I bought this on the day of release, worked 8 hours with it in my locker then finally got to go home and play it. That shift took an eternity. I played about an hour and fell asleep drawing from the flies outside Balamb. Then for the only time in my life before or since, I slept for 12 hours straight. Woke up in time to start my next shift at work, no time to play. Another eternity waiting 8 hours to get home and play it properly. Now decades later i'm watching this long play to help get me off to sleep lol I wish I could still cry like I did at the ending to this the first few times I played it. I played Eyes on Me at my wedding reception

Not mine as FF6 was better. The AI for dynamic difficulty was just horrible to fight Codemasters back in the day. NOw mods can do it better and SE layed off the cheat issues for an SP game no less without trophies back in the day as they were none back in the 90s and 80s.
This Balamb Garden music is so soothing. Ever since playing this the tune got stuck in my head and it’s my ideal school environment background music. For a perfect imaginary school, obviously.

Because of the Junction system, the complex and confusing storyline (which, in my opinion, is a good thing, because it keeps mystery and eerieness, which I love) and the very interesting battle system, along with originality and high amount of scope. Definitely a memorable final fantasy for me. When I first started playing, I was wowed.
Finally, proper long play! Right aspect ratio, right main character name, and text is shown long enough to keep up with it. Thanks and keep up the good work. PS. If you could play PC version it would've been even better. ;)

They will not because ff8 not very popular compared to other FFs. It is understandable due to not many likeable characters and forgettable standard anime-proportionate style story and characters that not many will appreciate. It is underrated, good but not enough although it is a commercial success.
Thats not the reason... they lost the gold disc and the final copy of the data while making ff9 thats why 8 is in limbo cause they would have to do everything from scratch basically

While not my favorite FF game (the top 3 would IX, XIV and VII in that order), this one still enticed me with its emotional story, fantastic soundtrack, great characters and locations. It's only sad that today a lot of people still think Squall in an "emo kid" and don't pay that attention to his character development over the game.
I"m trying to understand what is going on too LOL I think it is because he grinded GF levels early on during the Dinosaur fight (and other Boss fights, which not give Exp points to characters... keep Bosses weak and raise GF's strong...) I think it's that... By the end of Disc 1 my Squall has 150 Damage, is this normal?

What a dark and different ff game this was, my fave! dark, surreal, futuristic, magic, decent bad guys, great last disc. Would make a great short project for se to do, if its not ACTION-RPG, if its action rpg then count me out SQUARE, I am a traditional FF Fan and want an RPG thanks!!!
I had the demo disc back in the day, but never had the actual game. I have a PS3 connected to a Sanyo HT30746 HD CRT, and have ordered the PS1 version of FF VIII. It’s due in Tuesday
The thing about this game, is that when you start getting lots of different spells and the ability to junction them to your stats, after that point, you end up spending a lot of time messing around in the menu, micro-managing all your stuff, and it bogs the game down significantly.
Because magic drawn from enemies can be junctioned to stats, increasing characters' power. It's always a good idea to have 100 of any useful magic, but it takes time.

have never known what to do against that spider boss, you can destroy it but you lose points, but you can make them up by fighting more etc, I know you can defeat it in one fight but then you dont get the ap so its a toss up, its actually a good idea cuz you can get a lot of abilities that take a while to get
Gravija (and other spells meant to reduce your health like Gravity or Demi) only take a percentage of your current health, but cannot outright kill you. That's why you can have those spells spammed at you with only 1 HP and never die...
Why'd you keep attacking the spider robot while it was recovering? Feel like you could've gotten in at least a couple more lots of AP if you let it get up straight away and then killed it again.
PSXfin is my choice of emulator for PS1 games easy to switch discs too... Memory Card of PSXFin will load up on other emulators, same file format... savestates not
Okay this is interesting, this playthrough is radically different from how I played the first 2 hours of the game, you could say that makes the characters "overpowered" or something, but there's no way in hell I would go through all that manual labor of navigating menus like that, too much fucking work... I would rather enjoy the game slowly without all the grind even if it means tougher battles
I've seen most reviews of the game saying things like "There's too much to be worried about, too much grinding" etc etc etc All of that is optional. You can play the game slowly, without grinding, like the devs planned, and still be able to win battles. The game seems to be nicely designed in that way (surprisingly)
Chrono Cross battle system still wins (although I would argue that FF8 presents a feeling of "adventure" a bit more... if only there was a way to bypass the School bits and other nonsense... Chrono Cross don't have as many moments that "stop your action" like that)
Because he's trying to find a very rare spell that Selphie can use called The End. I forget the mechanics of that fight exactly, but I nearly shat myself a couple of times that Diablos lunged at her, and almost screamed when he actually passed up The End the first time around just to very luckily get it again a few seconds later. That was a close call especially when, as far as I can tell he hadn't saved the game yet. FFVIII was before the days of auto and quick saves if my memory serves me correctly. Would have sucked to go and have to start over again from the beginning. And as for WHY he's trying to get The End to fire off, I can only assume because he wants to show it in his playthrough, perhaps for completionism, OCD purposes. But I haven't watched the rest of it yet.

Mesrine F. No problem. It goes even faster once you use "Haste" of course. If you Card Mod the Kiros Card, you get 3 Accelerators which gives you Auto Haste abilities. It's tempting whether to mod or not that card.
I need help. After you get off the boat in the beginning of the game and start to head off with Seifer and Zell, my game just stops at the loading screen. Is this a known bug or is there any possible fix for this?

Not always. They only have a 10% chance of actually doing it, otherwise they lower his HP to 1. Elixir always kills him instantly.

The problem with FFXIII was that not everyone got the story of the game. With XII I got it very quickly and I preferred the darker storyline.
