He was one of the best performers of all time. I never truly enjoyed his music when I was growing up, but now I am in my early 60's and this is what singing is all about. RIP Frankie. Thanks for all the great music you left behind for us to enjoy
No one could attack a lyric like Frankie Laine. There's fire and brimstone in that brilliant voice and this song is the perfect showcase for it. Magnificent
I always enjoyed touring with Frank. I'm the lead trumpet player here. When I first joined him, Irene and I hadn't had a honeymoon yet. He had me bring her down to Plymouth in the southwest of the UK and he paid for everything. He also gave us some Waterford glasses as a wedding present.
What a wonderful experience that must be for you to be able to think back and remember. I would have been thrilled to have seen one live performance, but to have been a key part of the music;.....that had to be awsome. Thanks for sharing!!
I PLAYED DRUMS FOR FRANKIE LANE WHEN IN THE THE SHOW BAND ON THE ROTTERDAM WORLD CRUISE. IT WAS A PARTICULARY THRILL FOR ME BECAUSE MY FRIENDS AND I USED TO HANG OUT IN FRONT OF THE RECORD SHOP NEAR THE FAIRMOUNT THEATER IN THE BRONX, LISTENING TO ALL FRANKIE LANES'S LATEST RECORDS THOUGH THE SPEAKER OF THE RECORD STORE AND THAT GOT ME INTERESTED IN MUSIC.
Frankie was of my era ,the era of all the great singers and big band music ,wish I could go back to that time .it was a great time to be a teenager ,altho we wernt called teenagers then .we were just young folks .
I was going to be a famous singer when I was tounger. The only thing that stopped me was.......my voice!! I lived in a town called Saugerties, N.Y. (home of night show host & a friend Jimmy Fallon) which is at the foot of the Catskills. Woodstock 2 was held just outside of town. I saw David Blatt (ie) Jay black & the Americanss, Frankie Valli, Joe Piscopo (nice guy) at a catskills club called Friar Tucks. I've been a Frankie Laine fan for years, and again what a memory for you. Thanks again!
We actually were even closer neighbors at one time. I graduated from Kingston High School. Our schools were sports rivals for years. I also used to trout fish close to or behind a knife factory in Ellenville. I went to a company cook out at Kuthsers quite some time ago. That was the only time I was ever there but I had a great time It was quite a classy place. I don't get back to N.Y. as much as I would like to. I still have family there that I don't see as much as I should.
THANKS A LOT. I DID NOT EXPECT A REPLY. YES IT WAS GREAT. I HAD PLAYED FRANKIE EARLIER IN MY CAREER AT SOME CATSKILL HOTELS IN A SHOW BAND. THIS TIME HE DID ALL HIS MATERIAL AND 2 SHOWS A NIGHT SO IT WAS GREAT. THE ONLY THING I WAS TO SHY AND DID NOT WANT TO BOTHER HIM WHEN WE WENT TO THE BUFFER , TO GO UP TO HIM AND TELL HIM HOW GREAT HE WAS. THANKS AGAIN.
I KNEW THE SHRADE KNIFE FACTORY IT WAS WORLD FAMOUS FOR GREA KNIFES. I JUST CAME BACK FROM N.Y SATURDAY WHERE I VISITED MY FAMIL IN YONKERS AND BROOKLYN. WHERE TO YOU LIVE NOW?
This is quite an amazing performance, on a high age performing live at such speed... Cince Mafia 2 this man has a special place... @ older people: games can sometimes give us good things ;)
Written by Wayne Shanklin, who also wrote "The Big Hurt," "Primrose Lane," "The Dream," and others. How do I know? Simple. When I was a performer, he wrote, produced and arranged three songs for me to record. Wayne, passed away, as did his son J.R. J.R., was also involved in those productions.

I THINK HIS WIFE HAD A BAKE SHOP THERE. HE DIED EARLIER THIS YEAR.

FRANKIE LAINE UNO DE LOS MEJORES EXPONENTES MUSICALES DEL MUNDO . UN CLASICO ETERNO.
A Star.
And one can understand every word! These days subtitles are essential.
By the way, this was taped in the early 70's.
@Maffia2HomeMadeVideo Frankie Laine died in 2007 a few weeks before his 94th birthday. Great singer, great man.

@theggbros ..LOL...So did my Mother....I can remember playing it on an old 78rpm player as a child
I can remember the flip side as well...
@Tommmmson I'm with you. I'm on this page right now simply because I just heard this song in Mafia 2.
Forgot to mention that, J.R. produced a "Single" for me, in 1972.
There's plenty of Jezebel/Devil worshippers in the world; Much truth in these lyrics.
yes I do enjoy this song. Art h
By the way, Wayne Shanklin, also wrote "Chanson D'Amour."

oh, i like his general Custer look, neather the accent is far away... :)
This sound sooo much like "mule train"....hahahaha
anna calvi's cover of it is like a million times better
Older version is better. There's more talking than singing. But this is my favorite song in Mafia 2.
Lady
Ra-ta-da-ta-da, right?
I think he looked stoned
no need for the wig, the voice is enough
Its not frankie laine
Great singer but unfortunantely his age is showing in this one (it catches up to us all in the end sadly)
yes he looked a bit drunk
This is the worst this song has sounded
no need for the wig
