  • I made a detailed video for replacing the fork seals on a V65 Sabre. It is almost 40 minutes long, but there is a lot to it. Take note of the equalizer tube o-rings. It is a good idea to replace them while you are at it.

    I had the seals and fork oil. When my dauhter was born it was suggested I park the bike. Now that she is 21, I will put those seals on and have a great time. Those V65 Sabres are awesome!!!

    Thank you so much.
    Doing this right now on my 85 V65 Magna. Your video, this one, has helped me immensely.
    Both, with realizing that it isn't as scary as I originally feared, and with a couple of tips to make the job easier.
    Thanks!

    1" 1/2 PVC pipe to use as a seal driver. Thanks for the advice.

    I had an 85 V65 Sabre for 10 years, and was a really fun fast bike, in a straight line :)

    You have as real nice vise. Good shop too. Wish I had a shop.

      Thanks. The vise is probably older than I am. It works well. The shop is too small, but that's the way it goes. The bigger the space, the more stuff I put in it. The best thing i did after raising the ceiling was to build perimeter shelving. It let's me keep the floor space open.

    Funny thing is.. Same scenario but the opposite.. In July I did the fork seals on my 84 V65 Sabre with All balls and I must of messed up because there both leaking. Now I have Honda OEM seals that I will be putting on soon.. I had a heck of a time getting the forks on and seated and was hoping you would have shown that part but you skipped past it.. Bummer Oh well you obviously had a fun time too as you had to do it twice so I get that.. Great vid for sure by the way.. Cheer's !

      Cool. I'm glad you like it. So, how is your winter maintenance coming along?

    thumbs up. I looked at this because I cannot find the air filler port on my 1984 V65. Damned Clymer manual is worth a crap (like usual) for showing me where the port is. Hardly talks about it.

    i may have missed it, but do you know the dimensions of the crossover tube o rings?

      @mikesmotorbikegarage501  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry. I took an old one to a hydraulic shop and they measured it then ordered them. I don't remember the size.

      Even when the camera wasnt at the right angle i know what you were doing because you did a great job describing it and the corrections you had on screen.

    Hi bud, do you if V65 Magna has exactly same forks? I need to do that job on mine.

    • @mikesmotorbikegarage501
      @mikesmotorbikegarage501  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the difference is the Magna does not have the anti dive control. And it does not have the adjuster on top of the right tube, but replacing the seals should be very similar.

  • @a41Shaker
    @a41Shaker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    you are wrong in saying to be sure to put the same amount of oil in each tube, that is wrong, the one side has the anti-dive mechanism, and that side holds a little more than the other side

    • @mikesmotorbikegarage501
      @mikesmotorbikegarage501  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sorry you missed understood what I did. I did not measure the quantity of oil I used. I measured the level of the oil. 5.5 inches below the threads at the top of the tube. This gives you the same amount of air in both tubes. The air is what compresses. Not the oil. If you were to pour the oil out of each tube and measure the volumes individually, one tube will have more than the other.

      @@mikesmotorbikegarage501 My honda manual specificly says you should put 15.8 oz in the right fork and 16.7 oz in the left. Then you should measure 9.25 in for the right fork and 8.90 in for the left (measured from the top of the tube). :)

    Would doing this one a 1983 v45 sabre be similar by any chance???...

    • @mikesmotorbikegarage501
      @mikesmotorbikegarage501  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would imagine it is similar, but smaller tubes. I don't really know.

    What oil viscosity did you use? 20W?

    • @yakmalxc
      @yakmalxc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      465ghostrider looks like he used 10w

    • @mikesmotorbikegarage501
      @mikesmotorbikegarage501  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, sorry about not seeing your question. I used 10w. I read up on as much as I could before doing this, and 10w seemed to be the general desire with progressive springs. Factory calls for 15w. Everything worked out good. I am satisfied with the springs set up.
