Odesa is too Dangerous? 🇺🇦

- After a few busy months in Kyiv, we decided to go visit the sea-side town of Odesa one last time this year before it got too cold. We invited some Ukrainian friends, but everyone said not to go now as Russia was actively bombing the region, trying to knock out the grain exports. They were right, the city got hit within minutes of us arriving at 6:30am. But still, life goes on as normal, and we made the most of it.

So jealous! Odessa is one city I really want to see. All my time with 28 brigade, “ The Odessa Mafia”.
I’m with them in Donbas tomorrow. I show them your video!
slava ukraini heryom slava🙌
I'll show you around Odesa anytime mate, whenever you're free Brando Commando!
❤Thoughts are always with you guys.💛💙
@@JohnnyFD ❤"Brando Commando"❤😂
Odessa residents are waiting for Russian liberation. Lenin, under the influence of painkillers, made mistakes and now the Russians of Odessa, Nikolaev, Kharkov found themselves under occupation.
Odessa is beautiful. I visited it two times before the war, when it was a 90 minute flight from Warsaw. Sadly I can’t really visit it now, as the 22h bus or train travel scares me, especially with my busted back. I hope we get normality and air travel in Ukraine back again so people can once again visit the beautiful city
Two times? Don't you mean twice?
fly to moldova and take 3 hour bus.
Thank you Johnny for bringing us along on the journey. Odesa is such a beautiful city. The spirit of the people is amazing, in spite of what is going on. Дякую, Джонні.
My Mother was in Odessa 1976, first from Helsinki to Leningrad by bus and then by aeroflot to Odessa. Leningrad=St.petersburg, aeroflot=soviet flight Carrier.
Looks like a really nice place to visit, u would not believe there is a war in that country. Its on my list of places to visit now.
They are doing great at trying to live as normally as possible despite the terrorists in the neighbouring country. Good on them. Blitz spirit 🇺🇦💛💙
It's amazing how in much of the country Ukrainians are able to live more or less normal lives and stores, restaurants and cafes are functioning normally. This is a tribute to the Ukrainian military, which has been able to keep the Russian aggressors from advancing beyond southeastern Ukraine, and early in the war pushed the invaders out of other parts of the country, and also has been shooting down most Russian missiles and drones. And also a tribute to the hard work, perseverance and courage of Ukrainian civilians. Slava Ukraini!
Russians are not agressors Ukrainian Neo Nazis invaded Russia. Your brainwashed Yuliya in Eurasia 🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺⛪⛪

Glad to see you in my hometown! Enjoy the city!
I visited Odessa in 2018 and was literally blown away by its charm and natural beauty. One of the most underrated places in my opinion. I only got spending 3 days over there and felt sad when I boarded the train back to Kiev!
Glad to see you give Odessa a second chance. Walk to the bottom of deribosivskaya, then to Park Shevchenka. There you will find the Zolotor heath Track that runs for 7 kilometers along the ocean. It has old soviet workout stations every kilometer. The health track ends at Arkadia. takes about 4 hours. Best attraction in Odessa besides the beauties.
Road of health
Agreed.
Its reassurng to see there is some level in normailty of life in some areas in Ukraine . Slava Ukraini from Australia 💙💛
Yes😊. I love seeing that. A big FU to Ruzzia.
❤❤
Great video Johnny!❤ So nice to see the different parts of Ukraine! Glory to Ukraine. 💛💙
Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Regarding the Internet. As far as I know, the reason for the fairly good and cheap Internet in Ukraine lies in the fact that it appeared later than in old Europe and networks were already being laid using newer technologies, which is why the speed is normal, plus there are many providers in Ukraine and a lot of competition between them, which influences on the price. In Europe, when the Internet appeared, it was earlier and behind older technologies, and not everyone wants to invest money again in order to completely change the entire network and equipment to new ones.
Yes you're correct. American Telecom companies are greedy and don't want to invest in faster speeds because they have a monopoly anyways.
@@JohnnyFDOh they do (in America), it’s just mostly over wireless as opposed to traditional landlines, and they can still get away with charging two arms and a dick for it thanks to said monopolies…
The architecture & culture seems amazing
Always fun traveling with you bro!
You as well Wanderlust!
Odesa is a beautiful city, but the mentality of people is similar to Detroit or Philadelphia in the USA 😪
A lot of alcoholicts, strange people, addicts and so on... And especially the city of the main mafia in our country... When in other cities there aren't mafies yet, Odesa ruled by mafian people...
One of the worst cities in Ukraine unfortunately (telling as a ukrainian)
I totally agree with you. It always triggers me when I see foreigners that only wanna visit Odesa and don't care about more beautiful in any possible way cities as Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipro and so on. Telling as ukrainian too.
Lviv is awesome
@@deltasalz8138 I would recommend to visit Kharkiv also. Probably #1 in Ukraine to live in
I am guessing that a port city would collect more undesirables than somewhere further in.
All cities have mafia in Ukraine. Lviv's Sadovyy mafia, Rivne's amber mafia... etc.
Nice to see youre videos from different places in Ukraine..Ty Johnny
Overnight trains are what they are but that one looked pretty comfortable and nice! Thanks for sharing love travel content
johnny smacks when he eats! throat punch city
I miss Odesa so much 🥹 Thank you for showing me hometown ❤️

