When I was a young lad driving one of these cos it was all I could afford, I don't think I'd have believed you if you'd told me in the year 2024, you could watch live stream in HD from Mars or from the international space station, but the best thing I'd be watching this week is a bloke welding a new front end on a Morris Marina! Great work! 👍
Simon's attention to detail, old school workmanship and workarounds are fast becoming a dying art, every restoration garage needs a Simon, that said, great effort from everyone, she's looking a lot happier now she has her face on... top bombing chaps 👍🏻
@crap_car seeing as Simon is putting so much effort into a BL shitbox, I have no doubt he would actually turn his skills up to eleventy for a show car... he is a legend in his own lunchtime 👍🏻
Best video so far. As someone who worked on these in the main dealer when they were new I reckon those shut lines are better than they ever were on PDI. I have a real soft spot for Marinas, dad had an HL brand new back in 1977.
Great job! I did a pair of Marina wings back in 1994 on my TC Coupe, absolute pigs, the offside one had just the same problem with the leading edge almost touching the bonnet, and that was a pattern. They cost me £41.50 including vat each.....nowadays you could put another zero on that price. It may be worth considering changing out the front suspension for the van/ital Mk2 telescopic conversion, that makes so much difference with some Walford lower trunnions, (two grease nipples, not one). Good luck with it all, its going to look superb. All the best from Okahandja, Namibia.
Not long watched Ian's workshop. But this is much more interesting. I love a laugh but also love good work. The perfect balance a good serious video in-between.
Great video and much talent shown in fettling this car back to its glory. Those panel gaps are something else, but its indicative of a BL product. Watching these videos is spurring me into turning my own home garage into a workshop...i want to learn how to weld too...keep up the good work...all the best!!!
Really enjoyed this video... when I was younger around 19 I had a mk2 ford fiesta and its front wings and valance were rotten and as I was a farmers son n not a lot of money and I could weld I went too a panel factors and got myself 2 wings n the valance then cut off my rusty old ones and then faffed around for ages getting the new generic ones too fit and line up to get a reasonable panel gap ect... and weld them in place with my trusty machine mart mig welder... ended up not too bad in the end ...but paid a guy too spray it for me.. so I really appreciate the effort that's gone into this morris front end rebuild .... though the guy grinding in the workshop could have gone somewhere else and let the poor welder have dome peace n quiet 😂...looking forward too the next episode...👍
i remember my Friend having a marina as His First car and he was the First of us to own a car and have a licence.. we ended up breaking the rear springs because there were that many of us jumping about in the car lol...
Fascinating to watch the process. This is such an excellent video. The journey, the thought process, the fettling. This is good honest engineering and art combined. More please 👍
Bl**dy well done guys. Panel alignment isn’t ever easy, particularly the front edge of the wing/bonnet. Patience, perseverance and experience wins out. Big round of applause to Simon.
Cheers Chris. Simon has probably fitted a million wings to various cars over the years. He has all the experience. And would you believe he works in an office? (Now)
If only BL gave as much attention to detail as Simon does on fit and finish, the company would never have had the reputation it got for quality of product and would have gone on to be something truly great......apart from the issues with industrial strikes, less than stellar management, design flaws and model competition within the same market sector! The cool thing about restoration is that we can take the time needed to make a great example of the model we fell in love with. In essence - fix what could (or should) have been fixed 50 years ago and make the vehicle look and feel like they said it did in the glossy showroom brochures. Attention to detail is king and Simon has it in spades in regard to the bodywork. The team as a whole have it in tonnage if the finished examples (and other parts of the Marina being prepared) are anything to go by. I always enjoy an update from you blokes and especially for this reason. All the best
You guys are doing such good work on that car. It’s not easy by any means, it’s very impressive. Great job. It’s going to be a superb car when you’re finished. 👍🇬🇧
Well I have to say, its probably better than when BL put it together, great job guys, is the engine back yet! don't keep us in suspense, I want to see is on the road. 😄
How professional is the work being done on this car. Such patience and skill to get everything done properly. Well done. I just have to ask, are the wings going to be fitted with wheel arch protection? Best wishes wishes from Lincolnshire
Hi John. Thank you for your comments. The arches and underside of the wings will be treated with underbody protection probably Dinitrol. We haven't discussed fitting arch liners yet but if we can get some that fit, we probably will.
Salute to you guys! I wonder how much of this 'fettling' needed to happen when they were first built in the factory. I once had a mint Austin 1100 that had obviously had some hammer work on the door frame (and drips in the paint) and I was told by an expert that it was all original. 😅
I used to own a marina, and am not sure u have this just right...see its supposed to be full of rust and the panels are supposed to be out of line....its factory spec...
Going back a few weeks, I said about the brake shoe retaining spring tool. Unfortunately, I've not found it yet. If I do, I'll sort out getting to you 😢
have you decided on wheels please not minilites lol what about scimitar slot mags reckon they would look fab or tr6 wheels or marina tc wheels or stag wheels or banded marina wheels
Sorry guys, I love the channel but I get little or no sound. Probably a FireStick issue or something but I've tried everything and Amazon have been worse than useless. Good luck with the GT..nice motor...all the best
That's strange. When creating the video I do it on a computer, and often play it back using headphones. Then I'll watch it on the tv to make sure the sound is OK. Are all videos the same?
I worked for a very large British Leyland dealership in the early 80s quality control wasn't top of the list on cars leaving the factory we had new cars in the workshop every day for body correction and bits missing

