    I love Ontario Knives, great blades at very reasonable prices. I own a SP46 and absolutely love it, but would like to add a larger blade to my kit...I'm actually looking at the SP50 for heavy duty backcountry wood processing. This was a great video and I enjoyed watching!

    Hey brother you should let people know that there is a huge difference between those pallets that have blue paint on them and the plain ones....them blue ones are built to last companies for many years unlike the crappy thin basic pallets.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Airik1111 Yeah, I have encountered many different pallets over the years of my wars on pallets. The blue ones are particularly fierce opponents, I use a couple of them as the base for my throwing knife stand.

    Great video! I am in between the sp5 and the marine bowie. Think I like the classic look of the marine Bowie. But I also like the flat grind of the sp5. Damn it have to get both now!

    • @ArcticGator
      @ArcticGator 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michigan edge I use the sp5 like a short machete, it's light and fast and great on thin green stuff and small saplings, it chops pretty decently too with that flat grind it bites deeper than my kabar kukri but the kukri being much heavier and having the kukri shape chops better despite having the weird grind on it, i have wanted the marine raider for awhile now as well.

    I can't believe that the sp53 is only up to $70. It seems to be an affordable hatchet knife for those who want to avoid over/understrike while gaining de-limbing/brush clearing ability. It has prying and some digging ability as well. I chopped a small rock in half with minimal edge damage. Regarding it not being full width, full tang. I got mine for $60 each. I would've bought it sans handle.

Yup, it's that time of year to bring this combo out to process firewood with them. Although I could baton with both of them, I still like using my Ranger T. F. I. to make kindling with it. Infact early on in Fall Weather all I do is add a Saw and that's it. Great Review Thanx You, Is.,,. p

    Say Heah Is, I think for the size, my O. K. C. Gen2 SP-53 will stand up to a E-Nap pound for pound. It's still one of my Fav's Chopper's for the $$$, only comparable to some of my Busse Combat large Battle Mistress and my large Nuclear Meltdown Fussion Steel Heart, etc. But they aren't cheap. So yeah for the $$$ it's still one of my Fav's that so far no other can match. Infact I teamed mine with my Ranger T. F. I. also a 1/4" of 5160 and a 5 1/4 blade, that holds a pretty good edge retention. Yeah, when I bought my Ranger T. F. I. they use to Temper them at 58 HRC. But because some chipped, they lowered it to 54 HRC. still holding a decent edge retention. I love mine at 58 HRC. because I was aware of chipping on that 5160 steel. Anyhow, it's still one of my Fav's. Combo's for cold weather trips. I just got my new Ka-Bar ZK Pestilence Chopper's, Infact I put some Brown Handles from one of my Johnson Adventure Parangatang's, Yeah, I like to color match my knives. Anyhow I took it out and teamed it with my vintage Blind Horse Bushcrafter with a flatter polished natural micarta handle which is a tough knife to match with a Larger Knife, It was for me because alot of my knives have black handles. I did the color changes for both the Pestilence Chopper and my Parangatang, Yup, The Handles interchange. I don't like that Pea Green Handles, they look like a Fantasy Toy for a knife, Yeah, My ZK Swabbie, and ZK Zomstro both have the black handle's. Infact, I seen a ZK Swabbie and ZK Zomstro on sale along with some other's. Infact I paid $80.00 for both of my ZK Pestilence Chopper's including shipping. I don't know how long the sale will last. But as of the beginning of October, 2017 they were on sale. There is no way will the ZK Pestilence Chopper out chop my SP-53, but it's just what the Doctor ordered, heh heh heh taking both out on my Afternoon Delight, Yup a hot cup of Coffee A La Mors, eveporated milk with a little honey and Paul'ies A La Chicken and Dumplings, Hmmmmmm mmmmmm good, Oh, Yeah, and a couple of good cigars (Los Blanco's) I also love my vintage Gerber Multi Tool that I like using to open can's, and with a Awl, with caution I untangle paracord, and use it to take hot pot's off the fire. Since a Soldier's life was saved when a bullet richocheteed off his Gerber Multi Tool, I became a Gerber Guy (Gerber Multi Tool). So, Yeah, call Kristi at Ka-Bar, She's quite a Gal. Tell me which one you bought Ok. Dilly, Dilly.,,.p

    Lol every bowie knife I have ever picked up without a cross guard felt kind of awkward, almost like a naked feeling. Kind of wish the sp5 had that nice big guard like the sp10, I would probably buy it in a heart beat if it did. I finally pulled the trigger on the sp10, it hits a little harder than my Junglas but even after re-profiling and sharpening the edge on the sp10 it does not sink as deep as the Junglas. I think it has something to do with the Junglas being a nearly flat grind.

    • @sergeantdef.3572
      @sergeantdef.3572 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then you would feel yourself very naked in the times that Jim Bowie was alive..
      Cross guards on the Bowie knife started around the civil war..
      In orgine the Bowie did not had a Cross guard..and when they getted the Cross guard the most People cutted it off..
      But i understand what you mean..ounce i had the same feeling..

  • @ricev7071

    Actually, the SP-10 is not 1095 but 1075. Go to their website and you will see for yourself. I was going to buy the SP-10 till I found that out, I bought the SP-5 instead and never looked back. The SP5 is the king of Ontario knives, and the toughest. I am very happy I bought the SP-5. Too bad they lowered the quality of steel for the SP-10.

    2) What is the SP10 blade thickness? do u mind measuring it yourself please? (several online knife co's say different specs for this and ontario website doesn't even state the thickness) grrrrr

    So did you notice a difference in performance between the full flat grind blades and the saber grind of the bowie? When you used them on the log did one of them have more trouble in concerns to removing the blade from the wood? i only ask because ive never trying chopping with a saber style blade.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flat grind SP5 sinks in deeper, but can also get stuck easier, whereas the other two tend to chop bigger chunks out of the target and split it better.
