Imagine if Martinsville was the final race of the year. That’s Jeff’s best track. NASCAR creates the chase to hurt guys like Gordon. The final race happens to be on a mile and a half track.
@@furbyboy24 He threw 96 away as well with some bad luck. Not to mention 2009, where he was leading in points through almost the first half of the season. He won at every track (until they added Ky at the end) he dominated at every type of race track. Most versatile NASCAR driver ever.
The end of an era really, I grew up, now 29, a jeff gordon fan, my sport jerseys in high school and college were 24, now I don't even watch NASCAR anymore...sad to say, I miss these moments.
Yeah, I'll miss these too, I'm just happy he retired a winner unlike Rusty Wallace, I was praying so hard for him to win at least once in his final year and then...here it was.
Forever grateful for Matt Kenseth gifting us the lead. I shed a few tears when he crossed that start finish line. The sunset and lack of lights at the track made it an absolutely cinematic experience to watch on TV!
It was awesome! We went crazy when Kenseth drilled Logano! The whole crowd was on fire! Best race I've ever attended, ending in the dark before they had lights, was so cool to watch the rotors light up at night. Just a really great experience!
I was born Halloween in `72 and i remember as a kid my Family would ride around in the country and as we drove would listen to Nascar. My Uncle was a Pearson/Cale fan and my Dad was a big 43 Petty fan so i was a Petty fan,but i never really really got truly into Nascar until about late `93 and Gordon was who i picked as my driver. I was a diehard fan 4lyfe when Gordon won his 2nd career race @ the Inaugural Brickyard 400. Honestly, looking back....that's when i really became a true Nascar and Gordon fan. It was an Awesome ride. Now, I'm a Elliot fan,i like Blaney too,but Larson is soo fun to watch, and hope to see him back in a Cup ride soon.👍✌
Jeff. Drove. The. Shit out of the that Chevy. Favorite driver from childhood. Love you #24!!! I used to hear you race from my bed at Atlanta motor speedway at night as a child.
I've been a Gordon fan for 20 years, and was on a cruise during that race, when someone saw my Gordon hat, and came over to tell me he won that race, I did pretty much the same thing Jeff did at 1:10, lol
Yeah I about sobbed when I got a text from a friend telling me he'd pulled it off; I was just relieved because after this nightmare of a season I found myself begging Jeff not to retire winless the way Rusty did.
I'm glad he did't. I actually went to the spring Martinsville race in 2015, Jeff was leading and lost it with a speeding penalty with about 50 to go, I was pissed, lol
sprintcarfan12 2015 was a lot like 2005 if you think about it; dominant on short and restrictor plate tracks and sucked everywhere else. Only difference was instead of getting the 4 wins in '15 he should have he gave them away with pit road penalties.
I watched that race on TV it was freaking amazing. Jeff lost several at Martinsville over the years. One that really bugged me was when the track came apart and a chunk went through his radiator ending his day. The other was in 2007 when he didn't press Jimmie hard enough for that win. His car was awesome, Jimmie was junk in practice. They put Jeff's setup on the car and Jimmie was a rocket.
Great videos. Easily the GOAT.. 4 Championships, robbed of at least 4 others. (2003, 2004, 2007, 2014). 93 wins easily could have been 100+. Never seen a driver this good, don't think we ever will. Keep up the great job on these videos. We forget 93 wins, it's the all-time in the modern era.
I'm glad he was able to take advantage of two chaotic situations and snag the win away. I really was worried he was going to finish winless the way Rusty did. All I wanted was for him to go out a winner, I cried as he crossed the line.
Jeff was always my favorite driver. This will always be my favorite win out of all 93. And for 2016 I gotta say part of me roots for Matt Kenseth every once in awhile because he put the little prick Logano in the wall which gave Jeff the best car
actually that's called racing luck. It has to be on your side and I think if that punk didn't get put in the wall where he belonged, he probably would have won the race. I personally don't think Jeff had the best car or even a car capable of winning. That changed in about 5 seconds and I would like to shake Matt's hand if I ever meet him in person. I hate Logano he is a rude little punk that needs his ass kicked.
No matter how many times I watch this video, I always cry a little after Jeff climbs out of the car. Knowing it was probably his last win in that moment, knowing he had a chance to win that elusive 5th title, just a perfect moment
Pause it at 4:16 , Such a great shot with Leo just in the back ground. Makes you wonder if we will in-fact see another Gordon behind the wheel in the future.
Could very well be since his is in them quarter midget cars already at age 7 right now and last I heard he finished 2nd in one of them races recently. But first Nascar in a whole has to survive as the seats are becoming more empty each race and seeing less sponsors on the cars too
I remember watching little jeff race at eastbay raceway in florida i started being a fan when he drove the babyruth car in bush series. It's bin a long road jeff i have stayed a loyal fan. Thanks for the great time's you will be missed.
