My hamster is way to lazy to get out of its cage. Once my friend accidentally left the door open easily for her to get out my about 3 hours later she was still in there.

We were looking after our schools hamster , Rosie, and it escaped whilst my dad was looking after it for me. He rushed out to pets at home because he thought our cat had got it. I wish I could have seen his face when he walked into my room and saw Rosie run across my bedroom floor😂 so now I have 2 hamsters😂

I don't know if this works but you could wrap something with peanut butter (for example a walnut or something) and tie a string to it and follow the string. they'd probally take it to their hideout
I’ve heard this is actually a great method of finding where they’re hiding. You can also sprinkle flour in the area you think they might be and look for their foot prints

This video saved my family! Our hamster got loose in the car on the way home from the pet store and ran up into the dashboard where he stayed for 3 days. This is a miracle worker My hamster was in my loft and shes the same Colour as the installation so we couldn’t find her I set up the trap that I saw on this video about a year ago and I watch the video again to make sure I got everything precise I set up in there and my dad checked the loft every now and then and early this morning we went up and she was sat in the bucket looking up at us Thank you soooo much x !

Thanks so much for this! Yesterday, my brother found my hamster in the living room and I suspect it was because he (my hamster) smelled the peanut butter on the trap. While it didn’t catch him, it probably did the job in getting him in the living room after 2 entire days of me not finding a sign of him in the house!
This worked! We don't use peanut butter so I put paper towel on top with some sunflower seeds in the middle. I also used large flower pot so the scratching alerted me and woke me up.
OH MY GOD THANK U SO MUCH!! My hamster escaped, and I cried and cried for minutes until I found this video. I quickly got books a bucket, and treats and I didn't have to, I did, give her food and water. but she surely enough climbed into the trap! My little Pabu has escaped and I don't know for how long. He has one eye and hates physical playtime with a passion. I was tired of listening to him chew on the tubes so I slept with earplugs in since his training wasn't working after weeks of trying. I wake up this morning at 10:00am and I have been looking for him ever since. Last time he did this we found him on my staircase. Knowing his curiosity and excitement of knowing that there is a whole world outside his cage, he must have ventured farther down in my house. I set his cage on the floor in my room and placed 5 treats and a tiny smear of peanut butter on tinfoil in each bedroom on the top floor. If he comes out at night for food, one of us will hear him messing around with the tinfoil. On the ground floor I set up two of the same tinfoil traps on carpet and two flour traps on the hardwood floor. If he gets food from the flour traps, he will leave little footprints. If these traps don't work on the ground floor, I will move on to multiple bucket traps! Wish me luck on finding my problem child!
Yeah, the little tugmunch was found near one of the peanut butter traps I set out at 11:00pm the same day I commented this. From the time I noticed he escaped to the time we found him, he was gone for 13 hours. He was probably gone longer than that.
Hey Erin I have a dwarf hamster and he can’t sense that the peanut butter is there I’m a bit concerned he might be blind he doesn’t climb onto my hand like my other hamster did but he doesn’t run away either he only runs away if I make noise could you tell me what this means please thank you.
Hamsters have bad eyesight and rely heavily on sense of smell. If he were blind it wouldn’t affect him in that way. It could be he just doesn’t like peanut butter and doesn’t want to be held.
I've heard of bucket traps, but the water bottle bait is brilliant! When my hamster escaped a couple weeks back I was lucky enough to be home when it happened, I just had to listen for rustling and scooped her quickly into her ball while she was distracted by a treat. They do love to wind us up don't they?
My hamster actually did a flying leap and landed on the bottle, lol. So much for that haha. Don't worry, she's now safe and sound eating those homemade hamster treats you showed on a video!
My hamster Bruce decided to wander off 2 days ago. I have built the trap and it worked like a charm 👍. I sprinkled walnuts on the books and put a date paste in the bottle.
Thank you SO much Erin! I needed to set my hamster's lid up since it had fallen in the cage. I put him in my dresser, not knowing that he'd be able to get out. When I tried to find him I couldn't see him anywhere. I checked everywhere and even moved my dresser, but he wasn't there. I was super stressed at that point and so I called my sister to continue looking while I set up a rodent trap. Sure enough, I hear little paws scratching at something. It sounded like wood and it was coming from my dresser. My mom urged me to take out the drawers and when I did, I found my little roborovorski dwarf in the opening, shaking, but at the same time he'd smelt the peanut butter and tried to escape. I took him and put him back in his cage and he seemed to calm down a bit.
My aunt has a hamster and the hamster somehow escapes during the wee hours of the morning to play with her cat, then goes back in the cage when she wakes up. Smarty-hammy. He also sleeps in whichever direction the cat is, and the cat just plays with the hammy as well. (:
Here's another idea- if you don't have a bottle and straw you can just use a sheet of paper to cover the top of the bucket. Cut an x-shaped slit in the paper and sprinkle some treats/food over it preferably in the middle of it to get the hamster to walk out to where the slits are. The important thing is to make it appear solid to the hamster so they will walk on it to get the treats. Once they step onto the hole they will fall through it and into the bucket. The best part of this trap is that hamsters are curious and gullible enough (or maybe just hungry lol) to fall for the same setup over and over again! My niece had a hamster that was an escape artist and the bucket trap worked every time. Just make sure they don't fall very far or they can get badly hurt or even killed. And that there's a soft surface to land on.
I just set up exactly what you told me to do. My hamster, Dakota, got up last night. I haven't been able to find her since but I'm hoping this trap will work. My hamster is black so that makes her hard to find. Well, I see if the trap worked in the morning. We also set her wheel on the ground. We think that maybe she'll go on the wheel and the wheel makes noise so my mom or dad will hear it and go try and catch her