Hey youtube- get this excellent build in front of more viewers!
Tea time!
Thank you my man, very much appreciated!
Thank you Dave! You star.
They don't make them like they used to. I'm talking about Simon. What a brilliant perfectionist.
Hardest part is trying to align a car that never lined up properly when new...😮🇮🇪👍
What a great video this was , thanks …total respectful for all the skill and effort put in …can’t wait for the next episode
Should be tomorrow at 6pm! Thanks for watching!
Simon's skills and patience is really paying off - she really is starting to come together at last - well done chaps .
Simon's attention to detail, old school workmanship and workarounds are fast becoming a dying art, every restoration garage needs a Simon, that said, great effort from everyone, she's looking a lot happier now she has her face on... top bombing chaps 👍🏻
Thank you! And the thing is, if Si was building a show car his attention to detail would be 10x that.
@crap_car seeing as Simon is putting so much effort into a BL shitbox, I have no doubt he would actually turn his skills up to eleventy for a show car... he is a legend in his own lunchtime 👍🏻
Have you seen his Subaru Brat or Ford Anglia? They are mint.
@crap_car I have indeed, they look quality 👍🏻

Thanks for watching. The club do a telescopic conversion which we will be installing.

Thank you. It's hard to get the right balance. The videos need to be entertaining and interesting. Hopefully we can teach people things along the way.
@crap_car I liked this long vid. I did find the other vids needing more work footage to balance out the banter. But Fantastic as always.
British craftsmanship at its best, well done Sirs.
Thank you!
Its great that Simon's skills can be passed on to the younger collective, and shared with us us through TH-cam.
Simon is just a true master, the amount of patience and self-checking is really impressive. Thanks for the video😊

The body parts that Simon made fit so much better than the proper stamped wings! Kudos for getting it to look so good!

Really interesting video boys, if it's shown me one thing, it's that I do not have the skills to restore a classic car!
Very satisfactory Simon good man.
Fascinating to watch the process. This is such an excellent video. The journey, the thought process, the fettling. This is good honest engineering and art combined. More please 👍
Thank you. There's very little welding left to do on the Marina but there is the opportunity to do similar videos on future projects.

In awe of this chaps skill set. Dying art.
Yeah he's not bad is he.
there is a place over at Bicester where they are using the older tradesmen to teach youngsters to work like this, over subscribed as well,
Tremendous video some really good stuff

I think this will be one of the best Marina’s in Britain once it’s done. 👍
Fits like a glove, on a foot...😂
I really like what you're doing boys, keep it up.
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying it.
That play was there from day one in the bl factory 😂
Great to see the grill go on. So cool 😎👍
Well done, boys 💪
What a top job!
That was brilliant a good job well done
Thanks for watching!
really impressive workmanship, its going to annoy the MK1 escort brigade, and hopefully encourage a few more marina owners to get their cars fixed
Looking good 👍
Great to see a master at work 💪👍

Thanks.
Lovely job lads.

Well I have to say, its probably better than when BL put it together, great job guys, is the engine back yet! don't keep us in suspense, I want to see is on the road. 😄
Yep the engine is back. It was provided back as a short block so we need to paint it and put the head on.

Got to be the Mk 1 Marina TC wheels, they are lush!😊
What on earth was going at BL with those dodgy panel pressings?
Starting to look like a morris marina gt
It's a pity there's no option to double like a video. 👍👍

I have to ask, but in the background I can hear tannoy announcements like something you hear in a communist car factory ?? what on earth is it ???
It is an security announcement that can't be turned off unless we have access to the main building.
Please please convert the Daimler to a spud gun before you sell it
