  • Heard of DLSS but not sure what it is? Watch this video to learn all about it and why it's great for running games on 4K displays.
    If you’re a PC gamer you might have noticed a new setting popping up in your games as of late, DLSS. And because you clicked on this video then you probably saw that setting and went, “I don’t know what that is. Should I turn it on? What does it do?” Well that’s what we're gonna answer for you.
    The above video explains how DLSS works for your PC, and how games like Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Watch Dogs: Legion utilize it.

    it's basically real time AI upscaling.
    you can use this to get higher resolution with less performance loss, however combine that with the DSR function and you get a really good anti aliasing solution. (fun fact: DLSS was originally pitched as an Anti Aliasing solution)

    • @ykn05010

      Any games support both DSR and DLSS?

    • @WednesdayMan
      @WednesdayMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@ykn05010 pretty sure every game that supports DLSS supports DSR. you just have to enable DSR in the Nvidia control panel, DSR is just a resolution trick that enables a user to run a higher resolution than their display then have that higher resolution downscaled to match their display for Anti Aliasing purposes (for example using 4x DSR on 1080p monitor would have the user run 4k and have that 4k downscaled to 1080p for anti aliasing.)
      essentially DSR is just running a higher resolution than your display and having the GPU downscale back down to match your display's resolution.

      Do you mean the super sampling, rendering higher than native, to get better picture quality? I think that's kind of the 'opposite' of dlss.
      I think this is possible from what I recall others have said.
      As you're currently rendering higher than native, I doubt you're in it for the fps, or maybe that would be a nice add?
      I think I read about dlss automatically being disabled, though from trying fsr there was 2 options, manual with a number of settings, and a fps target, automatically adjusting.
      You'll probably want to use the highest quality, so maybe you'll render 1.25x native as you are now, and dlss would upsample that to a higher resolution and then the super sampling would then down sample that to your monitors resolution.
      Unless 8 K dlss was only for 8 K dsplays, I would have thought people were talking about 'super sampling' a dlss image.

    DLSS is great...and pretty much a requirement if you're using raytracing in games like Cyberpunk. Just got the 3080ti and tested it out and blown away with Raytracing. My 6700k CPU is old and being bottlenecked but the bottleneck is mostly when running at 1080p. At 1080p CPU is bottlenecked by 28% but I run most games these days at 4K so I am bottlenecked by about 9%.. Will probably upgrade CPU/motherboard in a year or so. No need to just yet.

    why is it called super sampling if it's an upscaler? it's taking a low res image and *upscaling* it.

    In a many cases DLSS looks better than native 4k. Death stranding is a very good example of this. DF did a great video on this. Truth be told you should always keep DLSS on, the extra frames are worth it and upsampling to 4k is near indistinguishable from the native stuff unless you’re really trying hard to find a difference. If you’re actually playing the game and not pixel peeping, it’ll be more than fine! Plus, upsampling is exactly how the new consoles are rendering at 4k.

    • @atthelord

      @Cross country mechanical how does Sony figure in to this? :/ both consoles upsample.. they’re def not the end all be all, which I can agree to, but some of their content is informative for sure. LTT has similar results too about how good upsampling/DLSS looks.

All the bigger media has Sony bias, most people just enjoy gaming.

    • @necromancer234
      @necromancer234 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is the other way round, you should use downsampling, force your gpu tu render at a higher resolution. If you have nvidia you will find it at the control panel DSR , you enable 1.78 which is 2 k resolution. you start any game and it lets you choose 1440p even if your monitor only is 1080p , then your gpu renders the image at 2k and sends it to the monitor. now you a much sharper image and it will look much better. dlss is just when you have a display that is higher resolution take some load away from the gpu.

    • @BryAlrighty
      @BryAlrighty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ignore Daniel Chamoun, he's not very bright.
      Image quality has a negligible difference. DLSS doesn't downsample, it actually upscales utilizing AI tensor cores found in your RTX GPU based on an algorithm produced through machine learning. It utilized various techniques to produce an image on par with a higher resolution, without requiring that resolution's native pixel count.
      For instance, if you've set DLSS to 1440p, it actually takes a 720p image and utilizes these techniques to produce a quality 1440p image on your monitor. This is why you gain frames.. it's technically a 720p image reproduced to be 1440p using AI, so you're getting a similar FPS to if you were playing 720p natively, but you're seeing a nice crisp 1440p image.
      And if you've got DLSS at 4k, it's taking a 1080p image and doing the same thing. Reproducing it via its algorithm to match the look of a 4k image by figuring out what the missing pixel information _should_ look like at 4k. But since it was originally a 1080p image, you're gaining FPS than if you were playing in native 4k.
      In many instances, the image produced by DLSS can actually produce a sharper image than native.

    • @erkki542
      @erkki542 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      its always the half of the target. so for 1440p its 720p and 1080p its 540p. sounds low yes but the image quality is even better than native. its fucking magic.

    • @BryAlrighty
      @BryAlrighty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's usually half resolution, or a 4x multiplier. So half the resolution of 4k (2160p) is 1080p. But it doesn't _just_ upscale. It utilizes various techniques in its algorithm to try to reproduce the image at the higher resolution without a noticeable loss in image quality. At least DLSS 2.0 does.. DLSS 1.9 and earlier are a fairly blurry mess.
