I know now this isn’t a cover. It drove me crazy during this video. I researched it after recording this and realized how badly I fumbled this reaction.
Just for reference king gizz hasn't actually done any covers yet in studio to my knowledge. They have done a few like hawkwind and ac/dc come to mind but they are very rare and often just merge into their songs
Every Gizzard song covers all the music I've been listening to for the past 60 years. It's what makes their music fun and interesting to listen to as they weave in and out of genres
Haha, no worries on the mistake! For some context on this song and Magma, the album these songs are from is all about the 7 Greek modes/scales. Each song is in a different mode, with Iron Lung being in the Aeolian mode and Magma in Phrygian. Basically the band would go into the studio each day with a different mode, tempo, and general theme and then just jam for a while, then they picked out the best parts and assembled them into the songs on the album. The end result is really cool and especially impressive when you realize each song is working within those constraints. This song being in Aeolian might explain why it sounds weirdly familiar (for example Californication by RHCP is another popular song in this mode).
Thanks for giving me a pass on my mistake. 🙏 Definitely fumbled it. That’s really interesting about the different modes. We’re learning this band is really deep. So cool that they take their art to this level. I’m starting to feel like we gotta go album by album with these Gizz reactions. Each album seems to have its own thing going on. We just recorded a reaction to The (evil) River live at red rocks. I’ll post that one soon - it’s crazy how good this band is
That's good info, but Aeolian is also just the natural minor scale and more or less half of all (western) music. It's familiar because it's everywhere.
@@shogun8-9 I can tell you the opening guitar progression and specifically the vocal melody are what through me off. I’m still not sure what I thought I was hearing. Maybe Tame Impala… It’s got that vibe, but it’s something else.
@@secondhandreactions I definitely could relate to your reaction at the end of this one, when you were pretty much left speechless. Wow 😯😳🤯 ...what a journey, indeed...not just spatially, but mentally & emotionally. They are definately something else. Also, your comment about jumping off a cliff made me laugh because after witnessing magic like this from King Gizzard, part of me feels like throwing all my guitars off a cliff...feeling content & fulfilled knowing that someone else has created what I would aspire to, but never would achieve. 😅 🙏 Thankyou King gizzard & the lizard wizard...& thankyou guys for your content here...love your honest reactions & just subscribed...please, more KGATLW 😊
@@blackholesun3569 There’s much more coming. We love this band. It’s kinda torture for me too, because I want to dive in, but because I want authentic reactions I can’t. Lol. So every time we sit down to record new reactions there will always be at least one KG&LW in there. It’s like I’m slowly unlocking music from my new favorite band. Also- I know exactly what you mean about yeeting the guitars off a cliff haha.
When I first heard this one it also rang familiar, didn't think it was a cover but it has some funky pop vibe that makes it sound like you've heard it before. Also the Hey ohs reminded me of rhcp haha
Man - I think exactly this. I wasn’t expect that kinda poppy tone from what I’ve seen of KG&WL so far. I could’ve swore I heard that somewhere else. I figured it had to be a cover
Any chance you heard the old school Psychedelic influence and your brain was trying to think of Iron Butterfly instead of Iron Lung? Love your guys reactions and free spirit! 💖✌
The best compliment you can give a musical chameleon of a band like gizzard is that their music sounds like a cover. That means they nailed the style, the vibe, the flow, and the tonality of the genre they were attempting to pull off. It's almost not even fair how easily these guys can incorporate older styles into their own and make it sound so damn good.
This is now how I’m gonna choose to look at my fumble. Lol Thank you 🙏. BTW - I totally agree with this. They absolutely nail certain atmospheres in their songs
I totally get why you thought it was a cover! They have a super familiar sound on this one and I had an feeling I’d heard this song too! I think it’s the music theory stuff we’re picking up that’s similar to a song or band in our heads and it’s hard to be precise when what you recognize from a song is just a feeling. Testament to their musicianship to put this conceptual album out. You two are some of my favorite reactions to KGLW.
Thanks for understanding. I didn’t know what to expect when I posted this reaction, but you all are some cool people. Cool song. Cool band. Cool fans ✌️
I’ve watched this again several times now - fucking brilliant man. I keep saying it, but this band is next level. Thank you 🙏 You all have been very cool about my stumble here. I appreciate that
@@secondhandreactions Also as a followup suggestion would be The Dripping Tap live at Bonnaroo '22. Theres an hour long video of it here on youtube but its the last song on their setlist. Crazy song but I think you'll love it.
@@Zimpwnify Think anyone would watch an hour long reaction? I’d love to do this. I do know this song already. Dripping tap was introduced to me long before I did any reactions. I don’t know an hour long version of it though, but sounds amazing
@@secondhandreactions Its not an hour long version sorry I worded that wrong haha. Its from a concert at Bonnaroo where the entire concert is an hour long but "The Dripping Tap" is the last song on the setlist. I watched it for the first time yesterday and was blown away haha.
lol - yea I think so. I thought I’d get crucified in these comments for this reaction, but everyone seems to get it. It really is a testament to how good this band is. ✌️
No worries on the mistake it happens to the best of us Would be cool for you to hear Head On/Pill one of their early anthems. Its got a cool video too. Or if you really want to go early when they were just kids Muckraker is fun from their first album. Just think it would interesting for you to see them as kids. They even have their college music performances on yt now curtisy of their teacher lol

Iron lung always reminds me of Lynyrd Skynyrd's That Smell, very similar chord progression and tempo. Could it be, maybe?
It's so good that it sounds like a classic

I vote for The Dripping Tap or The River next!
I have good news for you…
Ya'll would have a blast at a show. Good vibes all around. I saw them in Austin 2018, in June.. Was brutal heat but the dudes rocked! =)
🔥
I think a gizzard show is definitely in our future 🤘😆🤘
I love how into this you guys are! King Gizzard is a rabbit hole of awesome music.
A deep rabbit hole. Lol we’re loving this ✌️
Loving this!!!!
Been loving you're guys reaction to Gizzard, fs check out their other KEXP sessions like the Altered Beast set or the funky Microtonal set!
Thanks man! Appreciate you sticking with us for the highs and lows. I appreciate the suggestions. I’ll add them to the list

Something from flying microtonal banana next pls 😊 Nuclear fusion, sleep drifter, open water ect. All chill bangers

Check out Destination by Felt (1971) the tune is very similar to it
Okay 😀

Jethro Tull...Aqualung not Iron Lung.
