He went from idolizing Isiah Thomas, to sharing the back court with him in Detroit, and finally joining him in the Hall of Fame. It was a long journey and a well earned reward for Joe Dumars.

Joe Dumars was the starting SG on NBA Championship teams, playoff teams, non-playoff teams, and really bad teams, and one thing is certain, he went to work everyday with the same humility and respect for the game, his teammates, and his opponents. Class individual on and off the court, and I was blessed to watch and be a Pistons fan his entire career. Thanks Joe D.

      I know right?
Yeah I am a number one fan of ALL of the 'Bad Boys' of that era.
      Lol
Joe Dumars and John Salley were (ironically) the "good" 'Bad Boys'.
Man, I miss the 1987-1991 NBA. The league was SO fascinating then. I hated to see the Pistons go out like they did in the '91 ECF. But yes I was proud of Dumars and Salley for being the two who showed class toward MJ and the Chicago Bulls.

Unselfish, cared more about the team winning than anything else. Clearly evident in this speech is that he had a good, solid upbringing, and he's someone young players can have as a true role model. Is Michael Jordan really not in attendance here? Wow. Jordan is the GOAT. No argument there. I can't believe he isn't here. Dumars defended him better than anybody and helped Jordan step up to the next level, and then the next level. I hope he had a good excuse. If he didn't show up because of the hatred for Isiah and the Pistons then it's time to stop the hate for Isiah especially after the "Last Dance" documentary BS. Let it go Mr. Jordan. Forgiveness. After a speech like that, I want to sit down and enjoy breakfast with his momma. What a hero to raise a man like that, in the deep south, during challenging times!

In the mid 2000s he could of run for Mayor of Detroit (many wanted him to) or even governor of Michigan and won. Even after drafting Darko we all still loved him for putting that amazing team together. I will be forever grateful to him, watching those teams in college and having some great times. I missed watching only 7 games from the 2002 season to the 2006 season (yes, I counted, I was a nut). Though his tenure didn't end well, his moves as GM from 2000-2006 were unbelievable. Minus Darko or course. Side note: my friends and I wanted him to take either Bosh or Wade (we didn't like Melo). Bosh to be that big man next to Ben that sheed ended up being or Wade to bring a great scoring guard off the bench (I know, we didn't know he'd be that good, but we loved his NCAA tournament run at Marquette that year). But luckily we fans got a title and almost repeated; game 7 in 2005 left us despondent. Thanks Joe, those were my favorite teams in any sport I've seen so far in my life.

Hated the Pistons, but had massive respect for Joe Dumars. He showed up, shut up and played the game the way it was supposed to be played.