Such a great win by Jeff Gordon and his pit crew! It was so awesome to see Gordon get a win like this in his final season driving. Too bad he got robbed of his fifth championship after he was purposely spun out at homestead.. was such a dirty move. Gordon handled it with class though. Def one of the top drivers of all time and my hands down favorite. I grew up watching Jeff Gordon and he’ll forever be my favorite driver. I hope William Byron can bring the #24 car even more wins for years to come!!
This event would not only prove to be Jeff Gordon's 93rd and final career win It would also end up being his 325th and final Top 5 finish of his entire career
Cannot wait until this happens again on sunday. There is no doubt in my mind that Jeff and the #88 team can go there and get the job done, get the victory, and get win #94 this Sunday. Yeah it's a different car, different car number, different crew chief, and different team but I don't think honestly that the track has changed that much over 1 year to where Jeff can't contend and not win. I think that's why Jeff has had so much success there over 23-24 years. Martinsville is a track where the old car setup's work, the track is still the same, asphalt/concrete surface. So i really think that Jeff can and maybe will be a contender here Sunday. It all begins tomorrow. LET'S GO JEFF! Team JG #24. 🏁
He was being a team player even after he said he was done. That is what a good team mate does. I think the thing Hendrick did that screwed Jeff was he moved the 48/88 together and the 5/24. He should have left them together because that is how it was originally setup. Jeff was a lot more successful with the two shops together. The reason Jimmie was so successful right at the forming of the 48 is because they gave him half of Jeff's cars from 2001 champion season. Also, when they did a crew swap that was a bad idea I think they should have left Jeff and Jimmie's crews the way they were.
Yeah, it's amazing how much one's skills can deteriorate in such a short time. Also I remember Ray Evernham in an interview saying he wasn't happy with them asking Jeff to drive the 88 because he knew that team was crap and he couldn't stand watching Jeff race again knowing he'd perform at a mediocre level. Funny thing is during the races he was there he actually enjoyed better stats than every other HMS driver.
I was amazed frankly that he came away with a 6th place finish. The 88 Team was really awful that year so it was a miracle that Jeff actually came away with two top-tens, three likely if his belts hadn't come undone at Pocono.
I think one of the greatest win of all time was jeff Gordon's final race the only thing I think that would have made it better is if they brought back his rainbow paint job for the rainbow warriors last stand.
Not sure who knows this ... JJ is great driver, but all his titles are with the BS Chase format. Petty and Earnhardt won titles with old system. If they never changed, Gordon would have 7 titles.... The G.O.A.T.....Jeff Gordon
Man that gave me chills when Jeff won he was on fire!!!! So glad that Jimmie came to congratulate him what a teammate. Also thank you Matt Kenneth for wrecking that idiot Logano
I don't think it's a bad choice. Jimmie Johnson is a great race car driver. Most people hate because he has won championships in the chase era. What people fail to realize is that it fits his style of how he races. The chase never fit Jeff Gordon and he said it on many occasions. At least the eliminations gave him a legitimate shot before he retired. Personally, I think people hate the chase more than they do Jimmie Johnson. Seriously, he wouldn't have as many wins as he does if he wasn't a great driver. Besides, he has won 10 times at several tracks. That is something not many drivers can say. Actually, there are no active drivers that can say that since Jeff retired in 2015. Jeff will always be in my mind an 8 time champion. 1996 got away from him and I think that would have been 4 in a row for him has he not has a problem at Charlotte while leading the race. he had a nice lead going in and came out with a 1 point lead thanks to Terry winning the race. I think the chase sucks and needs to be removed, racing is not stick and ball there should not be a playoff. Also, I truly believe if Jimmie keeps racing he will pass Jeff Gordon on the all time wins list. He isn't far behind. I think he just tied with Cale Yarborough or DW. Will I hate if he passes Jeff like when Jeff passed Dale? Hell no. If anyone can win with the level of competition out there in current cars, then they deserve the credit that they earned on the track. Like Jeff Gordon said in 1995 after his first championship, Actions speak louder than words. Boo him, cheer him go ahead do it. If you truly hate you will be silent. Dale Earnhardt told Jeff Gordon that back when he was getting boos at driver intros. Silence is like the kiss of death.
Jeff was my favorite driver of all time! I will say that I was not a fan of the 1/2 mile tracks which to me were a joke! You put your foot on the gas pedal and two seconds later you are slowing down for the next turn! RIDICULOUS! I didn’t enjoy any race that was less than a mile around...............sorry Martinsville!
Final win of the greatest driver ever to drive in modern NASCAR. 7 time champion Jeff Gordon.
