    good review, I've had my trail master for over 20 years now and its still going strong.

      iv had mine for 10 and unfortunately noticed cracks last week along the back edge. In looking for a replacement if it fails. I find so many of the awesome badass survival knives that were available at the time have ceased producion. The RD9, the kabar heavy bowie, the entire spec plus series. its unfortunate.

    • @dennisleighton2812
      @dennisleighton2812 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Carolinacaveman Exactly! And the Trail Master is clearly one that has survived the longest and still makes nearly all the Top big knives lists!
      If I could give advice, you might consider the TM San Mai III version. That full convex blade makes it a real beast. I must warn you it's expensive and the sheath provided is crap. However, the knife makes up for it! And that edge!!!
      Good luck, but I hope your TM doesn't fail! Strength to the Trail Master!

    I bought a (Böker Plus Valkyrie Bowie Frankonia SpecialEdition) today and I'm absolutely delighted with it. A sheath made of saddle leather, a blade made of 440C steel, 22.5 cm long, 6 mm thick, mirkada handle scales with mosaic pins and finger grooves absolutely beautiful piece of Bowie for around €100.

    Great video and discussion on these larger knives. I've enjoyed watching it and many of your other older videos too.
    I have a few of these as well (Junglas, SP-53, SP-10, an SP-8 also) and IMO the Junglas is the best all around knife of the bunch with the SP-53 a close 2nd. I was fortunate enough to buy a Kershaw Camp 14 before they stopped production and love it too, albeit larger.
    Most of my fixed blades fall in the 6"-8" range but as the saying goes...there is no replacement for displacement !!

      Thank you for watching! I remember getting the whole Kershaw Camp series, even their Parang. The Camp 10 became hugely popular, but I always did have a soft spot for the longer ones, reminded me of shorter swords I like.

    I have that Kershaw Camp 10. I love the feel of the handle, the sheath is very cool and protects me and the blade,.... the top heavy blade makes it ideal for chopping. The length is ideal also for up close contact like a home invasion at 2AM, in a hall way. :) The Timber Rattler is on my night stand in case I have to cut some 'cheese cake' at 3AM. :) I came across a cheapo Copy by MTECH of that Cold Steel Trail Master and it is a very good one. Holds a good edge and about 1/3 the price of a real CS.
    ( I have the Camp 10 RAZOR sharp ,so Some things coming OFF) :)
    Thanks Amigo, This old Cav Scout is OUT!

    have the camp10, schf45, and bk9. love all three of of em. only had the bk9 for a couple months so I'm still putting it through the paces. one thing for sure, it being my first 1095 blade, it's a different beast to sharpen. it has stood up to EVERYTHING I've put it up against so in that regard I'm happy. the sheath tho...garbage. absolutely needs kydex. the schf45 however, I'm fairly sure I have the first "fail" video of it posted on TH-cam. in the following months there seemed to be other to surface. all of which I'm pretty sure schrade made right and replaced the damaged blades. And the good ole camp10, beat the hell outta this guy and modded the hell out of it too. great video man, get time check some of mine out and lemme know what ya think

    First. I like Cold Steel for smaller and folding knives. I purchased the Browning mostly because of your review where you talked about the convex bevel.
    I labored about buying the CS Recon Scout & Trail Master over blade & tang angle where braking might occur. For the larger knives I am particular about having a full tang. Thanks for the review.

    I used to carry a large knife for chopping when I backpacked. It was easier to slide into my pack or attach it to my pack. It worked out good and was very effective at wood processing. I liked it but some prefer an axe. The only knife I would baton with was a large thick blade but I didn’t have to do much batoning and I prefer not to. The knife I liked best was one I made, it made a lot on kindling and was 1/4 in. thick with about a 10” blade.

    Sheath - I disagree. More often than not, buyers will customise/replace the provided sheath anyway (well, the serious one anyway!). They are mostly the minimum that the knife maker thinks he can get away with.
    Personally, I own a CS Trail Master San Mai III, and it's close to the perfect knife (for my requirements and liking). Simple is king, and among great knife designers, Lynn Thompson is King! This decades-old design is still up there slugging it out with all pretenders! Great to see it on your list.

    Have to disagree with the Junglas. Just got rid of mine and couldn't be happier. The sheath is way too big and bulky and didn't fit any molle I have. The blade was thin and had all the character, feel and balance of a plank of wood. And it cost too much. I bought it to replace a beaten and broken SP5 but ended up re-grinding that and carrying it, even when the Junglas was available. Just a better knife to use.

