We use a hair dryer to heat up the sticker and surrounding area. This helps to remove most store labels from books. It also helps to remove labels on boxes that we re-use to ship to our customers.
So fantastic to have books from Wyndham’s personal collection! I understand he was an avid smoker. Is the smoke residue still evident? What do you do to mitigate smells of old paper, smoke, mildew, etc? I’ve been using small open containers of baking soda behind my paperbacks. Really fun to be collecting some of the same SF books. I just love the American paperbacks of the 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s. January will see 3 book haul videos on my channel from a road trip I took from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Tucson, Arizona. I'm looking forward to your book haul videos 🙂 You're right, Wyndham was a heavy smoker (maybe why he died relatively young) and some of the books show signs of this (yellowing) but not in smell. I have had sucess removing yellow nicotine staining from spines, which are glossy and laminated, with my trusty Mr Sheen. Never felt the need for baking soda but I'll try anything! My best, Jules
Hey Jules can you recommend any good polypropylene sleeves? I have good ones from BCW but they only fit smaller paperbacks. Hope your New Year was well and looking forward to seeing what rare paperbacks you find in 2024. 🙂
@@JulesBurt That's a good practical solution 🙂 still something in me wants a dedicated paperback sleeve. I'll research soon and if I find a good product I'll let you know. Also what way do you keep track of your library? I use LibreOffice spreadsheets.
I see the First NZ edition of ‘General goes too far’ has just appeared on ebay for £80, Personally i need a number on the spine, But what is your View on foreign editions when building a penguin collection ?
That's probably a touch high for a NZ edition. That cone is so scarce though. In thirty years I've only owned two copies and maybe seen it for sale twice. It would be fine as a filler though and you can always move it on if the UK edition was to come your way🙂

You can use comic bags and just fold them down to fit. The best are Mylites 2 but Ultra Pro comic bags are also good and much cheaper 😕

I like your videos but you it is very hard to hear you almost as if youre whispering.
No one has ever commented that they can't hear me but I do speak quite softly. There are volume controls in all the TH-cam apps though.