Fruity_gacha idk what your cage is but try replacing it with a bigger one or a taller one or one that cant be possibly escaped from look for bite marks around the house that arent normally therr

I picked up my hamster while she was in her cage, and then she quickly jumped off before I could stop her. I keep her cage on a table, so she fell down at least 11 inches but I'm glad she wasn't hurt. I panicked and just grabbed her, but not too tight and left a little open space for her head to peek through so she could breath. I put her back in her cage and she's now safe and sound. :)
My previous hamster escaped from her cage in the middle of the night, she went to my bedroom and climbed into my bed. I was very shocked to wake up to tiny footsteps on my feet!! :O
My dad has these armadillo trap thingies, that catch the animal like this; you put food in the back of the trap, the animal walks over the presure plate, the door closes. That is how I found my hamster.

My hamster went missing when I wasn’t home and we had to try and find him lol. He ripped up meh slipper and used it for bedding,found his food draw and stocked up,and basically make a little house in meh room. It was cute tbh. We put the cage on the floor and he came back cause he was thirsty and went to sleep 😂
what i did is cut long straps of aluminum paper and set them down at each door step with the doors open. and stayed up at night so it was quiet enough for me to hear when my hamster went into each room i would hear his little steps on the aluminum and catch him. so i would just sit still in the middle of the hall between all the rooms until i heard him and saw him. it was really easy because i found him right away!
Thanks for making this tutorial. I read about the bucket trap at Spruce Pets, but I wasnt sure how to make a ramp. I have some ramps, but I don't know if my baby hamster would go up the ramp. The bóok ladder is perfect. Also, the bottle on the top is very clever. Thanks for this! It saves me a lot of time screwing my ramp into a bucket. I can make two traps in a few minutes. know he's in the apartment and I took apart a small part of the kitchen wall in the corner, where there is a square column, because I heard him in there. This way, he can get some warm air because it's pretty cold in the column. I didn't see him in there, but now I don't have to worry if he goes in there again. He ate some food last night, so tonight, I'll put out the bucket traps.
my hamster escaped the other day and she got under the floorboards. we made a hole so she could get up and we put treats in the room. in the morning they where gone so we knew she was coming up ( all the doors were closed. when I knew she was coming up I started searching the internet this was the best thing and it worked my hamster is now happily home in her cage : )

Once, when my hamster had escaped, I made this and I was checking to see if there were any traces of my hamster being there. I did it a different way, though, since I'm allergic to peanut butter. So anyways I was checking the trap and saw that one of the treats on the books had been chewed. I was extremely excited. I was about to tell my family, so I turned around. My hamster was standing right there. We just stared at each other for a while until, I swear, he winked at me. What did I do? I winked back. So... long story short, we caught him, and got him a new cage. :D

When my hamster escaped a couple weeks back I was lucky enough to be home when it happened, I just had to listen for rustling and scooped her quickly into her ball while she was distracted by a treat. They do love to wind us up don't they?
My hamster actually did a flying leap and landed on the bottle, lol. So much for that haha. Don't worry, she's now safe and sound eating those homemade hamster treats you showed on a video!
My hamster Bruce decided to wander off 2 days ago. I have built the trap and it worked like a charm 👍. I sprinkled walnuts on the books and put a date paste in the bottle.
Thank you SO much Erin! I needed to set my hamster's lid up since it had fallen in the cage. I put him in my dresser, not knowing that he'd be able to get out. When I tried to find him I couldn't see him anywhere. I checked everywhere and even moved my dresser, but he wasn't there. I was super stressed at that point and so I called my sister to continue looking while I set up a rodent trap. Sure enough, I hear little paws scratching at something. It sounded like wood and it was coming from my dresser. My mom urged me to take out the drawers and when I did, I found my little roborovorski dwarf in the opening, shaking, but at the same time he'd smelt the peanut butter and tried to escape. I took him and put him back in his cage and he seemed to calm down a bit.
It worked!!! Ours got loose and had been gone for 2 days. Set this us before work and she was right back in her cage when I came home! Thanks!
My aunt has a hamster and the hamster somehow escapes during the wee hours of the morning to play with her cat, then goes back in the cage when she wakes up.

