown movie. Which was a travesty. They gave it to Carney for sentimental reasons. He was old and probably would never be nominated again. He wasn’t. Pacino was young with other chances to win. He did with Scent of a Woman “. Which in my opinion was no where near the caliber of The Godfather status.
      ( been reading a lot about this film I never knew. Lots of books out there about it due to its 50th year Anniversary).

    I think Marlon Brando is one of the most over rated actors ever. I just don't see why people think he's one of the best actors. he's just not believable in his roles IMO. Maybe bc he comes from an era where acting was "over acted" and overly dramatic, which is why i dont like old movies from anytime before the 70's, mainly the 80's. I just never saw what the big deal was with him, like, at all. I think he was pretty good in Apocalypse Now and The Godfather, thats mainly it for me.
