Hey with updates some of this stuff changed, took me a bit to figure out. Here's everything I had to do differently for anyone else using Blender 4.2 (I haven't watched past this video so there's a chance more stuff is different in the following tutorials): - The python script didn't work for me, I had to follow this video to make the Cloudrig tab show up: th-cam.com/video/nHcEv3iMh70/w-d-xo.html - The "Layers" tab isn't there anymore, I believe it's now under "Settings" -> "Bone Collections". It looks a little different but should work the same? - Parts of the model were being mirrored when I moved them. To turn this off **make sure you are in Pose Mode** then go to the "Tool" tab (same place as the "Cloudrig" tab) and uncheck "X-Axis Mirror". (Other people in the comments said the model doesn't work for blender 4.x but besides these issues it seemingly works fine. I think the model got updated at some point as I'm working with v3 and the one in the video is v2.4)
For anyone getting overwhelmed... In the CloudRig menu you need to deselect all controls except for "Main controls" first, which will let you pose Rain very simply by only moving her limbs. If she's getting deformed while moving the hands, go to IK > IK Stretch > Arms Stretch and put a 0 there so she doesn't stretch. If she's messed up you can always go to Blender > File > Revert to reset the file.

Ohhh this part truly is exciting! Getting to put the bits taught before into an actual rigged character. Better to start with a free puppet first, before trying to say, make your own model, or one that's not so new user friendly. Thank you for pointing out Rain! It's good practice to get use to a character rig expertly done before trying to make one myself as my first. This was a nice small tutorial on the very important bits of importing and as well as talking about how this model is exactly the same as a cube just more, and not to be scared or overwhelmed to jump in, so thank you for it! :D Makes me want to make a small video render of her just doing all the little animation and poses you said. with your voice in the background, would that be okay to make using your voice? if not that's also okie.
@@CrashsuneAcademylol no need to apologize, I am sure my comment was daunting due to it's length. as well as I am sure you have a few projects taking up most of your time! Remember to hydrate! and keep up the wonderful work! x3
Is there any alternative to Rain that we can use to follow along with this tutorial? All characters on Blender Studio seem to not properly function in Blender 4.X
i really loved this tutorial series. but i hoped that there was a full chapter for the rigging part as it is an essetial part of animation. thank you crash🤍
Suddenly jumping to the full character rig is pretty overwhelming, since none of these controls are clearly labelled. - I can figure out how to move the hands and that the elbows are pointed by the arrow things, but why is the arm stretchy and weird? Can I limit the arm to it's natural length somehow for blocking out, and only add the cartoon stretch after so it's easier to work with? - The coordinate system seems to be different for different parts of the rig, and I don't know why. For the wrist control, the Z axis seems to be pointing out in the direction of the thumb, following it as it rotates rather than being objective to the scene, which makes it really difficult to control where it goes. - Trying to move the ponytail doesn't make any sense. What is the difference between the red and orange controls? Also, moving these often causes the ponytail to "kink" in a weird way, and it's very difficult to figure out which part needs to be rotated to straighten it out. - Also, I'm having some kind of problem with keyframes on the different parts of the rig that I am so confused about that I don't even know how to explain what's going on. Like... sometimes some parts don't seem to keyframe where I'm saying they ought to, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong? Feels like we suddenly jumped over a chapter and I'd like to get more insight into the step-by-step process of actually posing and moving this sort of character rig.

thank you sm, having it broken down in chapter form really helps for me as I feel like most tuts are just 5 hour long lectures :c 💖
anyone else had the layers menu show empty?the character and setting menus do have options in them the layers one has nothing on it
I think Blender 4.x versions break her rig UI sadly :( Blender 3.x versions should still work however
Me too 👺
Same
Is there a way for blender 4x version users...?
