Hey there, Gamecamiller here and I just wanted to chime in for a bit here as I think there is a small segment of the audience who has seen this video that I just feel is missing a bit of the point of this project, to the point that a few people are even being a bit confrontational about it. This whole thing is a work in progress, a relatively new way to play your games from your 3DS system on a bigger screen. It's another option to play your games, just like having a capture card, snickerstream/NTR or yes, even dumping the games and playing it through emulation is. That said yeah, it's early and there's a few things to work on for sure, which I've talked about in this video, but there's a lot of potential to this project and at the end of the day it's a good thing to have options for all 3DS owners who want to play their games. One thing that I've found this year is that the homebrew/modding community is very active in trying to preserve these games and ways to enjoy them, and I feel it's really cool to have something like this, on option which was not possible even last year. That all said, there's nothing wrong about maybe not preferring this method at the moment, but I wouldn't be completely dismissive of others who wish to prefer this method. We are all here because we (hopefully) love the 3DS and we all want to enjoy these games and our systems for many years to come. Be kind, gamers.
btw, in the new citra build there is an option to use the 3DS as a controller, go to Emulation > Configure > Controls > and then select "Use Artic Controller when connected to Artic Base Server." You still cant see the game on your 3DS screen, but I'm sure this will make the setup more worthwhile.
Will I be able to use the Touchscreen? I need the Touchscreen for WarioWare and Tomodachi Life. If not, this will be not better than Snickerstream for me sadly.
Thank you for this! Jan 2nd, 2025 works. Downloaded Artic Base from the Universal Updater as suggested by one of the commenters. I have three PC monitors and one of my monitors is an XP-Pen(monitor with a pen) which I use for work. My PC has literally become a big 3DS kinda like the Wii U.
@@onyxsora When I first tried it, I would get an error when fiddled around with the 3DS shortly after I got it working. I soon realized that we cant use the 3ds normally while streamed, the PC becomes the sole controller (like say a mouse or screen pen for the bottom screen and your keyboard/connected controller for the buttons). Its been a few days, maybe you figured it out by now.
This is probably the most comfortable option I've had for streaming 3DS games to my computer. For a while now I've wanted to play those games on a larger screen, but also I'm noticing the wear my touchscreen has been getting (for some reason I lost the screen protector for it at one point). With this option, I can comfortably play games like yokai watch where the touch screen is part of the main control scheme without worrying about the condition of my 3ds. I assume as things improve (and I upgrade my PC down the line) performance issues won't be so much of an issue apart from loading time.
This doesn't seem that fantastical to me. I thought you'd be able to play on the actual 3DS and have it broadcasted to Citra/the PC like a capture card. It just looks like a way to skip getting/dumping a rom.
Thanks for this video. I thought O3ds won't be able to stream or would just stream powerpoint presentation, but holy crap it works! I just managed to stream Monster Hunter XX and recorded it through OBS. There were kind of random stutters that I am just okay with it. Good thing you can directly control it with your 3ds using Artic Controller.
This is kinda cool but if you already have a hacked 3DS you can easily dump the files from your 3DS to your computer along with save files. If I could use my 3DS as a controller and touchscreen it would be pretty useful
The point is mainly for people who want to go back and forth between tv and handheld. Kind of like it’s a switch. That’d be kind of tedious to do that every single time you want to go back and forth.
An option was added to use the 3DS as a controller, though I'd much rather use an Xbox controller vs the cramped 3DS controls. Also agree with other reply here, it's a pain to have to keep transferring save files back and forth. Much easier to run it all from one device
If you have a New 3DSXL the SD card is very innaccessible though. Im trying to work out how FTPD works so I never have to take off the back again. Even with Artic Base being as it is I think I honestly prefer not having to dump anything.
Um, I've said this before in other videos, but the concept of Artic Base for me just doesn't make much sense, because of many reasons: 1) You require a New 3DS 2) You are slowed down on loading screens and such because of the 3DS, and there can be other compatibility issues 3) You cannot use the 3DS while you are streaming, which if the game you are wanting to play is heavily based on touch controls, you will have a poor experience with a mouse unless your Windows device has a touchscreen 4) You are currently limited to only using Artic Base on a Windows emulator Because of all of this and more, I would say that it would be better to just 100% emulate the games you want to play on the actual emulator, rather than needing to use a 3DS in between, since you will get a way faster performance and possibly less issues, and the only way that I see Artic Base working for someone, is if they are lazy and don't want to bother with transferring saves between emulator and 3DS handheld, because Artic Base does use the save on the 3DS system so you don't have to bother with that anymore.
