Ken DellaSandri its ytong some soet of very moist absorbent concrete i use it to for my nests the combination with the plaster at the inside makes it look very professional
I like it. I heard if you incline in it makes for better viewing and more surface area so your ants are less likely to get bored and spend allot less time testing your barriers because from their very small perspective they have a lot more land to explore.
I’m just starting my colony of pogonomyrmex barbatus with just a Queen, any tips⁉️ And are there a place/person with larvae⁉️ I really wanna brood boost my colony‼️🇺🇸🐜
Ich habe gehört man soll kein normales Aquarium benutzen weil die sich sonst unten durch das Gummi fressen , ist das ein Mythos oder hast du ein spezielles Aquarium benutz ?
have you ever tried filling in the tunnels with sand or dirt so that the ants get to dig them out ? matbe leave 1 lever clear and as the population grows they clear the tunnels out?
Did you have any problems with the corners for this setup? Does Messor climb the corners like that video where Antscanada had his Black Knights break out of the terrarium by climbing the corners, passing by the baby powder barrier?
It's not that easy to make 100% barrier in the corners, particulary due to the PFTE gel I'm using. I had some escapees in the beginning. After resealing the corners there haven't any escapee yet. But these are Messor ants, they absolutely not good in climbing on glass. For all other species I would recommend a lid or an frame which is on top of the formicarium. --> All in all, this setup is no problem for messor species, no escapees yet.
Great video, got some really interesting ideas watching this. How do you raise the humidity level in those blocks without mold, for other species like Myrmica Rubra?
This video is really creative and I wanted to re-create this on a smaller scale. I’m just wondering where you can find the large ytong blocks (so I can make multiple other nests) or an alternative to it? Thanks xx
Very nicely done!

I have a quick question... how do you water thus big thing? Any how very nice video
AmazingAnts i was wondering, what kind of cinder blocks did you use? Were they made of regular concrete?
Ken DellaSandri its ytong some soet of very moist absorbent concrete i use it to for my nests the combination with the plaster at the inside makes it look very professional
Amazing Ants I subbed
Where can i get those cinder blocks?
It was a great video, as well the formicarium. Except, how do you manage different humidity/moisture levels within the nest?
flood the hole? xD
How you hydrating those chambers? Is it necessary at all. ??
Awesome video mate! You are definitely underrated!
I like it. I heard if you incline in it makes for better viewing and more surface area so your ants are less likely to get bored and spend allot less time testing your barriers because from their very small perspective they have a lot more land to explore.
You deserve so much more recognition, really well done !
This is one of the best nest construction videos I've seen. Easy, efficient, and short. Well done 👏
This tutorial was awesome! I have a question for you. How do you keep the humidity of the fornicarium?
Thanks for all!
very nice..i would have done a double stack of the cinder blocks..liked how you filled the space in back with foam and plexiglass
great work. love the clay paint idea. will be using that!
Thanks for this. I’m starting my own ant colony and this was really helpful!
Endlich auch Deutsch Channels über Ameisen Gotttt sei dank !
Going to make my first one, this video gave me a lot of good advices.
That's really cool, I never would have thought of converting an aquarium like that.
Lovely work! Great filming too!
Awsome channel just found it today.find ur content to be unbelievably awsome
Loved this, thank you so much it helped me make my own
do not you have a separate water supply? only the snow was enough for a week?
@Amazing Ants, at 3:41 you said you used a mix of red sand. But, that looks like dirt. Where did you get that? Hope you reply!!
I really like the idea about painting it with clays I will be pinching that with the new setup I’m building now.
Looks amazing!
What tank did you use? I’m trying to get a good tank to keep my ants in.
where did you get your slabs of aac ? seems cant even get them in canada I wonder if i found a place in the usa if they would ship here
I’m just starting my colony of pogonomyrmex barbatus with just a Queen, any tips⁉️ And are there a place/person with larvae⁉️ I really wanna brood boost my colony‼️🇺🇸🐜
I like it, but I would personally add more ground cover, then add some live plants and decor (logs etc). Make it a vivarium on top of the formicarium.
How big is the aquarium size?
Ich habe gehört man soll kein normales Aquarium benutzen weil die sich sonst unten durch das Gummi fressen , ist das ein Mythos oder hast du ein spezielles Aquarium benutz ?
Couldnt you have done a double sets of nest one on top of the other as alot of the nest space is wasted
Does the clay and plaster paint run when water the nest?
I live in the us and where would I buy that type of material (did you use a us website?)
Was that a firebrick you put the holes in?
this looks really well done. :)
its looking very nice!
Dude that thing is badass
What kind of cinder block is this? I don't know if we have soft enough stuff to drill.
Have the chambers filled with the out world dirt?
Amazing tutorial my dude, i need ant friends in the US 🇺🇸 . As always, i love your content dont ever stop or i may just die LMAO
I might do something like this for my aquarium but keep it for fish and shrimp I think that would look freakin cool
have you ever tried filling in the tunnels with sand or dirt so that the ants get to dig them out ? matbe leave 1 lever clear and as the population grows they clear the tunnels out?
I love this idea
I think this is awesome. But I have a question how do you set up a water gradient in something like this, how does moisture enter the actual nest?
awesome video, a big camponotus colony can live in it
WERE DO YOU GET YPUR CINDER ??!?!?!! i cant find any do i have to make my own ?
How big is the tank and how big is the fire brick
I know this is three years ago but for making the most if that new best why not have the back of the tank with more nest modules????
1:59
the largest camera in the lower left corner there is no way to access
Great idea and realy well done. The surface was a bit plain though so mabie add some rocks or plants?
Gotta leave nest floors unpainted for humidity control. I heard plaster and clay get mold easily?!?
i love this so creative !!
Did you have any problems with the corners for this setup? Does Messor climb the corners like that video where Antscanada had his Black Knights break out of the terrarium by climbing the corners, passing by the baby powder barrier?

