Let's speak about the N219 aircraft, which is a new generation multi-purpose aircraft with the largest cabin cross section in its class, a proven and efficient engine, modern avionics system, fixed tricycle landing gear, and a wide cargo door to make changing aircraft configuration easier. As a result, N219 Nurtanio is designed to give operators with technical and economic benefits.
This aircraft may be employed for a variety of missions, including passenger and troop transport, freight and medical supplies, surveillance, and patrolling.

with family on a tiny Puerto Rican island who has flown a ton of island hoppers as a passenger around the Caribbean.
Didn't know about the this company, or aircraft.
It stacks up well against the smaller Cessna Caravan, and especially compared to the 19 seat 408 SkyCourier.
In all, the PT-6 engine seems to be the go to choice.

Very similar to the L 410, which is already 50 years old. The price of the plane is also not small. It would have been easier to do everything, then the price would have been different. Make the landing gear non-retractable, make struts for the wing, then the wing can be made thinner.
The specs fits the needs for budget transportation for Indonesia with the geographic characteristics of its 13.000 islands

It is a very stepback for PT. Dirgantara Indonesia. We are able to fly N250 a much more bigger aircraft than N219 and even already have 2 prototypes and were said to have already finished its test safety etc. and only awaits full production. Very sad indeed.
Every aircraft are designed for different purpose based on the need of its market. So i don't think it is a stepback because the purpose of this aircraft is to fulfill for its markets. If the market need small than small it is vice versa.
Had to disagree. N250 is a bigger aircraft, yes, but it's harder to develop with the limited budget Indonesia could provide. N219 on the other hand, is way less risky to develop from the economical aspect of aircraft development standpoint. N219 is the right step towards the aircraft manufacturing capability Indonesia sought so hard.

Dornier design and developed by German. India get the license to produce it. N 219 design is basically very different with Dornier but it is in the same class. See Textron Skycourier then you will see a duplicate of N 219, but at this time it is Textron who imitate N 219 since PTDI has roll out the N 219 plane much earlier than Sky Courier from USA
Same weight but very different market, Skycourier will hope frome one small american airport to another, carrying cargo for amazon and ebay.... N219 designed to operate from small dusty airstrip deep in the jungle, carrying basic logistical stuff, like fuel or rice or generator's spare parts in papua mountain region, almost like canadian twin otter's task.
@@luarbiasawaras8700 Sky courier is focusing in the cargo sector now, while N 219 is focusing for passenger market and also as you said to carry bulk cargo in remote region. But of course N219 program will try to broaden the market and they have plan to make cargo plane similar like Skycourier, troops transport, and even MPA planes and amphibious plane as well.

We're an island nation, so air transport is only going to grow. And propeller aircraft are cheaper to operate. Our market is huge, and it totally makes sense to produce and use our own airplane. This airplane is designed to be versatile, able to accommodate unique indigenous requirements and can operate in poor and short airstrips

The N219 will also be developed into the N219 MPA as a maritime patrol aircraft and the N219 will also be developed into an amphibious aircraft that can land in water areas and is suitable for tourist transportation in remote islands.

There are too many similar airplanes of this type in the market and competition is tight. If you really want to stand out and capture a huge market share, you have to build something different. They should have built a two, or four engine higher passenger capacity (70 - 90) turbo-prop airplane that can fly higher above the clouds and much quieter in flight. That is where the competition is much lower and fewer planes exist there...
It was designed for remote places in Indonesia where infrastructures are minimal to none. And yes, the potential domestic market are huge actually. Locally made also means more money in saving.
The Indonesian private company was developed already a modern 80 - 100 passengers, the designed I heard is near to completed & will continue to next step, build a prototipe.