@@yosh688he said above it works with any 3DS. Also think of the Switch example, you don't use touch controls on that when it is docked? And using the same save files is a huge benefit. Further you can attach a portable touchscreen monitor to your PC if you want, or use an Android tablet as a second screen, and have that dedicated to the second 3DS screen. Maybe try it out yourself to see well it works. Loading delays are minimal, nothing to complain about. Also the PC is doing all of the heavy lifting with upscaling and enhancements, so it's not asking the 3DS to do anything other than send data over the network
I know for games like Tomodachi life that require a lot of use of the touch screen, I was able to use the mouse for bottom screen in the Citra app. Still though, Kid Icarus has a bit of a weird controller setup for 3DS so it may still be a bit of a pain. It's one of the games that I want to test out when I get a chance later.
I've just started using Arctic Base, and as of this comment the current app version is 1.2, and I was able to get Super Smash Bros. for 3DS to run! Well, at least the menus. I didn't actually try any of the game modes. Also of note, when I started up Smash Bros, it asked me if I wanted to opt in to Street Pass. Why, I'm not sure, maybe it was a result of something else. Anywho, this app is awesome. And here I was thinking I'd have to save up and shell out over 200 bucks of my hard earned chump change just to have a capture card installed on my 2DS XL. Silly Mark.
I want know something before I try this method in 7:04 the screen flashes blue is it gonna do that for every time I want to launch a game or only when I use Artic Base? I'm asking cuz I ran into a problem with another homebrew software that has the same effect

You can use Motion/Gyro controls by config it under Emulation -> Configure -> Controls -> Motion/Touch. @@MurdockMaddness yep, the DS games wont work via this method. Alpha sapphire should work fine, I actually did some testing with that game via this method the other day it seemed to be good.
This is really cool and all, but Im gonna be realistic. There is no point in using Artic Base and making the 3ds as a 'dock' for citric, when citric itself can run the games and at much smoother rates. Even if you just want to play on your '3ds saves' there is still no value in using Artic Base when you can use a game file saver tool to extract that save and open it in citra. Additionally, you can realistically only play normal 3ds games on Artic Base, whilst in Citra you can almost play any Nintendo game. I thought you could use the 3ds device as an actual controller, but this just seems useless. Cool project tho!
So, just in case I missed something, with this method I get to play my 3ds games on my computer instead of the console? As in, the only thing on the consoles screen is the arctic base interface?
Yep, that's the Hybrid screen option. Focuses on the top screen for the big window, and the two small screens are in standard 3DS view. There's a bunch of different options though if you don't want to use that view.
I used Citra on my mac before but playing ROMs would just be slow and glitchy fps for the most part. Since this would be running from official 3DS hardware, will there be no glitches and FPS slowdowns from Citra when using this method?
hey i have this all installed and have gotten it to work on my pc, however i get massive lag or my frames drops down to 5 or 6, and this isnt including the dreadful audio scratching ... is there a way to improve this?
@@KaijuClub Ah... I thought 3ds could use its architecture in this, so 3ds would be useful for something more than just sharing the save with the emulator.
@@gentepessoa2156 I mean it's just a theory, I'm not the one developing it, so anything is possible with eventual updates. At the moment the Wifi from the 3Ds is sending all the game data and save and such to the app, so that's why I figured the Multiplayer aspect would be handled via the emulator. There's only so much bandwidth that the Wifi from a 3DS could theoretically output and handle so to stream all the data and do online proper it'll will (most likely) need another way around it. But who knows, this app is super new, and is very much in active developmen,t so who knows what we will see in future updates. This is only the start.
my laptop says its not safe to open the citra? all though all the other videos ive watched no one gets the error. help me out here is it safe to use artic base citra or isnt it?
if you are downloading it from the website link (the github page) then yes, it should be safe. I just recently grabbed the updated files, they all checked out fine.
