    I was never ashamed to be a fan of the #24, even in 96 but I was 16 and exactly what the old timers disliked, but we weren't wrong about him, and he's long since proved himself to be amongst the best drivers of all time. I'm so damned proud and happy for him. 24ever

    I started watching NASCAR as a kid sometime around 95 or 96. I don't remember why but I quickly decided he was my favourite driver, followed him through to the end.
    It was sad to watch the guy I was a fan of for 20 years walk away, but on the other hand it was good to see him walk away competing for the championship rather than ride it out spending years as a 30th place car like so many other once great drivers did.

    I've heard it said that back in the day, you couldn't be both a Gordon and an Earnhardt fan, but look at their mutual respect for each other! How can you NOT be a fan of both? I was definitely more Gordon fan when I was younger, but always respected the elder statesman that was Dale.

    This is so sad to see. A true legend that only made Nascar bigger. Jeff was the one to take a southern sport and turn it into a National Event. I thought when I watched this race it would be the last Nascar race I would ever watch. Jeff Retired 2015 3rd in points, he still had and still has it. It was tough for him to get out of that #24 for the final time. We for almost 22 years watched in amazement the way this man could drive a racecar. Then due to an injury to Dale Jr, they called a legend to get in the seat on one of the hottest racedays of the year and drive Indy. That was the first race I saw all year when Jeff Retired I retired from watching Nascar, I only ever routed for the man in that #24 car. Then to see him drive this year was amazing, you can tell Jeff still has it and he wants to race. If he had truly retired he would have not gotten in the #88 car. Who could blame him if he said no? The man has a passion for the sport. I think it is his pushy wife that made him retire. I just don't understand why you would ask a man to give up what he loves and was still one of the best at? You can tell Jeff wants back into a car. He retired 5 years to soon. Comback Jeff, I don't care what # you drive or even what Brand but comeback. Hendrick Motorsports fire Kasey Khane put Jeff back in the #24 and Chase in the #5 car or #9 car like his dad.

    • @jeffgordonedits1258
      @jeffgordonedits1258  8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Amen, couldn't agree more with everything you said here. Something shady went down to get him out of the #24...I mean he was saying things in 2014 that he'd found the fountain of youth, that he felt great, he was having fun racing again. He then goes from saying all of those things to announcing his retirement? Yeah, something is REALLY wrong there.

      He had nothing left to prove. If it wasn’t for the change of the chase, he would be a 7 time champion tying Dale and Richard. He won at every track except one.
      I tell you another reason, because racing puts a strain upon a family. His priorities changed once he became aged.
      He wanted to explore new things in racing, like the booth and possibly taking over for Hendrick.
      Jeff already owns the 48 and I’m pretty sure he will eventually own the 24 and the 9.
      Jeff ain’t through putting his mark on Nascar.

    • @Stunnedstudios
      @Stunnedstudios 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same. I know he had at least like 4 more years left in him. However he has been flirting with retirement years before that. I also think he knew that he wasn't gonna be able to be a championship contender anymore because of him getting older, so I think he decided to end on a good note when he was still winning races and making the playoffs. Jimmie Johnson is kinda going through the "washed up" phase now

It’s just not interesting like it used to be. The drivers aren’t aggressive and so many regulations just don’t make it competitive like it used to be. Jeff shouldn’t have retired. I would’ve loved to see him become a crew chief and own the 24. He had a bunch of potential to become a good leader. I hated Gordon but when he got his final win at Martinsville I was at home watching it and the last 5 laps I was on my feet screaming go Gordon go and I told my fiance this is one time Jr is in third and I do not want to see him win. Growing up watching Gordon race the whole time I knew how special a win at Martinsville would be for him. I was glad when they got to homestead and in his final race he had a chance to go out a champion.

      Same here man. Honestly I might of only watched 4 or 5 races the year after Gordon retired. That was rough. Then idk Chase really sold me with that old school new school racing and persona.

    I might be biased as a #24 fan, but since he retired, there STILL hasn't been anyone that has come close to filling the void he left behind. With NASCAR seemingly declining in popularity, Jeff Gordon may have taken the fans with him when he left. I don't know if NASCAR will ever be the same.

    I remember When Petty ran his last race. I wasn't sure where to put my support, who to cheer for. I had been cheering for the guy since I was 15teen in 1979. When I decided to put my support behind Petty Racing and driver Mark Martin, I felt I was set in my weekend routine. Then Jeff Gordon showed up. He gave me something I never really had before in racing, someone to root against. I really enjoyed "hating" a team like I hated the Yankees. it was a silly thing really, but made the sport more fun to watch. I remember when Earnhardt, Martin and Gordon were few points apart for the championship....Gordon won it, and my "hate" was confirmed...lol. But life has a way of evolving and life has a way of changing what you believe. The Yankees drafted a kid I helped coached in little league, Aaron Judge, *sigh*. My team, The Oakland A's drafted him out of high school...I was so ecstatic.....but he went to college and was up for the draft again....no Oakland. My hate for the Bronx Bombers came to and end. I was sad to see Jeff Gordon retire, but glad I had seen his career begging to end....it reminds me again, that everything is what it is, but only for a moment. Thank you 24.

    Jeffs my favorite driver, and I know he had at least like 4 more years left in him. However he has been flirting with retirement years before that. I also think he knew that he wasn't gonna be able to be a championship contender anymore because of him getting older, so I think he decided to end on a good note when he was still winning races and making the playoffs. Jimmie Johnson is kinda going through the "washed up" phase right now

      I watched his last race on tv. I got so upset seeing him step out the car for one last time. You could tell he didn’t want to. NASCAR just hasn’t been the same since. It still feels weird not seeing the 24 out there. I would’ve loved to see Jeff become a crew chief or have his own team and hire a young talented driver to take over his car. That’s the route he should’ve done. He still had it in him, maybe not to drive but he still had the leadership and talent to lead others to victories under his own team. The chance to give younger drivers a chance at becoming a great just like him. That would’ve been so awesome to see.

    No one in the history of NASCAR has ever came in and changed the face of the sport. Im certain there will be many to disagree with me on this. However if not for the way the points system was changed. Jeff would have 7 championships. And possibly 8. Passing Richard Petty and the late great Dale Earnhardt. Imagine how many times he had a large point lead with 10 laps to go. But because he only had 1 or 2 wins. To go from a large lead(points). Just to go outside the top 5. And trailing by 50 points. To me. He is the G.O.A.T. I have lost a lot of interest in racing after Homestead 2015. I pull for Chase Elliott now. Only because he is driving the former #24 now the #9. I miss you super G.

    • @chromediesel444

      Could of been happier with the older Chase format like Stewart vs Edwards in 2011. If that format was effective in 2015 plus the bonus point for pole win (like what arca has), Jeff Gordon could of been the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup series CHAMPION.
