    I'll choose the Joule just because it's named after me 😂... By the way, you were one of my Inspirations to play violin 🎻 your videos about your progress at learning violin in adulthood gave me hope 💕

    I tested two Luma bows at a music store in St. Louis. Even though they were identical, the bows sounded different. The salesperson was surprised. The one I bought created a little more volume than the other one did.

    The Luma fits best with you for the time being, partly due to its lighter weight. But if you want to buy in a future-oriented way, the Joule is the best fit. This one is great for freestyling, fiddling, country, and playing so many more styles. With all three arches you hear a more direct approach to your old arch. It will depend on which genre you want to play in the future. Correct me if I’m wrong 😁💐

      You're right! Although I fell for the Luma at first, after recording this video I chose the Joule bow. 🙂

    I started with a Coda Diamond GX. Then I bought a joule. my favorite... I just purchased a chroma joule with the color shifting finish. I call them the family joules.

    Thank you for sharing this with your followers. I myself use the Coda Marquise on my violin and the Coda Diamond NX on my cello. Indeed, it is a very personal choice that no one can make for you. Do you already have an idea when you are going to make a video about how to sync your videos together? I look forward 😁💐

      Exactly! A bow can sound "meh" on one violin and gorgeous on the next one. And you mean how I make split screens, right?

    @MarijkeViolin My current violin bow looks exactly like your old one in this video! It was sent to me as a replacement for a bow that they lost and I have no idea what brand or model of bow it is. Could you please tell me what kind of bow your old one was? Also, I enjoyed the review and I'm hoping to upgrade to a Codabow in the future.

    Even though the Codebow Joule was designed for electric violins, can it be used effectively on acoustic violins?

  • @wckoek

    I tried to decide between the SX and Luma.
    I don't need a lot of volume, which of the two you find that is easier to play and which is less bright sounding?

    Nice video. A little surprised not to see the Diamond GX, although it's very pricey, being on the high end.

      Afterwards I wished I had that one on trial too. I heard from someone the GX isn't too different than then the SX. I might still try it in the future though.

    Hallo Marijke, vandaag kreeg ik een zichtzending..twee codabows..een musingc3, Glasser, Cabondix Prestige en Jonpaul Avanti.. En nu kiezen..och hemel.. Aangezien mijn oude strijkstok eigenlijk niet meer functioneerde, is alles een verbetering..I speel accoustisch, maar ook five string electric Zeta Classic..Dit wordt een lastige opgave..

      I think they are all very good, but very different too. I prefer the Joule for my violin, but the Diamond SX is cheaper and more generic.

    • @MarijkeViolin
      @MarijkeViolin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Funny, from my perspective I find it curious that you still play on a beginner's bow after all those years. It can be a decent bow ofcourse, but I noticed a big difference between my old bow and the more expensive upgrades. I can't look into people's wallets ofcourse, so I'll speak for myself: this has been my dream for years and I'm putting in time and effort to get better. I also have the money to invest in good tools for my passion, so that's what I'm doing. 🙂 (and I went with the Joule bow, btw)

      @@MarijkeViolin My family is against the fact that I want to buy a good bow(there are no problems with money), they just think that a good musician will even play on the violin for 100$, on which I played for many years...
      But I don't think so. This year I bought a violin for 1400€ and a bow for 120€, I felt a big difference between my new and old violin. It seemed like the violin was playing instead of me❤️

    How do carbon bows feel compared to wooden ones ?

    • @MarijkeViolin
      @MarijkeViolin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I only had a wooden bow in my first three months of playing. I didn't really like it (the quality was meh) so I bought a carbon fiber bow and I was very pleased with it straight away and haven't played a wooden one again. So I can't really compare it.

      @@MarijkeViolin Ok thank you ! I'm thinking of getting a new bow, i have 2 wooden bows right now but i'm not satisfied with either one, so i'm not sure about getting a new bow, i never played with carbon bows before so i can't really say but i think i'd like to stick to wooden ones, maybe budget wise carbon bows would be better, i don't really know much on the subject.
      Also, did you contact a luthier or a bow maker to get to try these bows ?

    • @MarijkeViolin
      @MarijkeViolin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carbon bows are very study and a good one is much cheaper than a wooden one of the same quality. And yes, I contacted a luthier who also sells various brands of carbon fiber bows.
