    The cost to develop was high? No, this technology has been around on electric golf carts for decades. There's nothing special going on with this machine.
    Now, if they were to have 100hp electric motors and armored/waterproof lithium ion cells in a RZR, that would be some development cost.

    These things are ideal for property owners who just want a reliable way to go out and do repair work around the place. Fence work and inspection. Also, very compatible with livestock. And you don't handle gasoline. If you're interested in eventually dealing with cancer, then keep handling and smelling gasoline and other chemicals like that. But I'm getting ready to retire and have about 650 acres to ride around on regularly and keep an eye on. I can't think of anything better than an EV UTV for the job. My brother has a gas powered one and it is great, but as far as I'm concerned, the EV version will handle the job fine, and not increase my chemical exposure in the process.

      It costs less in the long run then lead acid batteries if you count the cost of replacing the lead ones over time. 730 lbs (using info from replacement batteries available on amazon) $2,698.99 vs 90 lbs $5,700 lithium battery equivalent that has about 15% more power. Also dropping weight by 600lbs means more you can carry and probably longer distance when empty.

    Agree with @stevey, the cost to develop and build this was very little, actually it's probably cheaper to build than a gas model. If this unit would be upgraded to lithium batteries of the same size, the unit would be lighter, half the weight in batteries, and it would go twice as far. Or use half the amount of batteries and go the same distance.

  • @sroberts605

    Weird review - very specific usage implied, going miles off into the wilderness. That must be fairly unusual - the most common usage is surely on a farm, large or small, where quickly getting to regular chores with feed etc is the day-to-day usage, where the low maintenence, easy recharge integration (between chores) and relatively low mileage - and the relative quietness around livestock - make an EV ideal. Especially when farms by nature are ideal places to have solar and wind electricity provision. It's future-proof.

    • @teekay1785
      @teekay1785 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nathan Tankersley for the right DIY lithium battery the cost is similar to replacing lead acid batteries and weighs about 20 % of lead. I replaced my lifted club car ds with lift and 12 inch rims and 25 inch tires with 6Kwhr 14 cell pack of new lithium LMC chevy Bolt cells that weigh 68 lbs and my range on pavement is now about 40 miles as compared to 21 miles with new lead acid batteries! Cost me about $800. the cost is insane if you buy drop ins and they will be Lithium iron phosphate and weigh 50 % more than the LMC cells I used.
      Now to upgrade to a dual high torque and high speed motor around 8-10 hp.

    Twice the price and haven't similar range (70 miles vs 50 miles for the EV variant)
    Considering it can be plugged in at home and you don't need a gas can to fill up every so often, and no maintenance to ever worry about. And it lasting twice as long.
    It's a good deal. I just hope they switch to lithium ion batteries, or talk to a big battery supplier about the next gen that's coming out for better performance and no worries about range.

    There is a reason for 'polaris this and polaris that'. Polaris is an innovator in the industry and it is very relivant to the industry. Belt drive, running boards, first value model and on and on. I'm not a polaris guy but I own one because of the value it represented at the time. Can Am throws a V twin in an atv and some guys think it's the cat's ass! I have rebuilt, repaired and maintained many brands of atv over the years and there is nothing more hateful than a Can Am. I'm a proud Canadian but I wouldn't waste my hard earned money on an outlander.
    As far as the can am commander goes, it's junk! So what it goes fast, so what it's smooth on the whoops! It's quality is mediocre at best with a noisiest running gear I have ever heard in a sxs. It wasn't until the defender came along that can am had anything remotely decent to maintain.

      fwiw a sterling REx engine, would be better suited, since it could generate electricity from any heat source or temperature variation (ie by burning anytype of fuel or solar or even cold water stream at a campsite, to recharge its batteries)....
      but a multi-fuel fuel cell, will be the eventual REx for ATVs and UTVs....
