Didn't matter who the crew chief was, didn't matter the team, this guy just flat out knew how to drive a race car. If it wasn't for back luck, he'd easily have 100 Cup series wins.
Funny, but also back then the restarts were lead lap cars in 1 lane, lap cars in the next. A lot easier to get a good restart when 2nd place is behind you and the car next to you is someone you've lapped previously.
V-6s lol sound like bumble bee exhaust I remember when the Busch series used to run those now the Xfinity series and the Goodys Dash series used em. I think that would be cool to go back to that since most cars dont use V-8 anymore and I think they should stay V-8 in the cup series but V-6 in Xfinty series would be cool and give it something unique
That first career won changed his life FOREVER, really wish I could find a copy of the entire race so I could see for myself just how out of control his car was on TV.
Jeff didn't ever run many Busch races after getting the 24 ride but it was always a special race when he did I recall. I always wanted to see him in more Busch races like Kyle Busch or Mark Martin or Kevin Harvick did but he wasn't ever interested apparently?
Jared Kinney Jr He was focused solely on his cup car. That's why he was so dominant. Unlike the cats you just mentioned that's why they aren't as dominant and always had bad runs. They never focused on the cup cars production like he did.
@@jeffgordonedits1258 I've looked everywhere....it was taped and broadcast because I remember vividly watching it and thinking what a great driver Jeff was....I had been following him since Thursday night Thunder ( later it was Saturday night Thunder ) and I also remember it vividly because that was when I switched from Bill Elliott to Jeff Gordon....I wonder if I could contact Jeff directly or through Hendricks to see if either had it.

Weirder that he spent the entirety of his Winston Cup series driving for Chevy in that most guys that race as long as him end up racing for multiple manufacturers.
2 things that was great in the 70s Jeff Gordon came into the picture of NASCAR an the twin towers were built. the 2 terrible sad things now Jeff Gordon retired and the twin towers are gone.......
Well he had to after Jeff left for HMS. Bill wanted Jeff badly, but for some reason hadn't signed him to a contract so Rick jumped at the chance and snagged him first.
Good thing too. Imagine Jeff in the 22 instead of the 24. Would have been a waste of Jeff's talent. He still would have been successful enough on talent alone, but no way the 22 would have won 4 cups and 95 races.
He wasn’t Gordon, but in hindsight, Bobby wasn’t exactly a backmarker. 21 career wins, and was the first driver to ever win both a Cup and a Busch/Xfinity title. Bobby was a pretty good consolation prize.
0:00 Atlanta 300

Jeff Gordon Edits and at the same weekend of his final win at his final start...he had won the championship
was all the wins in 92 or 92/93
Something so soothing about watching these old NASCAR races from the early 90’s and hearing those names. Reminds me of my youth and simpler times.
"He may be the Intimidator but hes not intimidating Jeff Gordon the least little bit"
True Story.
They became good friends after that.

You know bill Davis is kicking him self in the ass for letting Gordon slip out of his hands
Jeff is always #1
aaskeww hell yeah!! Just wished he was still racing....
On the Wikapidea it said last year Jeff might come back. I can’t wait
thomas benson may not have to wait any longer
20 years later they were racing each other.
Been looking for the 1992 Busch series Atlanta 300 for 25 years and STILL can't find it?????
Sadly no...
@@jeffgordonedits1258 bummer
I read through this comment section and disappointed no one pointed out he was drinking Hawaiian Punch out of a can at 4:38. That was hilarious 😂
Phoenix and Homestead two tracks that took home forever to win in cup but easily in Busch 😂
Jeff Gordon? In a Ford?
My life is complete
Chevy
99Wolves 17 He was a Ford before Winston cup.
Rick Hendrick has made a living off poaching drivers from Ford.
Mr.Binks Poaching? More like being the most opportunistic. Blame the other owners for not grabbing the Ford drivers in time. ✌👍
He would have won more if he kept a Ford
By the time Gordon won at Phoenix there were 14 different winners.. Wow.. Look at that disparity.
Wow it's funny that he won at Phoenix and Miami so early on in the Busch series when those were some of the last tracks he won at in the cup series.
jeff used to be good at restarts?????
Yeah, I kind of noticed that.
Funny, but also back then the restarts were lead lap cars in 1 lane, lap cars in the next. A lot easier to get a good restart when 2nd place is behind you and the car next to you is someone you've lapped previously.
Lol I was shocked too
That was back when they had real man restarts, if you beat somebody to the caution you deserve to be ahead of them instead of beside them
Those cars don’t have the hp of the cup cars , you didn’t have to worry about wheel spin as much on restarts
Gordon will always be one badass wheelman
Awesome video... But man those V-6's sounded terrible

Hehe, that first win, under very unique circumstances, most notably in a FORD!
That first career won changed his life FOREVER, really wish I could find a copy of the entire race so I could see for myself just how out of control his car was on TV.
Jeff Gordon Edits Absolutely!!!!! If only.!!!
Why did Jeff quit runnning in the Busch Series after 2000? That Pepsi car was so cool

@@jeffreyvences4361 Kyle was able to stay focused on cup as well. DEsr ran a few Busch races for DEI in the early 90s as well
I'm shocked someone hasn't made a movie about Jeff and Dale Sr.'s relationship and rivalry that boosted NASCAR during this time.
They have. Unrivaled Gordon V Earnhardt. Motortrend has it.
Jeff Gordon is the best
Shout out to the dude wearing the DIRT jacket in victory lane of the first race, lol.
Damn even Jeff was kinda awkward back in the day
My Top 3 racers:
Jeff Gordon
Kyle Busch
Kurt Busch
As someone who started watching nascar in 2003 its hard to imagine Jeff Gordon doing anything in the Busch series
That pepsi car he ran in 99 or 2000 was a good looking car then