    How do you pick your first one? I got a good deal on a BK-2. $20 bucks and no field use. I think he cut an apple with it. I love it and it's made me lean deep toward Becker's. With that said I have a friend who only buys these ridiculously expensive knives... I cannot remember the names for the life of me. They look awesome but I would hate to use them in the field for fear of breaking these beauties not to mention I don't want to need it and it fail. I never see these types of knives tested. ESEE Junglas or Ka-Bar BK21 are pretty sweet!

    • @Stassa23
      @Stassa23 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which would you go with I'm leaning towards Junglus because It already has the micarta scales but then again I could make micarta scales for the Becker. My local cabelas has a ontario sp10 for like $56 is that a descent chopper to pick up as a secondary beater chopper

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives

      I would go with the Junglas, it is time-tested and recommended by many over the years.

      Thanks that was my first choice so that will be the one I will go with. What's the name of the budget offering Winkler knives folder by I think killamanjaro probably butchered that name and how has it held up for you cause I think as soon as I can find it on Amazon I'll probably pick one up it looked like a really nice knife not to mention I love his designs

    What I need for any company that makes a survival knife to do, for those that haven't done so yet, is to upgrade their knives to have a survival kit that is available when it matters the most. Some companies have them, but others don't...

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be great, they could add a detachable pouch to the sheath to house the survival items. When I was a kid, I had one of those Bushmaster survival knives, the sheath has 3 pockets on it, it was the sh*t back then LOL.

    Wow, so many questions. Let's just buy every factory knife out there.....And settle this question. Yeah cool.... ^ 5 !
    Now here's the real scientist now!!!! Um....well everyone...
    Was hard to watch on a very personal level. Wow! Great pictures of comparisons though! ^ 5 !
    Knitting Blankets is a very rewarding thing also. Different mixtures in wool/cotton, uh.....fine patterns, one would be PROUD TO FRAME on their wall someday. Books, there's so many books.
    But here's what I can already tell you about this one. It starts like this....

      The Next time I go to the bathroom, out doors. Do I want my zipper to have a 90 degree fly? Should I file it, and round off the edges?
      Should I have a tailor, or seemstress…..Make it out of Nylon, from my own design? Or does one Just Pull It On Out, on Factory Settings? These things all must be considered. LMAO !!! ROFL !!!
      But I digress. Ok, so here's what ………..Wait. don't let me hijack this from you......

    For me, I know I want to have large fixed-blade knife, but I don't want a chopper. The chopper will already be filled by the tomahawk. So what I want is a large knife that doesn't weigh more than a pound and pairs well with the tomahawk to use Native American dual wielding techniques. The new Bark River Grizzly was closest production knife that meets my needs, with the Buck Hoodlum just behind. The only thing that would change for myself would be to make the blade a little shorter, less thick (like 3/16 of an inch), and the blade length to be longer to keep the balance it still has. Then, that will be the perfect large knife for me.

    I swear by my Cold Steel Wild West Bowie. Paired with a Buck 102 and a Buck 119 Special.
    The brass handgard loosens after lots of use of THE Wild West Bowie. But I beat the crab@#$^ out of it,.. I JB Weld the brass handgard and handle scales and now it is solid as a rock!!
    It is my grail knife,..

    I have been following your channel for a while now and have watched MOST of your reviews and certainly all of your reviews on large blades as well as defensive blades and brands I use and like (Cold Steel, ESEE, Condor etc.). I have to tell you bro this is my favorite video and in my opinion one of your best. I like the informative aspect especially from someone who actually uses the crap out of their knives and is also a collector as I can relate to both. Excellent watch. My personal favorite is still the Trailmaster in Carbon V, its my baby. But man that moonshiner and moonstalker call to me! I have watched your reviews on those blades a few times..

    What about the Ontario RTAK 2? Great video!

    • @robertcole7874
      @robertcole7874 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rtak2 is just a low quality junglas it was originally designed by r.a.t that started his own company called esee. He quit dealing with Ontario because they took his designs and made them as cheap as they could. That being said they went cheap with the fit and finish. I know this because I have a RAT5, RAT7, ESEE JUNGLAS, AND ESEE6. THE ESEE IS DEFINITELY THE WAY TO GO IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A KNIFE THATS GOING TO BE PRETTY MUCH FLAWLESS. THE RAT SERIES WOULD BE A GOOD KNIFE IF YOU WORK ON THEM AND DO YOUR OWN MODIFICATIONS. I HOPE I DIDNT COME OFF AS RUDE IN ANY WAY JUST TRYING TO HELP A FELLOW KNIFE GUY OUT.👍

      Lengren make a tanto that is 8mm thick, Sleipner steel. It is not especially long, but if you want an indestructible prybar, it might do the trick. Tanto: s71.co/3Qqz37E

      Probably the SP-53, since I carry a small slicing knife, my big knife can be more of a chopper.

      I'd go with the SP53, because of the grind and thickness, it's tougher.
