Instead of popping them out by force, which may cause damage, use a small flathead to lift the C-clip/band (at each end) the ball joint will be exposed with no force needed.

Very grateful that you posted this. It just happened to my Sorento and it was just that easy. It goes to show, there is nothing to small to post, because someone somewhere will have the same problem.

Thank you! We debated if it was too small of a thing to share, but said oh well, you never know. Lol

I'm changing mine today. You don't need to use brute force. There's a clamp you can pop up a little on the arms and they pop off super easy.

This is so awesome! I was scrolling through looking for a totally unrelated part for my mom's car and I saw your familiar face. Love your word of God videos. Anyways, my hatch has been falling on my head lately 😖 so I decided to watch this video till the end... praise God! So simple, thanks y'all

After watching it I changed both struts on my 2008 Toyota Matrix quite easily. Awsome video and thank you for sharing !!!

How did you align the struts so they face the ball joints? Mine came misaligned.

Thank you so much, it worked!!! I have a 2010 Kia Rio, so the bottoms were stuck on pretty tight, and a screw driver wasn't working - I ended up using a thick file, and it took a while, but they popped off -- You saved me the trouble of having to go to my mechanic!!

Thanks for making the effort to show us all how to do this. My wife has one of these Kia's with the same issue. it's the second one we've had, brilliant little cars, they sell here in Australia with a 10 year warranty

This was so helpful and got right to the meaty part of what I need to know. I also really like how you and your daughter (I think she's your daughter lol) interact and that she was the fixer in this video. Thanks for this informative video! It was the 2nd one I found on a Google search of how to install 2011 Kio Soul hatchback struts

Thanks for this video. I did loosen the side clips as suggested in another comment. Popped in and out just as you described. The link is no longer active, but the parts are still on Amazon.

Bought the same $20 supports and noticed when the hatch opens to the end it vibrates as it should be slowing down first. Exactly what happens in your video, as it wears over time won't be an issue hope it doesn't do any damage before then. Different video with $80 supports did not have this issue, they slow down right before fully open.

2016 kia rio, not surprised, kia and hyundai start falling apart after 2 years. Disposed my first and last hyundai after 2 years when small things started failing on a monthly basis.
My 2012 car still has original struts working fine. Sad part is that the Chinese replacement might not last 1 year

I've never seen anyone completely ignore the locking retainer clips on struts and just tear the strut off.. Awesome!🙃
HOWEVER,... MAYBE, ....as for the next time, or for anyone that may stumble across this thread and wants to reduce the risk of converting a (skill level-1) job into a (skill-level 5+)-ish ,------>Stick a small flat-head screwdriver, a fork-prong, or even a wooden skewer(maybe), behind the C-clip (that thing that looks like a flat metal band) in the plastic ball-socket(One on each end of the strut), pop-it off all the way or partially(I always just pop-em off all the way)..... SURPRISE; The strut literally falls right off into your hand. [Ripping them off as demonstrated can easily chip paint, bend the sheet-metal, and more importantly easily snap the ball right off it's post..... (Replacing that ball , on most vehicles, IS NOT FUN!)

    • @gordonrenfrow9509
      @gordonrenfrow9509 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Exactly, it's 💯 % easier when done with the clip. No brute force needed at all.

@ 2:18 : I own a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser and I have replaced my lift supports twice now ! I live in Florida and the
very hot summers deteriorates the insides of the support lifts . They seem to fail after about three years .
I noticed something very familiar with me and that is "MADE IN CHINA" . China does not make quality parts
as I have learned . I think that my lift supports were "MADE IN CHINA" and that is why they failed after three
years . To replace my lift supports would cost me $70.00 for both units . I forgot about replacing them and I
bought a walking cane for about $10.00 , extended it to its maximum length , and I use it to hold the hatch open .
I bought a four way lug wrench that was "MADE IN CHINA" and I broke it trying to remove a "frozen" lug nut .
I looked around town and found one made in Taiwan or South Korea , tried it on a "frozen" lug nut and it did not
    break . I still have it !
