    Lemons sprout easily from the seed found inside the fruit, but growing a lemon tree from a seed just because you can isn't always smart.
    If you want to go ahead and plant a lemon seed, then they are grown the same way as mandarins and other citrus.
    Do not set the seeds aside to dry like regular seeds. Drying lemon tree seeds reduces the germination rate drastically.
    Wash the seed in plain water to remove any sugar sticking to the seed coat. Place the seed in a cup of warm water and let it soak overnight.
    To store the citrus seeds, place them on a moist paper towel. Keep about three times the amount of seeds that you want to plant in case some of them are not viable.
    Wrap the seeds in the damp towel and place them inside a sealable plastic bag. Place the bag in the refrigerator.
    Keep your growing lemon tree seeds in an area that is around 70 degrees F. (21 C.); the top of the fridge is ideal. Once the seedlings emerge, move the container into brighter light and remove the plastic.
    When the seedlings have several sets of leaves, transplant them to larger, 4- to 6-inch (10-15 cm.) pots

    Hi, i see that the bottom leaves of the lemon plant in the video have some brown patches. This is happening to my plant too, the bottom leaves are falling but new leaves are growing too. Is this normal?

    So I have a lemon tree had it for a while it's been in a 2 liter bottle I cut and I turned the bottle to a self watering pot. My question is will the citrus plant produce lemons I read on Google it be a different variety from the actual lemon I got the seeds from is that true?

    • @rafaelramos441
      @rafaelramos441 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Citrus has 2 types of seeds, one type are clones of the mother tree (seed parent), the other type are normal results of pollination between the seed parent and pollen parent (it can be the same flower, or tree). In the case of the clonal seed (nucellar embryo) it will definitely be a lemon. In the case of normal (zygotic) embryos the tree will be 50%, or 100 % lemon dependent on whether the pollen was from a lemon tree, or a different Citrus tree. These plants will be variable as they are not clones of the mother tree.

    Is there any sign it is going to produce lemons

    how long do a lemon tree or mandarine tree takes to flowering ?

    • @karrotizhealthy
      @karrotizhealthy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine flowers at around 10-11 months and it starts to produce fruits at around 320 days and the lemons ripen at exactly 1 year old

    • @rafaelramos441
      @rafaelramos441 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      First fruiting of Citrus is variable, dependent on cultivar and care the tree receives. First flowers develop near the top of the tree, so pruning is ill advised. Key limes and Kumquats can fruit within the first 2 years, Grapefruit and Sweet Orange can take a decade, or longer. Mandarins are intermediate with 5-8 being common, although there may be exceptions for well grown trees.

    I'd like to know if you can do this with other seeds such as apple? Can you also explain why the lemon plant produced from the seeds wouldn't be what they call a lemon? Its confusing to me...LOL! Why wouldn't it produce a lemon if its from the mother plant?

      Do your seeds sprout in the bag?

    • @mygardenchannel
      @mygardenchannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      put the seeds in the fridge for 3 weeks.. or the lemons, then harvest the seeds for planting... this is cold stratification... this will help your success

    • @rafaelramos441
      @rafaelramos441 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mygardenchannel Cold stratification is unnecessary for subtropical Citrus, it may be helpful for temperate Citrus such as C. trifoliata.

    • @rafaelramos441
      @rafaelramos441 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do not allow the seed to dry beyond superficial surface drying. Plant as soon as possible. No need for paper towels, can plant directly into moist (not soaking wet) potting soil. Optimum temperature is 86 deg. F. Too hot with kill, too cold will rot, too wet will rot, and to dry will desiccate. Planting a few bean seeds as indicator plants may be helpful until the Citrus are up and going. If the beans fail, conditions aren't right for the Citrus either.
