    My dad taught me all about the corporate world, and his big advice is, "If they have you attend a company picnic, or other activity that's allegedly not on the clock, guess what? You're still at work. Do not drink, do not fraternize, just keep your mouth shut and smile. Do not discuss politics, religion, or how much you make. Do not fish off the company pier." When you are on the clock, his advice is the advice my grandpa gave him: "Keep your mouth shut and do your job description. If you do those two things, you are already ahead of 90% of your co-workers for promotion."
    Joke's on them; I run my own business, and love my job. Still really good advice, though.

    As soon as the "cool heroic voice" or whatever was encouraging people to care for the wounded I knew something was up. Very odd thing to do in a campaign where everyone is actively trying to be as evil as possible

  • @ArcCaravan
    @ArcCaravan 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +43

    Jerk move to promote evil campaign then force everyone to be good for a DMPC (especially when they follow a chaotic evil god, regardless of retcon). While the story of redeeming villains through making them a heroic party has potential, it shouldn't be sprung out of nowhere and shouldn't excuse a canon villain.

    "I am going to run an Evil campaign" followed by shackling them with a Paladin handler, just reminds me of "The Gamers: Dorkness Rising" (Great D&D film, give it a watch!). Lodge (the DM in the film) learned his lesson, where as the DM in this story did not. The game OP and the players got was not the game they agreed to play.

    • @TyRaff
      @TyRaff หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That had so many great moment, but one of my favorites had to be when the paladin said, "look, I think I see an evil doer over there," and just let the party do their thing. That was great character development for Lodge as the DM.

      The line Sir Osric says is "My what rustic yet charming architecture over there. I will inspect it further." Which I quote when a player character wonders from the main group for whatever reason.
      Lodge did so, because he is taking Joanna's advice to ease up on being so strict on the players. It's why the players, with the exception of Cass, start coming around to the game and roleplaying more.
      It does take Lodge a bit to come around, but he learns by the end that by focusing on the story he wants to tell the players fight him more. If he eases up, and tell the story collaboratively with his players, they all get to tell and enjoy the game much more.

    I’ve played cards at a friends workplace. It was actually a pizza place and we’d eat pizza and play cards for a few hours after everyone was off work. Never had any issues, though. Looking back I’m surprised we never got in trouble even if his boss played with us.

    Don't be friends, or even overly friendly, with your boss.
    That should be the real lesson... but honestly, there's so much in here that's worth criticizing. A weirdo proposing to basically a complete stranger (even if you were dating the whole time, you barely know them, take a few years first, you nut). A DM that's overly-controlling and seemed to just get bored of the idea of an evil campaign and railroaded everyone into being good guys when they could have just... you know... had them make good or redeemed characters instead and went with that.
    Out of all of it, though, the thing that bothered me most was the bastardization of an established deity in D&D lore. Why? Why even do it? There are other gods who would have fit way better. Elistraee, most obviously.

      Is it on-site and can anyone in the group fire someone else in the group? Doing at work can be rough because you never know who finds something offensive that is pretty normal in D&D and now suddenly it has become a bit of a problem. If this was handled offsite and you have time to talk it out though I don’t see it turning into anything.
      I think the main concern here is that had it at work with a manger that kind of seemed like someone who was a pretty picky manager. So once it made the manager look bad, things kind of got ugly because they stopped being a friend and a DM and went straight into “I’m your boss” mode. Also Steve seemed like a pretty disagreeable person at D&D but this stubbornness for a game turned into a reflection of his performance at his job… I’d hate to be held to a workplace standard for what is a fun hobby.

      Also I would definitely recommend everyone going over some ground rules as for what is and isn’t comfortable and allowed behavior at the table, the same way you would with any new group. Especially because you guys all work together I would personally say no Inter party romance or pvp

      @@lootgoblinmarketplace The plan is for it to be off-site, and all of the players (and myself) are Ed-Techs at the school I work at. But yeah, my main worry now is just possible expectations going in and what is acceptable for everyone. I hadn’t thought about that before, but I’ll definitely have to have a conversation about that with everyone.