How do you watering the nest part?
Do they drill in ytong?
That looks great!
Hi mate how do you hydrate the nest
I'm late finding this but great video!
how will you water the nest?
Great video, got some really interesting ideas watching this. How do you raise the humidity level in those blocks without mold, for other species like Myrmica Rubra?
How did the queen get water and workers get water
Really like the look of this think it's a great idea
Hi there what is the name of that bore u use to make the chambers?
Love the way u talk
Have you grown mold
how can i stop ants crawling out? i dont want to put a glass plate on top because they need air, is there any solution?
Balázs Tóth PTFE or rubbing alcohol plus baby powder
What is the size of the aquarium?
But what if you have to much of them ? Are you going to kill them ?
This video is really creative and I wanted to re-create this on a smaller scale. I’m just wondering where you can find the large ytong blocks (so I can make multiple other nests) or an alternative to it? Thanks xx
I bought mine in a local hardware store (Europe, germany), if you live in america, it's not to easy to find ytong
Nice Vid! i might make a smaller version of that
Wow great desygn!!
How do you make sure they don't escape??
Nice tutorial, thanks! I'm inspired to get some ytong!
Please reply fast-What drill piece did you use for the ytong?
Amazing ants that's a amazing formicarium.
is plaster ok for a formicarium?? thanks
Great idea, looks amazing, but has the ytong blocks moulded over time?
Thanks! It still looks fine but I also don't water the nest.
do you need to put the paint?
Where did you bought the clay powder?
were can you find cinder blocks ?!!
Haha almost everyone in the comments section is an ants youtube channel. Nice to see some fellow ant lovers.

Very nice video and setup :)!
How do you make tge silicon escape proof?
Sieht sehr gut aus!!!

How you take the temperatur up?
Estupendo.
This video was great! Who else saw it on facebook com/groups/formicarium
Wie groß ist das Aquarium?
Is this ytong or just a normal cinder block
It's ytong, also known as AAC(Autoclaved Aerated Concrete). You can tell by looking at the brick and how it looks porous.
I’m 13 and wanting to be an ecologist, starting out by studying how ants live. Any advice on how to start my first ant farm?
Really good video!!
What material is it