He also sleeps in whichever direction the cat is, and the cat just plays with the hammy as well. (:
Here's another idea- if you don't have a bottle and straw you can just use a sheet of paper to cover the top of the bucket. Cut an x-shaped slit in the paper and sprinkle some treats/food over it preferably in the middle of it to get the hamster to walk out to where the slits are. The important thing is to make it appear solid to the hamster so they will walk on it to get the treats. Once they step onto the hole they will fall through it and into the bucket. The best part of this trap is that hamsters are curious and gullible enough (or maybe just hungry lol) to fall for the same setup over and over again! My niece had a hamster that was an escape artist and the bucket trap worked every time. Just make sure they don't fall very far or they can get badly hurt or even killed. And that there's a soft surface to land on.
I just set up exactly what you told me to do. My hamster, Dakota, got up last night. I haven't been able to find her since but I'm hoping this trap will work. My hamster is black so that makes her hard to find. Well, I see if the trap worked in the morning. We also set her wheel on the ground. We think that maybe she'll go on the wheel and the wheel makes noise so my mom or dad will hear it and go try and catch her
I just check. She didn't even get near it. All the things were still there. Any other ideas?
+Turtle Sisters search really good and make sure you dont let wires near the ground so your hamster wont bite and die, eventually he has to come to the food

This was a really awesome video! I had heard about the bucket trap. But I never heard of the water bottle idea. Because I was thinking my hamsters are not just going to walk and fall right into the bucket. So the water bottle idea is great! Thank you for sharing! :)

I picked up my hamster while she was in her cage, and then she quickly jumped off before I could stop her. I keep her cage on a table, so she fell down at least 11 inches but I'm glad she wasn't hurt. I panicked and just grabbed her, but not too tight and left a little open space for her head to peek through so she could breath. I put her back in her cage and she's now safe and sound. :)

My previous hamster escaped from her cage in the middle of the night, she went to my bedroom and climbed into my bed. I was very shocked to wake up to tiny footsteps on my feet!! :O

My dad has these armadillo trap thingies, that catch the animal like this; you put food in the back of the trap, the animal walks over the presure plate, the door closes. That is how I found my hamster.

My hamster went missing when I wasn’t home and we had to try and find him lol. He ripped up meh slipper and used it for bedding,found his food draw and stocked up,and basically make a little house in meh room. It was cute tbh. We put the cage on the floor and he came back cause he was thirsty and went to sleep 😂
what i did is cut long straps of aluminum paper and set them down at each door step with the doors open. and stayed up at night so it was quiet enough for me to hear when my hamster went into each room i would hear his little steps on the aluminum and catch him. so i would just sit still in the middle of the hall between all the rooms until i heard him and saw him. it was really easy because i found him right away!

Thanks for making this tutorial. I read about the bucket trap at Spruce Pets, but I wasnt sure how to make a ramp. I have some ramps, but I don't know if my baby hamster would go up the ramp. The bóok ladder is perfect. Also, the bottle on the top is very clever. Thanks for this! It saves me a lot of time screwing my ramp into a bucket. I can make two traps in a few minutes. know he's in the apartment and I took apart a small part of the kitchen wall in the corner, where there is a square column, because I heard him in there. This way, he can get some warm air because it's pretty cold in the column. I didn't see him in there, but now I don't have to worry if he goes in there again. He ate some food last night, so tonight, I'll put out the bucket traps.
my hamster escaped the other day and she got under the floorboards. we made a hole so she could get up and we put treats in the room. in the morning they where gone so we knew she was coming up ( all the doors were closed. when I knew she was coming up I started searching the internet this was the best thing and it worked my hamster is now happily home in her cage : )

I lost my baby Sterling for a terrifying hour and found his chubby butt in the hamster food bin eating a pea. I was so happy and also laughed at how he went STRAIGHT for the stash.
Another clever way of using this trick is to fill the bottom of the bucket with water. All the hamsters that fall in will drown which eliminates the need to provide them with housing while still keeping your house hamster-free.

I and my husband and kids can't thank you enough for putting this video...we lost our little guy the first night we got him home and it was a very sad Christmas for us...yesterday we came across this video and gave it a try and voila` he was in it this morning!!!!!!! Once, when my hamster had escaped, I made this and I was checking to see if there were any traces of my hamster being there. I did it a different way, though, since I'm allergic to peanut butter. So anyways I was checking the trap and saw that one of the treats on the books had been chewed. I was extremely excited. I was about to tell my family, so I turned around. My hamster was standing right there. We just stared at each other for a while until, I swear, he winked at me. What did I do? I winked back. So... long story short, we caught him, and got him a new cage. :D