Hell yeah. Clean up the corruption and scammers!!
Beautiful! A must see ! Thank you❤
Your editing and story telling has gotten a lot better...
Thanks!!
Nice to see you finally in Odessa Johnny! Go to Deribasovskaja Ulitsa
The graffiti and music at the end of this video are straight-up mind-blowing.
Kyivs main station has great architecture. Odessa seems interesting. 🇺🇦🌻🙏🕯🍺
How is your apartment in Charkiv doing?
What's the song called that comes on when you are working out at around 33 minutes ?
I think Ukrainian electro folk .Go- A,The Doox,Folknery,Dakha Brakha,Luyku for example.
Johnny... you left the toilet seat UP!!!!
🎉 they probably always does🎉...JJ...
Men usually do and that is very annoying for women.
Nobody cares.

Incredible prices👍❤
In Portland Oregon the streets used to be crowded like this than after Covid it went to the addicts and nobody’s come back downtown, it reminds me of a Sunday on a Tuesday afternoon minus all the addicts, the workers still haven’t returned and many buildings are vacant , I still saw some homeless but kinda hide away, Odessa looks so inviting and how my city used to look like and feel in the summertimes, I hope it’s able to get back to it, because my youngest son is investing into the restaurant business, he already bakes and sells at a coffee shop downtown and him and the owners son will go in together, so he obviously sees a future still here.
Welcome in Odesa! And sorry if u see bad people in our city(
Yes, but its authentic. What city doesnt have those.😊
Beautiful country
Nice looking place. I hope to visit there in February. I didn't catch the name of the restaurant you were in, the one with all the lamps hanging from the ceiling. I'd like to visit it, when I go there.
Хаджибей. кримсько-татарський ресторан
Khadjibey. The old name of Odesa.
@@alexost5107 : Thank you, I'll note it in my guide book.
Johnny FD and Nick livin large in Odessa baby! LOL
Thank you! I’ve been wanting to see Odessa ❤
this is my hometown, i love it :))
That bar sounds like the Saigon bars during the Vietnam War.
Odesa is my hometown welcome 🤗
I am born and raised in Odesa. That is how mafia used to say Odesa mama. I believe in somewhat 1800ish years.
I'm pretty sure I know the guy who did the painted ceramic plates on the wall of the Crimean Tatar restaurant...
Please post as a reply the link to the Airbnb you stayed at? I am interested. Thanks!
@johnnyfd1..... That's the Airbnb host's name? Or ... ?

