How Pareto's Principle can make you BETTER at CLIMBING

  • Pareto's Principle or 80-20 Rule is a powerful tool and productivity hack that can improve your efficiency and effectiveness in many areas of life, including rock climbing! There are so many ways to train for climbing and not enough time in the average person's day to fit them all in. Therefore, we must be selective in choosing only those training activities that will be the most productive and have the greatest impact on our climbing performance. This is where the Pareto Principle comes in. 80% of our climbing improvements come from just the top 20% of our most effective training and workouts. Activities like working on technique, hangboarding, and dialing in your nutrition will have the most productive impact on your climbing performance. The bulk of your climbing training should be focused on these activities.
    Put the Pareto Principle to use in your own climbing training and other areas of your life and I know you will see rapid improvements in productivity and performance.

    What about spray walls or hard bouldering?

      Definitely a super efficient way to get strong if you use them properly! Depends on your climbing goals where you are at in your climbing career. As a newer climber, jumping on a Moonboard or something similar may be injurious, but as a more advanced climber it’s a great way to improve power and contact strength. Just make sure you aren’t sacrificing good technique!
