    Brilliant video, great to watch. Once you'd diagnosed the governor and had it changed I think a lot of people may have seen the boiler to appear to be running normally and called the job a good 'un, but you carried on and made sure the combustion was fine before leaving site - impressive work ethic and a good example to others.

    • @HeatingGeek
      @HeatingGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. You have to be sure its all ok.
      Especially as so many others have been there. They could of tried to adjust the gas valve and messed things up even more.

    So the boiler was fine, what you did was amazing most engineers would come in and say they need a new boiler and still would of had the same problem lol

    • @HeatingGeek
      @HeatingGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most people see an unusual or rare boiler and panic. So its easer to say a new one is needed than take the time and risk getting it wrong.
      I like to work on boilers that are new to me as long as there is no time constraints. Thanks for the comment!!

    Nice work. Shows the importance of doing the basics! Also like you said, standing back and actually observing it was a combustion issue and keeping it simple and not looking for faults that don't exist, On the face of it you can see why a plate was changed as you'd get similar symptoms I guess. Always check the basics kids... Good work man

    • @HeatingGeek

      It alters the gas pressure based on the air flow through the appliance. It will adjust slightly as the boiler becomes dirty and/or the fan becomes lesss efficient.

  • @RobinsonHeating
    @RobinsonHeating 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    you was right to think the flame picture was not good, at 9.7 co2 with case on the burner is running fuel rich, an adjustment of the air gas mixture would have brought the co down and improved the flame picture and efficiency (all be it marginally).
    That's why co2% is just as important as ratio, because m.I's say ratio is ok so appliance is safe which is right in theory but it still would have benefited from calibration to get the most from it.
    Although we all know in real life and with more jobs to get too that as long as it's burning safe rather than efficiently then it's job done and crack on to the next one 😁
    Good vids btw.

    • @HeatingGeek
      @HeatingGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im doing commercial in a few months so I hope to learn a lot more info on combustion and efficiency. At the moment I just aim for the MI's and that will do!!
      I think all Manufactures need to standardise the combustion set up on there boilers. Too many different boilers with different procedures.

    Did they replace the governor on the meter ? i had this done because of low gas pressure
    after first service even though the previous year the council arranged a boiler swapout
    nothing was mentioned by the installer at the time of install
    so along comes first service and a gas pressure problem governor was changed by cadent
    boiler was serviced and is running makes me wonder how lazy the original installer was
    funnily enough this also rectified a gas cooker upper oven issue where the oven kept going out
    and had sent two new cookers back because of this problem seems many technicians
    are not as thorough and skilled as you

    Any tips on screwing flues? My most hated part of the job, I’m scared of going through with the hss bit ! I’ve taped it up so only a little the tip of the bit shows but it’s not ideal, any better solutions I’m all ears ! Nice video, basic checks seem to evade most

    • @HeatingGeek
      @HeatingGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use self tappers that cut there way through so I don't pre drill. They are called self drilling screws and have a little flute on the end. use a cordless and takes 10 seconds to cut through.

    I’ve a question. Do you usually do the gas flue analyser test with the boiler cover on or off ??

    • @HeatingGeek
      @HeatingGeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always do it with the cover on unless I'm setting it up. Once it's set up I do it with the case on.

    • @B1cam
      @B1cam 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      HeatingGeek yes. I was going to say that I like to do it with the case on to see it perform in normal working condition, that way the air intake is via the flue instead of the ambient air if the cover is off, there may be a hole in the flue inner for example. Many colleges over the years don’t do this even training instructors on courses do it with the cover off. Makes no sense to me. Thanks for unloading this videos I don’t work in the gas industry anymore though I still hold a license and it’s good to watch you go through the faultfinding in your vids so I don’t loose touch with it.
