As a child, I often sang the song "Just walking in the rain" when I walked home from school in the rain, without realising it at the time

As a teenager way back in the 1950s, Johny Ray, Guy Mitchell and Frankie Laine ruled the hit parade. Still remember all three with much affection. So grateful that material such as this is available via the internet. Thank you so very much. Kind regards to any fans who may be listening to this. July 2022.

I'm a 42 year old guy, and I'm looking into the history of pop music. I've always looked for what's influenced the people I've liked, and who they currently like, being young I always went forward.
But, this right here is the bridge that connected big band at it's top, but his performance is pure rock and roll.
Ps I'll show my daughter this,

My Dad had a restaurant and would let the teens come in and dance on Friday and Saturday nights.....It was a wonderful time....so many great songs like this one and so many others still linger in my mind...my wife is amazed at the fact that I sill remember all the words to hundreds and hundreds of songs from the 50s. 1950-1955. The biggest male singers, according to record sales, were Johnnie Ray, Guy Mitchell, Frankie Laine, Nat "King" Cole, Tony Bennett, Eddie Fisher and Perry Como. But in 1952, girl singers were prominent, and towards the end of the year, they dominated the charts with hit after hit. Jo Stafford, Rosemary Clooney, Vera Lynn, Kay Starr, Georgia Gibbs, Teresa Brewer, Patti Page and Joni James were some who reached the top of the charts.

Johnny Ray had some beautiful songs. Love The Little White Cloud that Cried. He put such total feeling into each song as did Frankie Lane and another of my favorites Harry Belafonte. The singers from that period were and still are to my way of thinking the best. The songs made a bit more sense at that time too. Would like to correspond with anyone that feels the same way. Thanks for bringing these back for pure pleasure. God bless.

My dad was a massive Johnny Ray fan. Years ago when I was very young, I learnt this song for his birthday. There I was belting it out "all because my heart, all because my heart, all because my heart," didn't know there was a scratch on LP and the song jumped. Honestly thought he repeated that line three times. Still find it difficult to sing this song without repeating that line.

I'm sorry for your loss Julie, stay strong, she'll always be with you no matter where you go.
Me and My Mum are ridiculously close. I couldn't live without my Mum, I'm 21 while she's 41.
And just the slight thought of losing her is horrifying, I honestly think I'd lose my Mind(Literally), I don't even live with her.

The incredible about Johnny Ray was that he was almost completely deaf and wore hearing aids, you can see the wire from his left ear. Thanks for turning me onto this great performer. Cry by Johnnie is an amazing tune also. I am 61 and still listen to rock but these guys were amazing.

From what I read he was partially deaf in his left ear, no where near completely! Could not sing like that if he was near completely. But anyway, I agree, amazing and very underrated performer who also had some wonderful acting talent, but only made one film. Check him out in There's no Business Like Show business from 1954.

Years ago Johnny Ray came to our high
school and put on a show, after he preformed, he went into the audience and kissed several of the girls. My sister Nancy was one of those girls. When he went back up on the stage, he said"Hey, she kissed me back"

I love the sound and style of Johnnie Ray. He seems to have incorporated much of the style of the early R&B artists from the Ink Spots to the Clyde McFatter-era Drifters while adding his own zest.

Johnny Ray was an amazing artist. He was almost completely deaf, yet he had perfect pitch when he sang and could play the piano beautifully. Isn't it amazing that even though we may have disabilities, our Lord gives us talents to overshadow the disabilities. Love this man and his voice. So very sad that today's music is just screaming, one note kind and not the melodic type I grew up hearing.

Nobody can sing like Johnnie Ray, got both Bear Family Records Box Sets that are a total kaleidoscope of phenomenal performances, induct this brilliant original to "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" where he belongs, even Tony Bennett cites him as a true innovator bringing in rock & r&b in the early 50's plus his loose on stage performance before Elvis!