For me, it won't let my 3ds connect with citra. I always get a warning that an error has occurred, and I don't know why. Any ideas why that might be? I'm using a 3ds XL.
Ive tried this but its still slow. Im using my new nintendo 2ds xl. Still, this is an optional way if you dont want hardware mod like adding capture card on your device.
One way you can do is is by adding a source called "Game Capture" in the sources window of OBS studio. In the settings for the source, make sure the window dropdown is matching the Citra application. You can also capture audio by making sure the Capture Audio box in the "Game Capture" source is checked.

If you got a computer within the last 5 years or so, then you should be good to go at default settings. You will need a computer with a decent CPU and preferably a Nvidia graphics card. If you have a very low end computer or so, then you might not be able to run it. At least from what I have found. That said, if you ramp up the settings in the graphics menu then you might need a computer with a little more power, but if you're intended to play the games at the default settings, like I have in the video, then you shouldn't need a powerful computer at all. Below is the basic requirements for Citra for anyone who is curious: Citra requirements: Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit) or higher macOS Big Sur or higher Modern 64-bit desktop Linux CPU: x86-64 CPU Single Core Performance > 1,800 on Passmark Graphics hardware: OpenGL 4.3 Vulkan 1.1
It depends on how much upscaling and enhancements you want to do. I used to run Citra on a laptop with i7 11th gen integrated graphics at 2x resolution
There is a modified version of NTR that can capture over 60fps and using its own NTR cliënten you can even upscale te video out put but only if you have a powerful computer

One user in my discord found out his copy of tomodachi life wouldn't work but all the test of his games would. (Sort of like my situation with Super Smash Bros for 3DS).
I love this! Awesome info, thank you!
Glad you love it! 😀
Anyone know how to go about using custom textures with Artic Base?
I wanna play Planet Robobot and Smash 3DS flawlessly and I hope to god it works for me. Will it?
I'm going to try to revisit it in the future to see if it improves as well as try another emulator app too to see if there are any differences.
Can we play online with the Pretendo servers using this method of screen capture?
Did you find a way to do that?
@Gnawy Not yet, no. Sorry.
@ okay thanks for the reply
Yea, can
@@daixorbs how?
So, just in case I missed something, with this method I get to play my 3ds games on my computer instead of the console? As in, the only thing on the consoles screen is the arctic base interface?
This video helped me a lot
But when I play Pokemon Ultrasun, it is very, very, very slow. What did I forget or did wrong?
what's the setup for those 3 3DS screens? Is that Hybrid or separate windows?
Yep, that's the Hybrid screen option. Focuses on the top screen for the big window, and the two small screens are in standard 3DS view. There's a bunch of different options though if you don't want to use that view.
I can't get anything to move when I connect my xbox controller can you help me
How do you add Arctic base as a source?
I used Citra on my mac before but playing ROMs would just be slow and glitchy fps for the most part. Since this would be running from official 3DS hardware, will there be no glitches and FPS slowdowns from Citra when using this method?
hey i have this all installed and have gotten it to work on my pc, however i get massive lag or my frames drops down to 5 or 6, and this isnt including the dreadful audio scratching ... is there a way to improve this?
Do you believe that Multiplayer can be implemented in the future? Even if it's Local? It would be incredible!
it's very possible, though I'm betting users would have to be connected via the emulator app (PabloMK7's Fork or Citra, Lime 3DS etc.)
Did you opened it since ? I wanna try too but my windows defender says it's not safe ahaha
would i still be able to use the 3ds' built in controler when i use this?
At this time, you can't use the 3DS as a controller while doing this. That might change in a future update though.
How long does it take to show your screen in Citra?
so basically just loading the rom and save from 3ds to emulator. just emulating the games
its not connecting
For me, it won't let my 3ds connect with citra. I always get a warning that an error has occurred, and I don't know why. Any ideas why that might be? I'm using a 3ds XL.
Make sure Luma for your 3DS is updated to the latest release. If it isn't up to date, it can error
@@KaijuClub It is updated tho
@@KaijuClub My Luma is on v13.1.2, and I checked that it's in the same Wi-Fi. It still gives me the error code.
Ive tried this but its still slow. Im using my new nintendo 2ds xl. Still, this is an optional way if you dont want hardware mod like adding capture card on your device.
Does this work on "New 3DS"Models or just "3DS"?