@40:37 Rewatching the food p*rn part.🤤Was thinking that the delicious looking dumplings look like giant 小籠包 and then you took the words right out of my mouth! If they are juicy inside, must be really similar! Were the wrappers similar in texture?
no spit guard on the buffet? did I see that right?
Johnny you had me cracking up with the Verizon comment btw i'm getting a 3.94 upload right now 😂

Dear Johnny sir!
I want to have meeting with you❤
Johnny, putting together a shopping list for when I come visit Ukraine in the Spring. So far, for you, I have Trader Joes bucket of peanut butter cups, and a couple rolls of HD Aluminum foil. Anything else I should add to the list for ya?
Cantiludan: There are restrictions on bringing food into the EU. You might be better checking first, before bringing food items.
@@StevenKeery This mainly applies to Meat, Dairy, Fish, Eggs, fruit and Veg. Not Candy in an unopened commercial package
Just the bucket of Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cups from Trader Joes is enough, maybe their Harvest Blend Herbal Tea as well. I can survive without strong foil. =)
Those few seconds of thinking your dying lasts forever❣😴🫨🫂
That breakfast looks bomb
Thanks for the video. I hope you are safe after today’s attack of you are still in the city
I just left that day before the big attacks. I barely missed it. =(
Johnny love your vedio of oddessa mama with your friend nick please post more vedios of oddessa mama again I give u like 👍

Very cool mall!. Great videos Johnnie!
Glad you enjoyed it!
36:20 - irony.
Hopefully Ukraine will be less corrupt than America. They are being, and will be, an inspirational role model for the world💪🇺🇦=💪🌐🕊️
they were the most corrupt state in europe the last years (according to corruption perceptions index), so hopefully it changes soon..
Lol, forget it.
hate to break it to you but it rates as one of the most corrupt countries on the planet
doesn't mean the people aren't lovely though, and all former soviet countries have huge corruption problems so it's not exactly surprising
01:22 Trains still run from Kiev to Luhansk and Donetsk???
And Crimea too!
Will run.
Holy breakfast buffet!. Nice Crib!. You need to inflate your backpack Johnnie(LOL)! Enjoy!
Ukraine, sigh... I love you.
I DIDNT KNOW THAT MONGOLS SPEAK OF DANGER.
So if the war was over, would you just jump on a flight to Odessa rather than the train?
There was a flight to Odessa and Lviv.
@@yuliiar9067 Before the war, yes. But all airspace is closed now. Yeah I wanted to know if it is easier to fly than take a train. The flight probably costs a little more but much more convenient I am thinking….
@@mikeses4392 ofcorse airspace is closed, before the war price was aprox 30-35 US dollars 1hour, train aprox 12-15dollars 9hours, buss- 7hours, aprox 20dollars.
Odesa is the nice city just avoid a girls /restaurant spam
Good luck Johny !
Great video Johnny.. thank you

Yes, great location. =)
yes,i stay there in the past, one door on the right from yours@@JohnnyFD
Odesa mama is amazing 😍!!!
I was there last summer 10/10.
Been to Odesa probably 10 or 12 times, last time was October 2023, beautiful city, always memorable. For all the Russian bots here, everyone hates Russia in Odesa. By the way just so everyone knows Odessa with 2 s's is the Russian way of spelling it. Ukrainians now changed it to the Ukrainian spelling which is with one s.
To be fair, the vast majority of Ukrainians didn't hate Russia until Feb 24th, 2022. But yes, I agree, now everyone hates Russia, especially those who live and have to suffer under Russia's attacks in Odesa.
@@JohnnyFD I guess it depends who you ask, I have several friends in Odesa for over a decade, and they hated Putin and Russia prior to the invasion.
Johnny love the video keep up the good work. Slava Ukraine thanks for the funny content
The Carpathian mountains?
He Johhyn enjoy 😂😂😂😂😂
Who cares 😂😂😂😂? I don’t know why people panick when toilet seat is up 😂😂😂😂
Sad to see those stickers on people's cars in the vain hope that their children wont get shot to death if they are forced to drive though a war zone. Russian NaZis aren't going to look at that...
So what happened finally at the scam bar , did you have to pay what their tarriff said or did you get a reduced price ? I'm asking because I'm pretty sure the cops said pay what their tarriff/menu says , it happens all the time here in Greece the menu's fine print is priced for 100 grams not a full plate of food ....Thumb Up # 790 ...Zulu
