I knew about these abuses in the '90s when I befriended Iranians who had fled Iran. I couldn't get my head around how their government would just kill their family members because they naturally wanted their freedom. They had done no wrong... Why don't the world leaders talk about this? To (young) Raza who I met in Heidelberg, I hope you didn't go back there when you were no longer allowed to stay. I hope you went on to live a much happier life despite the murders of your family. I was too young to know what to say. I have thought of you over the years, wishing you well.