I use a New 3DS XL and works fine for me
How do I insert this as a source in streamlabs obs. Please explain more!
One way you can do is is by adding a source called "Game Capture" in the sources window of OBS studio. In the settings for the source, make sure the window dropdown is matching the Citra application. You can also capture audio by making sure the Capture Audio box in the "Game Capture" source is checked.
@@KaijuClub Ok great! I figured it out and streamed 3DS content last night!!! Great video man. Artic base works really well when I have a strong internet connection.
@@huntersausageandredbeardsh2360 Awesome! I'm glad the video helped ya out
Is there anyway to keep Traffic low?
Very informative, thanks!
Thank you!
Works while playing mods like Samus Returns Randomizer??
Does pretendo work? If so I really need to know fast!
Do I have to input the hole code, the last 4 digits or the hole code with the dots? Because its saying connection error
u have to type the number exacly how it's written. for example, if it says 10.5.2.120:2453 that is EXACLY how u have to type it. with .: and everything
How can i start citra after I downloaded and extracted the zip file?
Edit: Nvm I found it.
And thanks for the great video
I see you got it all figured out. 😉Thanks for watching!
plz i need the answer ;----;
Do you need a powerful PC to run this method?
If you got a computer within the last 5 years or so, then you should be good to go at default settings. You will need a computer with a decent CPU and preferably a Nvidia graphics card. If you have a very low end computer or so, then you might not be able to run it. At least from what I have found. That said, if you ramp up the settings in the graphics menu then you might need a computer with a little more power, but if you're intended to play the games at the default settings, like I have in the video, then you shouldn't need a powerful computer at all.
Below is the basic requirements for Citra for anyone who is curious:
Citra requirements:
Operating system:
Windows 10 (64-bit) or higher
macOS Big Sur or higher
Modern 64-bit desktop Linux
CPU: x86-64 CPU Single Core Performance > 1,800 on Passmark
Graphics hardware:
OpenGL 4.3
Vulkan 1.1
It depends on how much upscaling and enhancements you want to do. I used to run Citra on a laptop with i7 11th gen integrated graphics at 2x resolution
This can be used on an old 2ds or 3ds????
bro the citra app in my windows 10 just dont run
How can i start Citra after i downoladed and extracted the zip file?
@@leolory double click on the "citra-qt" application inside the extracted folder
@@KaijuClub thanks
I did that and now, it is just endlessly loading with the top left corner saying Citra is not responding
Does it work with ctgp7 for mario kart 7?
Nope not yet. Maybe in the future. if you want to stream CTGP7 it's best to use the the built-in streaming option for CTGP7 and Snickerstream.
Citra wont start UPDATE CHECK REPLY
UPDATE: Its citra QT you want to run
There is a modified version of NTR that can capture over 60fps and using its own NTR cliënten you can even upscale te video out put but only if you have a powerful computer
whats it called?
so uhh... why not just use Citra at that point?
because.. ... . . ... . . . . . i don't know !
does your PC or does the 3ds run the games?
I think your PC emulates the game data as it's being streamed live by artic on the 3ds side
The 3DS Library is fantastic, and it has been a treat trying out this new way to stream 3DS games to PC. You should definitely give this a go!

Great video!
Thank you!
I allways get a error with communicating
If you get an error with communicating it may be because you have a game that is currently not compatible with the setup. One user in my discord found out his copy of tomodachi life wouldn't work but all the test of his games would. (Sort of like my situation with Super Smash Bros for 3DS). Sometimes a good reset (turning the 3ds off and then back on) can fix issues as well.
@@KaijuClub still not working
pls help
Is it the computer or the 3DS that plays the games?
It is split
it's the computer. the 3DS just acts as storage for the game and save files
umm... it is running as an amulation, and not as a connection to the 3ds directly. if this is the case, I have no need for my 3ds if its gonna run this way
Can it run in old 3ds?
Have you tried?
fua es medio raro jaja igual esta piola, pero me gustaria q se trasmitiera todo hasta el menú
Citra is not even responding for me.
try Lime3DS
Citra is dead.
Lime3DS supports ArticBase.
bro i love you, thanks a lot
Amazing
…arctic base doesn’t work with ds games even though I’m running it on a 3ds..?😔
