Description:
“Like A Song” is a fan piece that encapsulates the bittersweet regret of lovers forced to part. An unfinished story, but their time together is immortalized in memories of the autumn wind, red leaves, and pear blossoms. In Chinese, the word for “pear” (梨, Lí) is a homophone for the word for separation (離, Lí), a linguistic metaphor that plays on the theme of this piece. The white fan flutters with the dancer like a lover, but both eventually choose to let go.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of our organization at UC Berkeley, Fei Tian Dancers hosted a grand showcase of cultural heritage on March 11, 2023. With preparation beginning a year in advance in May 2022, AAPI student groups presented a culmination of the past year’s efforts onstage at the “Heritage 传承” showcase. Focusing on Chinese dance & featuring various other traditional Asian art forms, “Heritage 传承” is an artistic representation of the journey of our ancestors as visualized by the diaspora.
