    Hey Zach, good to see you! I attended Quail-Con this past fall. I am hooked! Unfortunately I have been struggling to walk. But God is good! During my down time I completed Quail University and slowly collect everything I need to learn the husbandry part of raising Quail. My hip was finally replaced February 2nd and I am getting stronger everyday! I am hoping in the next several weeks. I will be making that call to you, to order live birds! Can't thank you enough for having the passion to help people like me, to be able to grow our own food.😊

    The poop really enhanced my compost too. Better producing gardens. They are egg but poop machines too. How they manage to get it that far amazes me. I put Amazon boxes to good use to catch some then replace. A power washer makes things easier. I use a shed as raccoons got my first batch and pretty gruesome. Raccoons can get through chicken wire but not hardware cloth but still risky. They climb and can dig under if using the ground. Big learning curve. Real cold winter, I just use bowls and change often when below zero for awhile. Heater in a large stock pot is okay for a bit but at certain temps the water lines freeze. Weather won. Homesteader channels that show quail must've cleaned just before filming. 😂Waiting on some good hot days for a thorough cleaning so I can be done in a day. Also put in a greenhouse fan for summer. Really helps and doors open when I'm around during the day on good days. Predators usually stick to coming out at night. I need to do some adjustments on watering system again.

      Get dogs. We live on Bear Mountain in BC Canada, and the bears are the least of the predators here. Coyotes, wolves, Bobcats and coons are all ample.
      We raise up livestock guard dogs, so we have NO problems at all.
      Our dogs stay IN our barn coops with the chickens, goats, turkeys and ducks.
      Check us out at kingdom Living St. Bernards or Kingdom Living Homestead!

      @@malachigreenidge Highly allergic to dogs is why or I'd have a German Shepherd. Pretty gentle with cats I've noticed through my life too. Though seen Labs munch on small things like mice and chipmunks that can get into feed if not in a can or in a secured building. Rotties are big lap dogs but many will eat furniture if bored.😆Knew a Rottie breeder and a common problem if you can't be there alot. Became allergic for some reason as I got older. Had dogs when younger okay. Eyes water, sneezing, itchy and all that fun now.

    Hey Zack, I've never seen a good approximation of the amount of meat from a particular size bird, as the explanation is usually 2 birds per person or whatever. Could you tell us on average what to expect for weight after processing both a 12 oz and a 16 oz bird. Since every person is different, knowing the amount of meat to expect, will help for planning protein quantity in meals, and will then help folks to decide on which birds they might prefer to raise. Thanks for all of the info, and nice to see you back with more content. 😉

    • @MyshireFarm
      @MyshireFarm  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is about a 2/3 of live weight when butcher

    Hi there, I have just hatched some Japanese contournix quails that all were very healthy to begin with, yesterday I noticed one with its neck crooked and rolling around. Found it has died this morning and now another quail chick is acting the same way!? Do you know why this would be and if I can stop it from happening to all of them

    I am planning on getting into quail farming this year and I am torn between indoor vs outdoor/aviary type raising. Do you know if NPIP considers outdoor raised quail as less ideal? I would like them to have a more "natural" area, but I want quality and healthiest birds over all.

    • @MyshireFarm
      @MyshireFarm  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Either one works. And NPIP does not care

    Zach, you’re a good guy, and this is a helpful channel, but please get rid of the “half-and-half”flag. I love my American friends and family, but I am offended by your mutilation of the Canadian flag and I’m sure there are many on your side of the border that are offended as well.

    • @micheledau1294
      @micheledau1294 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mercy. Fly them both side by side (well...😊), but yes, please, not a flag merge! Your videos are super helpful by the way. Getting me on my way to quail ownership!!

      American here, I'm not offended by much. Certainly not the merging of two flags. If it was inside a government building or such, I'd cringe.
      I am though, completely baffled as to why an American seeking to become self sufficient would move to a place like Canada.
      Prime Minister Blackface hasn't been too kind to farmers and homesteaders the last few years. Things are likely to only get worse for those looking for that kinda lifestyle.
      Odd y'all ended up with a guy like him but find offense when a Canadian flag dresses half American. 🤷
