    Nice review mate.
    I respect your positivity in seeing the best in a place.
    I was down there a couple of months back and didn't take to the place too much.
    Railay beach was lovely, and you can hire a kayak there and paddle around the islands.
    The Southern end of Ao nang beach was nice...No vehicles allowed into the access road.. a lot of cheap massage places there that give you a beach mat and cushion to use (free).
    No shortage of selections of food places or bars

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Todd! I guess different people are into different things. I went to Ao Nang for the first time in April 2011, spent 20 days there and I loved it. When I returned to Australia I found I was missing Ao Nang and I went back for another 18 days in July 2011. I moved to Ao Nang in April 2012 and have lived in the area ever since then. I still love Ao Nang :)
      Yes, Railay is great and the kayaking there is a lot of fun! You can also rent kayaks in Ao Nang near the massage places you mentioned and kayak around to Railay or to the islands.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Excellent video Darren
    I stayed in Ao Nang (my second time on Ao Nang) this February for 4 nights and in all honesty I really do prefer it to Phuket. I think it is cleaner, less polluted, people are more friendlier, much more calm, and generally it is very nice plus Railey is close by too. So yes Krabi (Ao Nang) over Phuket anyday

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Yes, over the years a lot of people have told me they prefer Krabi to Phuket and I'm in the same boat too.

    • @brothersman524
      @brothersman524 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@darrenb3 Absolutely. I think Phuket is more for party and shopping where Krabi is more relaxed. I've been to Phuket twice, first time was good but second time wasn't plus I'm not into shopping nor into parties either. Both times I've been to Krabi, I have nothing but praise to say about it and would choose Krabi again. I feel you have more options for sight-seeing in Krabi like visiting Railey/Phra Nang/Tonsai Beaches, also doing the 4 Islands Tour with Sunset Dinner (Tup, Chicken, Poda, Phra Nang), Hong Islands (Lagoon, Hong Island Pak Bia Island, Lao Lading Island) plus Phi Phi Island Tour is closer from Krabi than Phuket. Also there are mainland activities in Krabi like Tiger Cave Temple, Emerald Pool, Hot Springs, Jungle Trekking, Rock climbing, visiting Krabi Town and other activities

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I agree. My first ever trip to Thailand I landed in Phuket and spent my first 36 hours there (in Patong), before heading to Krabi. After 24 hours in Phuket both my travel buddy and I agreed we had seen enough and we didn't leave our hotel for the final 12 hours we were there. I spent the next 20 days in Krabi and it wasn't enough. I came back to Krabi 3 months later for another 18 days and it still wasn't enough, and 7 months later I moved to Krabi. I've lived here now for over 8 years and I still love it, and I still discover new things and amazing places here regularly.
      Nearly everyone who goes to Phuket for a holiday visits Krabi (eg Phi Phi Island, or Hong Island) but not many who have a Krabi-based holiday find the need to go to Phuket.
      There's a reason for that ;)

    • @brothersman524
      @brothersman524 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darrenb3 Absolutely and totally agree Darren. Krabi has a lot of hidden gems to be explored. Phuket has a lot of beaches but unfortunately most of them are polluted - the only one I like there is Surin Beach. Phuket is far more busier but the island is polluted, too many tourists and scammers, hate Patong completely. Honestly Krabi is a lot more natural and if I'm even more honest with you I think Ao Nang Beach is better than Patong Beach IMO
      The only good things in Phuket are the Karon Viewpoint, Big Buddha and Promthep Cape and that is it. Krabi has the mainland activities as well as all the Island Hopping stuff. Plus you get much more better sunsets from Phra Nang Beach, West Railey Beach and Ao Nang Beach. There are also other islands further south in Krabi Province that are also beautiful. So yes I'm a Krabi fan!!!
      I just hope it doesn't go the same way as Phuket.

    Hi Darren, I'm not so hamburger's fan BUT with lobster...looks great! Original and looks tasty.
    There is some seafood, specific in Krabi ( Hoï Chuck teen)...where is the best place to eat them?

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the burger was great, I'll definitely be back for more of them :)
      I'd say the best place to eat hoi chak teen is the night markets in Krabi Town (Walking Street or Poo Dam Market), mainly because they are nearly always available there. Some of the seafood restaurants (Krua Thara in Ao Nang and Poo Dam & Bai Toey in Krabi Town) have them sometimes, but not always.

      I don't know which is more challenging....having to carry them when they are really young and not walking since strollers can be a pain in crowds or not being able to take your eyes off them for a second when they realize how independent they can be once they are walking, jumping and running.
      I much prefer the 40 below wind chill temps to living down south where hurricanes can kill you and destroy everything in their path. I pray for Florida and everywhere else IRMA has been. The leaves are already turning color up here LOL Winter is coming early...Your life seems idyllic :-)

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we've certainly got to keep our eyes on him nowadays. He's very independent and strong willed. If he decides he wants to do something, he's doing it. I'm not too big on winter myself, here a cold day is 28 degrees celsius and I'm pretty happy with that. Thankfully no hurricanes here either, the victims or Irma are certainly in our thoughts and prayers too. Yes, life is quite idyllic, which I'm very grateful for. It does have its ups and downs like anywhere though ;)
